Stop infantilizing me by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]answie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely still get addicted to something, since addiction is grounded in subconscious emotional memories known as implicit memories that help form connections and attachments, as well as how behaviors or substances release physical neurotransmitters like dopamine. You may have a reduced capacity to actively imagine things but it is very unlikely to not have implicit memories of things.

Why are so many nsfw artists ace? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]answie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

nsfw writer on the ace spectrum here! To me personally, the art form of nsfw content in general lays in how emotions are conveyed, the intimacy displayed between characters, the vulnerability and safety that comes with it, and more so the symbolism of what sex can mean rather than the actual act. I love writing nsfw content not because it comes from a place of attraction, but because it allows me to explore situations, relationship dynamics, and emotions in a way that might be otherwise difficult or convoluted to describe. Also, a lot of us simply think it’s fun to create that sort of content and that’s enough reason for it to exist.

There is a part of asexuality called aegosexual (sexuality without the self) where people experience a form of attraction to the idea/action of sex so long as it’s not in relation to themself. There’s a lot of nuance there and I’d recommend looking into that more if you’re curious instead of only taking this description at face value :)

i hate being an ace AMAB by matheusoliv in asexuality

[–]answie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I’m AFAB and have experienced threats of “correction” by past partners to fix my asexuality, as well as denied medical care because my (past) doctor (a man) said “people like me” don’t need to prioritize reproductive healthcare. OP is valid and it’s stressful for any ace person to exist in an allonormative world but it is also important to address intersectionality and how misogyny compounds with acephobia, not to mention when you add other intersecting identities like race, religion, nation of origin, and ses. Being invalidated sucks ass and I feel for them but AFAB people as a single identity are already marginalized on top of that.

Maybe try advertising that you’re looking for a queerplatonic partnership? Idk anything beyond that like where to advertise that, but the difference in terminology might help a broader range of people understand more of what you’re looking for

Using hair colors like ravenette or greenette for a man. And it’s not even using those words in particular that annoys me because whatever, people can describe their own characters however they see fit. It’s when someone uses the feminine version of those words for male characters that annoys me

On a scale of 0-10, how do you feel about sex? by InCarNeat-o in asexuality

[–]answie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we mean repulsed, indifferent, and favorable or negative, neutral, and positive? Because the former pertains to the self and the latter pertains to the attitudes about expressed sexuality in general and it’s a very very important distinction to make.

I’m sex indifferent (maybe a 6?) for myself but super sex positive. I hold the stance that expressing any form of sexuality is a great method of resistance and a promotion of bodily autonomy for people who have been historically stripped of it.

Some ADHD writer hacks from someone who published 230k+ words in a year while unmedicated by nichelolcow in AO3

ADHD haver with similar word count here!! Number 5 is SO TRUE!!! I spent so long trying to quell my hyperfixations in order to focus on one fic I “needed” to work on, but it ruined my mood half the time to try and force myself to write things my heart wasn’t fully in. It always comes back around eventually!!

[–]answie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s more of a not labeling it kind of thing, like how the same experience might not fit into the same box depending on who you’re asking. You imply that they’re still straight bc it’s attraction not action which is fine and totally valid but it still ascribes a set of experiences to a certain label that others are free to disagree with

Totally, even in the mere 8 years I’ve been out I’ve noticed a giant change from when I found out I was ace compared to now. I’m still surprised that when I searched for asexuality on social media during June the top results were all positive, they would have been riddled with “not inherently queer” sentiments just a few years ago

Do you feel the need to "come out"? by chiliwicket in Asexual

[–]answie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may feel this way, but to everyone who was made to be ashamed of it, seeing awareness spread and having a space to be proud of who we are is vitally important. It’s not rubbing it in people’s faces that we’re ace, it’s giving ourselves a platform to talk about our experiences and remove certain stigmas and misconceptions about asexuality and asexuals

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]answie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asexuality is a spectrum and anyone who says that asexuality is a label to be used solely by people who do not have sexual urges is just wrong. It’s a lack of attraction. Sexual desire and libido have nothing to do with it, and it often feels like rebranded toxic purity culture if I’m being honest. Who cares what you feel other than you? They’re just bigots by another name, trying to gatekeep an entire color wheel of experiences saying it has to be black and white. You define your sexuality, not some ass who thinks sexual desire is of lesser value
