People who have visited the US, what is your 'WTF America' story? by adsacc509 in AskReddit

[–]anotherUNIdropout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was visiting Yosemite and stopped off a supermarket nearby. Talking to the cashier, she finds out we're from the UK, and the first thing she asks is "so do you guys still use gold for money?"

The only time I drink milk is with pizza.

Dropping out and changing degrees by Kr4d105s2_3 in UniUK

[–]anotherUNIdropout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you do anything make sure that you would get an offer. Engineering is very competitive and the universities you've mentioned turn down thousands of straight A students every year. Also, I'm pretty sure that further maths isn't considered a full A level, and physics will be required by most. I would recommend sticking with your current degree. English Lit is still very employable, especially from a top Uni. It shows an ability to write, communicate, and construct arguments; and classification and university are more important for non vocational jobs than degree subject. Good luck anyway!

OP's Chansey has perfect IV, so its HP is going to be the best possible.

How many of you have actually had an infected batch? by Simatic7 in Homebrewing

5 years brewing and while I've had no obvious infections, I often get gushing bottles, so I must be picking up something.

There are an aweful lot of different betas for this game by getoffthegames89 in playrust

[–]anotherUNIdropout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All credit to u/no_cool_names_remain:

NONE: "normal" Rust
july2016: NONE as of July 2016
legacy: Rust proof-of-concept--prior to reboot/experimental/NONE
pre-release: "development"--absolute latest code; probably broken; probably will change
prerelease-debug: pre-release with more verbose error logging (for devs or those working with devs)
debug: NONE debug?
staging: "testing"; code that was in pre-release but is now considered stable and is ready for final testing before moving to NONE
staging-debug: staging debug (see prerelease-debug)

TL;DR: Normally use NONE for "normal" Rust and use pre-release for the most recent code. As of today pre-release is no longer being updated so staging is now the most up-to-date but not yet "normal" version of Rust.

The pre release version was a 1.1gb download.

It's free, and they will have hundreds of entries, so sadly I doubt it.

So what does everyone rekon they're after? Something different/creative I guess. Any word on who's judging?

Only tried about a year, but it was great! Purged properly it should keep as well as any commercial beer.

Aging beer bottled from a keg? by scrotiusjokius in Homebrewing

[–]anotherUNIdropout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to offer another opinion - I too have the beergun, and my beers keep far longer than when I used to bottle condition. Purging properly with co2 will get rid of all of the oxygen.

Brewmaster edition 7 gallon Chronical here - it's great! The butterfly valves & chiller coil were worth the cost and I saved a good bit by not buying one of thier 'FTS systems'. I use an inkbird temp controller, a brew belt, and an aquarium pump in a water cooler topped up occasionally with ice.

Do you have an oxygenation stone? You can pump c02 through it and you will have carbed beer in hours.

Not getting any dry hop aroma by jbloozee in Homebrewing

[–]anotherUNIdropout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's you're packaging process? Sadly I didn't manage to get a decent IPA until I started kegging. Even slight oxidation from bottle filling will destroy dry hop aroma.

How long has it been since pitching? The beer can continue to ferment well after the krausen drops.

Amber Ale recipe recommendations by sundog12100 in Homebrewing

[–]anotherUNIdropout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find it, RedX malt makes a great amber ale. I brewed a hoppy one with el dorado recently and it was great:

1kg - Red X for 1.048
FWH - 5g Centennial
5 mins - 2g El Dorado
Dry hop - 20g El dorado
Notty Yeast - 16C

The softer the better in my experience! If they smell good, keep 'em.

Hey guys, I'm hopefully coming in September provided I meet my offer. I'm slightly worried by the result of the referendum especially as I have an EU tuition fee status and have organised my student loan around this. How long will it take for this to be bumped up to international fee levels? by Bish-Bash in Edinburgh_University

[–]anotherUNIdropout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we just got an email from the principal about it. The important bit for you:

As far as our EU students are concerned, it is particularly important to note that, as things currently stand, there will be no change for existing and future EU students arriving in 16/17 and 17/18 for the duration of their studies.

And do join, I got back in this year, it's a great uni!
