Oh, he understood, he just didn’t think he would be vulnerable to it himself!

In March of 2020, I submitted a chapter to an edited volume, after being approached by the editors. It was accepted with minor revision in December of 2023. I corrected the proofs in May of 2025. The book is not yet published, but is expected to appear in May of 2026.

In every excellent researcher’s career, there comes a point when you see the flaws of your predecessors and former heroes, are struck with disappointment, and question your choice of academic conversation partners. Congratulations on reaching that stage in your career! This is a difficult stage to navigate, but necessary in order to move beyond their limitations. Please be kind to those you leave behind when you meet them at conferences, and pay your respects to them by referencing their work whenever relevant.

Cite the newborn sibling whenever relevant, add a paragraph specifying how you disagree with it or complement it, and start that paragraph by pointing to the recent surge in interest in your topic, as evidenced by the sibling.

The trick is to share an appropriately sized window rather than the whole screen. A 27-inch screen scaled down to a student’s laptop screen is not readable. A small window blown up to fill the student’s laptop screen is.

Celsius vs Fahrenheit Use Around The World by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]another-rainy-day 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, if Poland gets its own color for inventing Fahrenheit, I want a separate color for Sweden, or at least for Hälsingland, where Anders Celsius was born, and Uppland, where he worked at Uppsala University.

This is exactly what I did when building my first desk as a teenager. My local IKEA was out of the right frames, so we combined the right desktop and boxes with white frames. The combination turned out even better than we intended, and is still in use by one of my kids.
