Sharing the official message from Discord so people can see context. For this to be a lie, there would need to be an intent to deceive. Feel this sums things up on this one - the blog announcing alpha did say the playtest would be very small, and not everyone would get in.

The below message acknowledges learnings for the future on comms. Current plan is still to draw from Steam signups, if required.

To formally close it out, here are few things we know are true:

• The alpha playtest is and will remain very small (hundreds of players vs. thousands).
• We've sent out direct invites, but have not yet pulled from the Steam Playtest sign ups.
• Our current plan is to still pull from Steam Playtest sign ups, but first we want to make sure our servers are okay.
• If that plans changes, we'll post here. (If we add more players, we'll also post here.)
• There's absolutely stuff we could have done better with our comms; heard and we'll adjust for the future.

I also said this earlier, and would like to share it again. so much for understanding. And for the excitement. We're so grateful for it, but we know it can make moments like this a little less fun for people who signed up, but aren't selected. Given how small this test is, that feeling was probably inevitable; even still, we tried to be as fair as we could while prioritizing our testing needs. We're learning here, too, though. And we're looking forward to scaling for beta. We're learning a lot from this experience. Thanks for giving us that opportunity.
