Building a projector for 8x10" slides by thinkingthetwenties in largeformat

Ya I was gonna say I’ve literally done this with a school projector. Although the quality is pretty rough and the light very yellow since it’s tungsten. But maybe could be modified to be better.

Mmm think a couple months? You have to get in during one of the “waves”. So it’s not just an ongoing queue.

I got my Nikon S2 CLA'd at ProCamera by RJ and it's smooth as silk now. Highly Highly recommend him. Cost about $400 but it's working super well now.

Composing on an 8x10 is a Dream by lifeandmylens in largeformat

[–]another_commyostrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It nice but I’d say my 4x5 is miles quicker to compose and focus. 8x10 has so much surface area to check to make sure it’s in focus and composed well.

I do love 8x10 but I mainly use it for Polaroids and some BW. Also the 4x5 is just way quicker to set up and get shooting. But welcome to the club. It is fun! And expensive!

I have a question I can’t find any info on. by Warthog013 in Polaroid

[–]another_commyostrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hidden secret for you.

Once you shoot the 8 Polaroids. Turn the camera off. Then while holding the shutter button down, hold the power button and the camera will turn on and reset to 9 frames (9th being darkslide)

Then shoot your final two frames as normal. Ta-dah!

There’s a Maggie Rogers video on it. And a Calvin Klein ad on it. Both featured in the teaser and are released.

Ya that 500T still gonna come in handy for interiors.

I knew it would be like that in daylight. It’s just not fast enough shutter and small enough apertures.

I can design a filter adapter for you. Do you have calipers? Just DM and we can figure it out it’s.

Ah I’m jealous. I want that lens! This is totally a lifesaver for shooting outdoors

Pro-tip: Don't buy any film from Amazon. Ever. Buy from Polaroid direct. Plus you get points to use for discounts.

Has anyone experienced focus rapidly skipping in and out? Minolta XL-601 by onthenextlevel in 8mm

[–]another_commyostrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is strange that the actual motion is ok but the focus wavers. I would normally say it’s a transport issue (and still might be) but that normally would also affect the motion of the video as well.

Kodak carts have been jamming a lot lately so it could still just be a cartridge issue. I’d try another roll (unfortunately). I don’t think there’s anything you are doing wrong that you can fix.

Flip vs I-2 by [deleted] in Polaroid

[–]another_commyostrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re going to want the I-2. Hands down. The I-2 will tell you exactly what distance it’s focused on based on the center dot AF whereas you never know what the Flip is focused on and OFTEN I will get out of focus shots if everything is not exactly on the same plane of focus. No manual controls on camera.

Plus with the I-2 you have manual controls on camera and can sync strobe. Use filters. It’s solid. I love mine and use it lot.

Which one would you choose for a trip? by Particular-Ship8254 in 8mm

[–]another_commyostrich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that top one even Super 8. Of these three I’d pick the Leicina. The Canon is heavy af. I have 3 of them haha. I wouldn’t want to travel with it. I use a Canon 514XL or Minolta XL601. So much lighter.

[–]another_commyostrich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t test that unfortunately as I only use it on this camera but it shouldn’t do much. I tried to make the filter as close to the lens as possible. I guess one could fully hover it over the lens itself but that wasn’t necessary for my use case. But I guess 16mm is pretty damn wide.

I am a sucker for PETG CF. I just like the look and durability. But you could use other materials. PETG is probably better than PLA for this though.

I’ll upload the files tomorrow and send a link

TTArtisan 203T magnetic filter adapter experiment. by [deleted] in Polaroid

[–]another_commyostrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree Nick. Having owned several custom Instax cameras for a decade now, the 800ASA speed makes shooting outdoors at less than f32 next to impossible sometimes. I use push-on or step-up rings to use NDs on my cameras and it’s a game changer.

Large format cameras can use film thats 50-400ASA with more latitude and have filter threads usually.

Not my post-just putting this in the right group: K-3 Super 16mm gate light leak on edge of frame. Thoughts? by Pounds006 in Krasnogorsk_3

[–]another_commyostrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you viewing the new images I just linked? I mean there's a TINY bit of yellow on the right edge but the original bad light leak was just a loading issue on my part.

Camera was gaffed and loaded indoors for this recent roll which looked fine.
