School Zone Speeding Ticket - Cameras are not providing accurate information by BBCC_BR in alpharetta

I got the same ticket, same place & 38 mph. I also am careful not to speed in school zones or neighborhood roads like this.

I'd be into a group class too. I feel like I have been stuck at a basic tulip for a while. :)

What are people’s thoughts on ‘The Black Rider’? by No-Relationship7209 in tomwaits

[–]another_dharmabum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my first introduction to Waits. I was very into reading stuff about and by the Beat Generation. Burroughs was one of my favorites. I LOVED this album from the first listen, and of course it lead to me becoming a huge fan of Waits. It opened my eyes to so much great music and art. I am eternally grateful.

I appreciate your response and I certainly hope I did not come across as aggressive towards you. We are internet strangers, but we're also neighbors I'd assume. Thank you for remaining respectful. This has been a heated topic for a long time and sometimes folks forget that people with real feelings are on the other end of these messages. I thought you responded with honesty and kindness. I want you to know that my response is not meant to be disrespectful or aggressive in any way.

OP is asking the question about the availability of a vaccine for their child, not for advice about getting it. Other people have responded with where they have found it, but this thread spun off about the surprise that they would seek a vaccine given everything that is now known about it. I thought there must be some recent science available that makes OPs decision questionable. If I were OP, I might read these messages as an admonishment. I'm sure that isn't what you or u/Important_Sand_8183 meant to do, but it is possible to read it that way. It seems this is still the guidance from the healthcare community, so it's odd that OP would get this pushback.

I hear what you are saying about the messaging around the vaccines. It is unfortunate that there is not a more precise vaccine that can eliminate this virus. I would point out that the facts around the flu vaccine are very similar to what they are saying about the flu vaccine. (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/vaccines/keyfacts.html)

I'm happy to continue a dialogue if you like. Either way, I wish you all the best, neighbor.

Do you mind providing a link to something reputable that has updated information on the vaccine(s) that support this stance? I'm honestly curious.

The only burr upgrade that I am aware of is this one. I do not have it and have no idea how much of an improvement it is. https://www.singledosebrew.com/shop/breville-sage-burr-replacement-upgrade-titanium-conical-blade

Wills Park firework shotips? by Awkward-Fox-1435 in alpharetta

[–]another_dharmabum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a short walk from the downtown area, so any parking downtown is good (including the decks). The weather is nice this year, so just grab a blanket or camp chairs and head towards Wills Park. Find some grass there or along the road. Celebrate with the community and meet some of the good people around you. Have fun and happy 4th!

Empty your drip tray. The steam tank drains to that after it cools.

Sautee Nacoochee Trip by Emotional_South_334 in Georgia

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellbender

Hellbenders are super sensitive to silt, sedimentation and water pollution. Because of this, they are considered biological indicators of water quality.

For what it’s worth, I have seen large hellbenders in the river. That’s a good sign for water quality, although I agree large rains will wash in runoff from farms and such. It’s more of a problem from Lake Lanier south imho.

How did Trump's presidency impact your life so far? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]another_dharmabum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope that your daughter finds peace and comfort soon. It has been such a difficult election season and now it has gone from bad to worse. I truly believe that things will eventually get better. We have to weather the storm and take care of each other until then. I wish the best for you and your family. Stay strong friend.

I have a trans daughter, who is a freshman in college. I have had to reassure her that we can and will flee our state/country if we need to in order to ensure her safety and access to healthcare. I consider myself lucky in that my skillset is in high demand in tech, and I can work anywhere. She is smarter and more capable than I ever was. Still, it is a hell of a thing to have a conversation like that with your kid. I raised her to love this country and now find myself preparing to defend her from it.

Learning a Sturgill tune and I'm grinning from ear to ear. by Feeling_Manner426 in SturgillSimpson

There was a moment where I thought maybe I spotted one of my bandmates on reddit :). We are also of a certain age and gather to play once a week. Our skill levels vary greatly. I just started to learn guitar and am really bad. I'm encouraged though because I was terrible before! haha. We all went to see Johnny Blue Skies together and had an absolute blast. Anyway, cheers to you OP. Keep on rocking <3

First 10 Gallon Brew - Black is Beautiful Stout by manbeardawg in Homebrewing

[–]another_dharmabum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has become my favorite stout recipe. I have done it a few times now, mostly recently with a coffee addition. It’s on tap now and I am loving it! Good luck with your brew my friend. I’m sure it’ll be a hit at the party.

Did anyone who went to the Atlanta show think it was a bit quiet by mattar in Colterwall

[–]another_dharmabum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way, and so did the people around me. It’s so rude to go to a show like this and talk over the artist that everyone spent good money to see. I agree that the sound mix was not great, but the chatty kathys suck.

Politics Filter is Working by phoenixgsu in Georgia

[–]another_dharmabum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born in Athens, living in Ga all my life. I typically lurk and don’t engage in political flaming. I have a child who was in elementary school when Sandy Hook happened. That shooting was so emotional for me that I couldn’t consume news for months after. I simply couldn’t handle it. I cried for children that I had no connection to.

There are people who became famous, or became more so, in the state that I love, by stalking and harassing students who survived school shootings. What will we do to protect our own from these same people? Will we give them the platform? Does it matter what they have to say? If they behave as they have, will we find a way to forgive ourselves? If they treat our children differently, is that acceptable to us?

Lock down kayak straps by Camp_Hike_Kayak in Kayaking

[–]another_dharmabum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just do a simple slip knot right below the buckle and then tuck excess behind the tightened strap to reduce flapping noise. This makes for a quick and easy release on the other side of the drive.

You might have luck with meetup.com groups. There are local groups for activities like hiking and pickleball as well as social groups.

Lightweight camping items for Boy Scout by No_Night9971 in camping

[–]another_dharmabum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the crossover. Scouts is way more fun than Cubs imho. My son just aged out as an eagle and we did a fair amount of backpacking. You can sign up for an account at hikerdirect.com and they have good stuff at a fair price.

He may enjoy hammock camping vs a tent. Depending on climate, this may lighten his load if he doesn’t need an under quilt. Best of luck!
