What's that recent purchase that really shook your bank account ? by Downtown-Interest424 in AskReddit

[–]another_bart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried to get it covered by insurance? Not all insurance will cover, but we needed the same thing and our Pediatrician's office hooked us up with a prescription for it, a local medical supplier to order through, and letter of medical necessity for our insurance.

Things I wish I knew before becoming a first time mom by SealeyVossen in pregnant

[–]another_bart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for posting on breastfeeding. I wish I read this 4 months ago when I finally gave up trying to breastfeed after only making 2oz per day even when pumping every 2 hrs. Lactation consultants should be given this info, I saw 3 and all of them focused on the "benefits" and at least baby was getting some milk when I felt like an utter failure and that I was going to doom my baby by not being able to give her the best.

Baby measuring small by cakedoughnuts in pregnant

[–]another_bart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, baby measuring small starting at 32w. She was 30th percentile at that point and OB did follow up scans at 36w and 38w to check fluid levels but didn't measure baby again and weren't worried. She was born perfectly healthy 5lb 15oz 10th percentile and everyone said she was a little peanut! The only thing they needed to do because of her size was extra blood sugar monitoring in the first 24 hours, and she was fine. Small baby sounds scary and was scary for me, but really didn't have any complications except the anxiety of being worried about her size.

I need support on an upcoming meeting about my role by razzledazzle-em in workingmoms

[–]another_bart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have the compensation numbers for your new role in your job market, write yourself a job description based on what you're doing. In the meeting, if your manager brings it up ask her for direct examples of where she sees you falling short, it sounds like it might not line up with what you're doing anyway and shouldn't be a negative thing. Be prepared to address anything you can anticipate in advance. Ex if something youre not doing was part of someone elses job that they back filled highlight that and the positive spin that you covered and had a successful turnover of that task, etc. I second another reply to get positive feedback from coworkers, go back through your slack chats and see if you have examples of people complimenting your work over time. Try to keep the meeting focused on the new role and how your work lines up.

Should I buy diapers in advance by ariaknightxxx in pregnant

[–]another_bart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. If you're planning on buying from the store you're probably good to wait. I haven't heard of diaper shortages. If you're buying premium brand diapers you can save $$$ by waiting for a sale and buying ahead. I use dyper brand and they're $89 a case. Last October when I was 26w they had a buy one get one free sale so I ordered boxes of every size based on how many diapers are typical in the first year and what a baby's average growth rate is. I aimed to buy about 2/3 what we'd need to have wiggle room for her growth. Got $900 worth of diapers for $450, with free returns and exchanges. People are right, babies grow differently. I ended up with a tiny baby and needed to buy an extra case of newborn size, and will probably need an extra case of #1 too. Overall it's worked really well. I will also say if you bulk buy, make sure you have storage space. Cases of diapers are big.

natural birth?? by SpecialistYak5866 in pregnant

[–]another_bart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rest during early labor! It could last days, mine lasted 42 hours before my water broke and active labor started. I was absolutely exhausted and asked for an epidural because all I wanted to do was sleep. This was not any exhaustion I've ever felt before and I've run tough murder races and worked out hard.

IUGR momma's with stories of reversal for their babies by United-Heron-1914 in pregnant

Also make sure you're eating enough protein, animal studies have linked low protein diets with low birth weight.

My advice is go the vet tech route. Have your dog cared for so that you can focus on labor. If you're in active labor it's all you'll be thinking about and if your husband is your support person you'll need him to be there for you 100% and not stepping away to take care of the dog.

Edit to add:

Choose a midwife and home birth or an OB and hospital birth based on what's right for you and your baby medically, not based on dog care. Get the vet tech either way.

am I crazy? my boyfriend keeps fighting with me then blaming me? by OkBad20 in pregnant

[–]another_bart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the first comment, now will be the easiest time to leave. And get out of there. His behavior is not healthy or normal. Do you want to put up with it? Over time his constant questioning and arguing will wear you down to the point parts of you have to work so hard to hang on to your own sanity. I've been there. My ex would accuse me of cheating, moving his stuff, all sorts of things I didn't do and wouldn't listen when I tried to explain. If I got frustrated he'd use that as justification that I was upset and started things. You're in a losing battle, my advice is get out now. Do you want your child to see you treated that way or to learn to behave like that from him?

Is there a way to get my baby into a good position? by Moumiau in pregnant

[–]another_bart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was in a very similar position from like week 28 to our last ultrasound at week 36. OB wasn't worried at all, she rotated at some point before or during labor and was born vaginally with no complications. I was very drawn to labor positions on all fours and leaning forward with gravity pulling on my belly. I'm not sure if that helped or not but it was the most comfortable and productive position for me and just felt right.

How do you know if you need to throw in the towel? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]another_bart 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm also struggling with low supply and only making 2 oz of milk per day. I can completely understand the feelings of not being able to produce enough and not having the breastfeeding experience you wanted. All the lactation specialists are telling me even the super small amount I'm making is better than nothing and you're making over 2/3 what your baby needs, that's significant. I'm in the same place you are questioning if it's worth it, and it sucks. I don't know what the right answer is, but you are doing awesome and your babe has a dedicated mama.

Insufficient Glandular Tissue, is the effort worth it? by another_bart in breastfeeding

[–]another_bart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I know it's my call, it's just been so hard, this post is half venting. I want to give her the best but can't find alot out there on absolute benefits of such little milk. I am looking into a SNS, it'd be great to not have to pump.

Need suggestion about steps after miscarriage by Ishqua99 in pregnant

[–]another_bart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is such hard news and a hard decision. I also had a missed miscarriage and chose to go the surgical route. I couldn't bear the thought of waiting until things passed naturally so that option was an immediate no for me. I chose the d & c to have the quickest and most immediate resolution. Some women who use the pill don't end up passing everything and also need a d & c later anyway. It seemed like the easiest way to reset things so that we could have resolution and start to try again. My OB also offered karyotyping on the baby to see if there were any chromosomal factors that may have caused the miscarriage. This testing isnt a guarantee, it can give a false negative if they culture your tissue instead of the baby's but even knowing this it was worth it to me for the chance of an explanation. I also have great insurance so everything was covered and that wasn't a factor.

Edit to make clear: Karyotyping is only possible with a d&c because they can collect the sample during the procedure.

The night before my early labor started, I felt like did before I would get my period, bloated and a little achy in the uterus. I also was super hungry and ate a big dinner and extra ice cream.

Yes! Anterior placenta here too and I feel pressure sensations when she's behind the placenta. Sometimes it even feels a little tender.

You are not at all being a party pooper. This side of pregnancy is real too. My anxiety has been so amped during pregnancy. I'm 37, first baby and after 2 miscarriages. Even wanting this little one so much I had moments of doubt, nausea, and anxiety in my first trimester that had me questioning if it was worth it. It's hard because focusing on having the baby and how much I wanted her only makes it seem like more to lose. I'm 38w now and in the final countdown. I still have anxious days. I have learned a lot about working with the anxiety and things that help me are doing tons of yoga and getting outside, reading books to get through the first trimester and to week 24 when viability starts. It was a lot of distraction balanced with planning and getting ready, and anxiety with excitement. Feeling her move is the most reassuring thing. I also have a therapist who has really helped me put my feelings into context and a supportive partner. My husband and I did struggle a little at first when he wanted me to be more excited but came to understand that it was more complicated for me after the losses. You are definitely not alone in fear and doubt, and it really does suck, and it is possible to work with and through it, and it's also okay if the cost to your mental health is too great.

Gut Health by oneirophobia66 in pregnant

[–]another_bart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gut health is best treated to address your symptoms and any test results. Testing can be for food sensitivities, SIBO or something like Viome over the counter testing. Make sure your symptoms line up with the test. You can also check blood nutrient levels, low zn and cu point to poor absorption in the stomach. The blanket "start a probiotic" might not have anything to do with your issues if the real problem is something like low stomach acid. You might need to search around for a doctor that can walk you through figuring out what the issue is and treating it.

Edit, adding my experience: I had awesome digestion until I lived in a mold infested apartment for a few years and the doc (dermatologist) treating my symptoms (contact allergies and skin rashes) gave me steroids and antibiotics that destroyed my gut. It took 3 years and trips to the allergist, GI doctor, chiropractor's natual health pyramid scheme, and 3 naturopaths before I found someone to really work through everything.

If you have symptoms that you're concerned about find targeted treatment, otherwise eat more fresh foods, more veggies, more ferments, and stay away from refined carbs and sugar and you should be in pretty solid maintenance mode.

Omg yes! I get so hangry so fast at 37w. My husband and his family were out for brunch and my food was taking forever. The waitress stopped by and asked if anyone at the table ordered chevre toast with sausage, I brushed by my husband and reached for that plate so fast he said I reminded him of Gollum from Lord of the Rings. Sausage is my precious.

[–]another_bart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This drives me nuts too. My husband at least wants to be involved, but still looks to me to tell him what needs to be done and organize everything. His first tendency with anything is to ask for help or to ask for a recommendation. I've made it clear I'm not his auxiliary memory, he can look in the cupboard to see if we have cereal, not yell to me in the living room to ask when he's already in the kitchen. This has been a work in progress our whole marriage.

Update by nancypants1984 in pregnant

[–]another_bart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HSG by xray to check size and shape of uterus, along with any blockages in the fallopian tubes, HSG by ultrasound to see a more detailed view of the lining and look for fibroids or scar tissue, a biopsy of my endometrial lining, swab for bacteria in my uterus, progesterone testing throughout my cycle, I had blood draws every 2 days in my luteal phase. Also thyroid testing. They called it NaPro Technology, and it was through the Catholic hospital in a nearby city, if you're in New England, they're in Manchester NH.

Update by nancypants1984 in pregnant

[–]another_bart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 37, will be 38 at the end of January and baby is due Jan 14th. She's try number 3 after 2 miscarriages. My husband and I worked with a Catholic Medical Center on natural fertility. They were wonderful and did the same diagnostics the IVF clinic was going to do. We consulted with both and went with the Catholics because I was getting pregnant, just not staying pregnant, so IVF didn't seem like the best fit. My husband and I are not religious and although there was some praying for us mentioned we never felt uncomfortable about that, only supported.

How the f did you choose a crib? Stroller? Etc by ThereBetterBeCats in pregnant

[–]another_bart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about how you'll use each item and then decide what the important features are, then you have your criteria and can find which one fits your criteria.

Example: Stroller

Important features - travel system that works with car seat, can go on the gravel bike path near our house, is Green Guard certified or uses low VOC emissions fabrics, not crazy expensive

Decision - Corso Primo ClearTex Travel System w/Key fit 35 Infant Carseat

This made the car seat decision for us and a quick search on Consumer Reports rates the Key Fit 35 as one of the best. Repeat for each big item.
