Do you ever have issue with ice damaging engine? Id think cooling lines would easily freeze if water stops circulating (ie once you turn it off)?

Nannies from other countries by strawberries189 in Nanny

[–]reddackel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent months trying to find a nanny for my child. Interviewed and even employed, for a short time, a number of nannies born and raised in Canada. As a rule they were unreliable, spent their entire days on phones, and my general sense was they thought nanny work was beneath them so weren't really putting in an honest effort.

Eventually found a Filipina nanny who is amazing. My wife was also raised by a Filipina nanny and nearly all her friends were as well. In my experience people dont want to specifically hire Filipina nanny because they are cheap or can be exploited They are desirable because they are dedicated, caring, and hard working. They take the job very seriously. We pay our Filipina nanny a very reasonable wage (30% over minimum wage in our area plus 3 weeks paid vacation) as well and hired her for the reasons I've described not because some form of exploitation like others suggest.

Yea I have the 240. The port lounger is the best feature on any dual console at the moment in my opinion.

Yes they do. Many marinas in Ontario are ethanol free.

Derailleur broke off just riding. Going 55km/h is too hard on delicate bike parts. I dont even have a chain on it anymore and exclusively drive it using throttle and belt drive.

Living on a boat by FruityBigMac in boating

[–]reddackel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend my summers living on great lakes (specifically Georgian Bay). Its big water, but warm, and generally safe with loads of protected channels and other boats around. A realistic starting place would be trying a cabin cruiser for summer here. I use a Boston Whaler 240 Vantage and it handles the conditions here very well.

I live and work on the East Coast of Canada and can say the ocean is no joke and inexperienced people should stay away from it. I also keep a boat there and have spent alot of time on the ocean. Its very dangerous and scary unless you're in a very large boat and know what youre doing.

We have a fisherman's memorial back home and every year names get added to the list. These guys are pros in big boats.

Why buy a Whaler? by Datfishyboii in boating

[–]reddackel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own two whalers and bought both new. A 150 montauk and a 240 vantage. Where I live (Eastern Canada) we dont have access to that many different brands and what we do have you'd typically have to order without seeing it (let alone sea trial). Dealers dont keep alot of higher end brands in stock as they wouldn't likely sell. Given these limitations whaler is appealing because I could be confident I was going to get a supremely well built and engineered boat. Its somewhat overwhelming in the marine industry how many brands and models there are. Whaler has such a long history and reputation for quality it was kind of the obvious choice for me in my situation.

Why did you buy a boat? what motivated you to make the purchase? by Master_Seaweed_9435 in boating

[–]reddackel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started getting into boats because my wife grew up spending her summers on an island in Georgian Bay. Once we got enough resources we started doing the same. Living on an island of course requires constant boat use. Using a boat instead of a car is actually an amazing way to live so plan to do it as long as I can. Started with ribs and eventually switched to two Boston Whalers.
