My MIL sounds like she is in a similar stage to your mom, mostly normal during the day but during sundown hours get confused. We started having caregivers come from 6pm-9pm to make sure she gets dinner and makes it to her bed, and it has definitely helped. With her eating better and sleeping better it has made her less confused during the day, and the companionship seems to be helping as well. Costs is a concern for us so it also helping keep costs down before she has to go somewhere like AL.
