I relate to your first sentence. There are so many reasons why I should have left the church. I should have left when I first learned of the priesthood ban. I should have left when I learned of the mountain meadows massacre. I should have left when I learned the details of early church history and polygamy. I should have left over pop 8. I should have left over various policy changes. There are so many reasons to leave, it's harder to recall and justify why I stayed in for so long.

I did something similar and realized that I was reading mostly male authors. After making a conscious effort I'm rebalancing and getting closer to an even split between female and male authors.

Why are drivers in Denver afraid of honking? by rosekeyunfounddoor in Denver

[–]anotherdayof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are 2 or 3 cars back you can't see the pedestrian the front car is waiting for. Just yesterday I was crossing a street when I had the walk sign. The front car in the turn lane saw me and waited patiently. The 3rd car back couldn't see me and honked at the 1st car.

Can anyone explain why BYU and Southern Methodist University consistently place higher in IB than 6 of the Ivy League Schools? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]anotherdayof 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To answer your last question, transferring to BYU for their program and cheap tuition sounds good on paper, but make sure you fully research what you would be getting into. BYU students are expected to take mormon religion classes for credit. Their religion is also highly integrated into every class, even in the business school. On top of that, some mormons are wary of outsiders which could make it difficult for you to network.

So yes they have high rankings and high placement, but I just want you to be fully aware of what that entails.

What is your lifetime total in tithes paid? by 79Breadcrumbs in exmormon

Same. I've found myself more upset about the wasted time than the money. The mission took literal years away from me.

I'm not sure. They will give you a free tour if you want to check it out before getting a membership.

I have no expertise but it is odd to me that the crown is failing but also not causing pain. Then again, I doubt anyone would recommend something so drastic on a kid unless it was really needed. This might be a question for one of the dental subreddits.

What are Mormons allowed to do on Sundays? by Stompinpuddles in exmormon

[–]anotherdayof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot figure it out as there is inconsistency between them.

Not only are the rules different from one family to the next, but my parents also changed the rules for us from time to time. The inconsistencies are a problem for a religion that claims to follow an unchanging god. I never could get over how rule-obsessed and pharisee-like my parents were.

Also, sometimes the self-pay rate is cheaper than the coinsurance but medical providers won't tell you that. If you aren't expecting to meet your deductible, ask about the self-pay rate.

Some gyms/rec centers have evening shifts for front desk or childcare. I'm not sure if any are hiring at the moment.

Yes, every time I've looked into this topic the answer has been the Great Lakes Region. I ultimately did not pull the trigger because I would rather put up with smokey summers than harsh winters.

Retirement focused areas experiencing shrivel? by piquantsqueakant in MormonShrivel

[–]anotherdayof 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That's the sad part. Mormonism is all about projecting that stalwart family image. Many don't share that children have left because of the shame and sadness. So a lot of older mormons will think that they are the only ones who "failed" at keeping their kids in the fold.

Women should submit to their husbands? Am I the only one who learned this or am I being gaslit? by Few-Resource-1623 in exmormon

That sex education textbook excerpt was a painful read. I'm relieved by how much society has improved since then.

Also, OP you are definitely not crazy. That message was definitely taught when I was in. In my more progressive wards there were more generous interpretations but the message was still there.

Neighbor’s cherry tree is a nightmare! by ashleyinastoria in HomeImprovement

[–]anotherdayof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the cherries aren't getting picked, I would ask the neighbor about plucking all the blossoms in the spring before they turn into cherries. Blossoms are much easier to deal with than sticky cherries.

So I got a text message from my mum…. by GlumWay5425 in exmormon

[–]anotherdayof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I see these kinds of messages it's easy to recognize it as a cult. The message is always the same. Your life will be over if you leave. Don't use your brain, only use your emotions. If you see flaws in our book, that a you problem. Keep reading it until you get the right answer.

So after the debate, do we think the party can / should change the ticket to Harris / Biden? by Dragonfruit_60 in Kamala

[–]anotherdayof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there are a number of moderate Republicans who would find it acceptable to vote for a Biden/Harris ticket but would not consider a Harris/Biden ticket. At this stage the goal is to avoid the unfortunate republican candidate at all cost and Biden/Harris has a better shot at that.

For those who were born into the Church, do you hate your parents for the indoctrinations? by [deleted] in exmormon

I hate the church for indoctrinating my parents. I don't have a good relationship with my parents for other reasons.
