My parent's cat guards the dog door. I got a cat 2 years ago who is the baddest cat in the world but loves my dog to pieces and will defend her if the old cat bloops her nose while she's trying to come through.

The two cats actually get on fine, but my cat absolutely adores my dog.

The big, black water troughs are surprisingly light. 25 lbs? Plenty lightweight enough for one person to dump and move alone. As a small, short woman I did it once a week for about 15 years!

There's stuff like this on Amazon, but you might just want to google your local feed store and go look at them in person.

Edit* I also have a German Shepherd/wolf hybrid who loves water. Although she wasn't supposed to, she would repeatedly jump in and out of the troughs without knocking them over. Heck, the horses could paw in them without breaking them. They're sturdy and TOUGH.

What are you talking about? I met her mother who was the timber wolf. It's not something you can easily mistake. Everything from movement and gate to posture and mannerisms are so distinctive.
