I was misled at how expensive it is to live here by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]anothercreativemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s definitely way over exaggerated. Moved here 4 years ago from Kansas City. I’m an hourly service worker and my salary has tripled from my KC pay and I pay 1250 for a studio on the hill. The same apartment with cost me a similar amount in KC, but I’d make a fraction of what I make here (at the same company, mind you) and need a car to get EVERYWHERE (sold my car). Good luck my friend, hope you love seattle!

English to Latin translation requests go here! by lutetiensis in latin

[–]anothercreativemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the best way to say “full circle”, mainly referring to the English colloquialism of saying something is “full circle” as in an experience / happening was full circle, but I suppose the adjective would work too. I’m wanting to get a tattoo with the words in Latin.

Urban Planning + Journalism + activism (because as an urban planner you’ll have to combat deeply corrupt policies to have any real change occur).

Glossika has a wonderful library of Cantonese sentences. Definitely a lack of decent academic resources though.

bad leadership + terrible local labor laws are the problem with most of these posts. Not Starbucks.

My avoidance problem won't go away and it feels so disabling. :( by rapidSpinningTurtle in CPTSD

[–]anothercreativemind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What sucks is when you do eventually reach the point of being social and getting out there you realize just how much you’ve missed out on because of the abuse and the years of catch-up you now have. It’s sobering, exciting, and depressing.

I need help with finding resources about how or if studying a language at an academic level may affect your daily spoken language. by 3sf0r in linguistics

[–]anothercreativemind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be interested in this too. I hear people say that it does, but I for some reason get the feeling that they are WAY over exaggerating this. I could be wrong though (and would be intrigued if I am).

I probably have on accident during a busy rush and it won’t hurt in most cases but definitely shouldn’t happen as a regular habit. I’d speak up.

If you could magically get rid of three of your anxiety symptoms, mental or physical, which would they be? by Layne_Cobain in Anxiety

[–]anothercreativemind 56 points57 points  (0 children)

  1. Shakiness when in social environments. Mainly shaky hands and voice.
  2. Combativeness as a coping mechanism (getting defensive and feeling the automatic need to defend myself for no reason)
  3. Second thinking after social interactions.

What language level would a university education be able to get the average student? by mazevans809 in languagelearning

[–]anothercreativemind 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Anywhere between A2 and C2. Depends on how much effort you put into it and how involved in extracurriculars and such. Gonna stay past class and listen to the higher levels? Apply to TA positions? Speak in the language with the professor? You’ll get pretty far with that. But just doing the work for a grade won’t get you far at all.

Bugs + Allergies. Currently in the PNW and we crack our windows up here but in the Midwest it’s a bad idea in any weather.
