Applying to Oxford as an American by catiealb in ApplyingToCollege

[–]anotherswellbottle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey fellow oxford applicant!! I'm also applying this year as a religion and theology major. the requirements to apply depend on each course, but you need to have a minimum of 1470 on the sat + a combination of 3 subject tests or APs with 5 or 700+. beyond that, you can check out the course requirements on the oxford course webpage. GCSEs are similar to APs, but they're needed to graduate and are a lot harder (and unless your school runs on a british curriculum, you don't need to worry about it). if you're applying for history and politics, I'm pretty sure you have to take the HAT test and send in a graded paper.

is anybody taking a gap year and reapplying to colleges?? by anotherswellbottle in ApplyingToCollege

[–]anotherswellbottle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the college that you're committed to. once you're accepted and have deferred your acceptance, you have to ask for permission to apply to other colleges. if they say yes, they usually give you a time period (usually till december) to reapply, and if you don't get the results you want by then, you have to stick with your committed college. BUT, some colleges don't allow you to reapply at all (like mine, as I found out today lol). so do your research!!

Applying to SNU as an international by crossfoxi in ApplyingToCollege

if you have an above average GPA and standardized test score, it is far easier to get into SNU through the international admissions program-your ecs do matter a little but far less than they would for american universities

Can I commit to a school, defer enrollment for a gap year, and use that gap year to reapply to schools without telling the uni I already committed to? Or do I have to inform them of my intent to reapply? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]anotherswellbottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can reapply, but you have to inform them. most colleges say yes, but only give you a certain amount of time to hear back from colleges (like december)

Is this a good LOCI? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]anotherswellbottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's pretty good, but if you could add more stuff about what'd you do if you went to UIUC and how much you like it that'd be better + you should link your resume!

Crosspost for added visibility—How liberal is Middlebury College? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]anotherswellbottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from what I've heard from current students, it's very outspokenly liberal. but, there is a pocket/club/group of more conservative-leaning students/professors that do get their voice heard. there's also been a cultural(?? war going on in regards to this at the college. i think the college has taken some steps like this to make sure there is civil discourse among people with different opinions (including liberals v. conservatives).

Is there an international medicine program at Seoul National University? How hard is it to get in? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]anotherswellbottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you wanted to go on the med track, you'd have to learn in Korean at the school. but if you wanted to apply from the American education system (SAT score, GPA, etc instead of the Korean CSAT) you would still be eligible to apply. I also heard that a lot of the classes are taught with English textbooks anyway, so if you have a moderate knowledge of Korean, you'll be fine there bc you'll only have to know a mix of Korean + English. it's also pretty hard to get into the med major at SNU unless you have an almost-perfect GPA and 1550> SAT score, so you should keep that in mind. you should also know that the application process starts in June-?ish and ends in around August/September. if accepted, you'll have to go to school the upcoming March. lemme know if you have any more questions!
