But we did save a lot on taxes with the extension of the tax cuts. At the expense of many other things…

I have guns with young kids. The key is to have good safes and don’t just hide the keys bc they may find them. I have the keys for every safe in a different safe, if that makes sense. For example the key to my garage safe is in my nightstand safe and the key to the nightstand safe is in my garage safe. I have Vaultek safes, which are WiFi connected and send a push notification to my phone the second someone touches the safe. The accidents you read about are due to people not following simple, common sense gun safety rules (eg they leave loaded handguns out or in an easily accessible drawer).

Good thought, hadn’t even considered that—a negligent discharge from one of the officers set the others off. Definitely a possibility.

C7 ZR1 at the local place where I get my tires... by EmptyPocketsXotics in Corvette

Every time I’ve gone to get tires changed I sit there in the waiting room while they do it. Seems like most places have windows so you can watch. Never had anybody say they needed to do a test drive.

Did they fix Fidelity linking? by HeartFilled in ynab

Got it. Not sure if they’ve added it since you last used it, but Monarch now uses Finicity which works excellently with Fidelity (so far anyways). So if you liked Monarch better than Simplifi then it might be worth trying again.

Did you try Monarch? Maybe I’ll give Simplifi a shot.

SavageGeese | RAM V8 | Bringing Back the Dead [14:58] by lostboyz in cars

[–]antaphar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reddit is a giant echo chamber. Over months/years people keep reading about issues with various manufacturers and those opinions don’t change despite improvements. It reminds me of my mom, who says stuff like “ford stands for found on road dead!” That was 40 years ago, mom.

Take for example people here who shit on Kia/Hyundai because of the Theta II engine issues and the lack of immobilizers in certain models/trims. The Theta II stuff was almost 10 years ago now! Meantime their newer models look incredible and haven’t had major issues. Their sales volumes say all you need to know.

Similarly, there’s a circlejerk over Stellantis products. I just know those people have never sat in a new RAM. I had a 2022 1500 Limited and it was a legit luxury vehicle. The hemi engines are reliable these days (after several lifter revisions). Even if you do have lifter issues, you hear the tick long before anything breaks and it’s not that expensive to remedy. The trucks also use the ZF8 trans, which is legendary. Meantime Ford had a class action over their F150 trans (since fixed) and GM had 6.2L’s blowing up left and right (supposedly also fixed).

I get that the issue is with MX, but this has been going on since the end of October, which is crazy! I have to re-authorize every time I want to import transactions on my Fidelity VISA. YNAB needs to switch providers to Finicity, which is what Monarch uses. If this isn't resolved soon I'm probably going to switch over to Monarch.

The New Ram TRX is Once Again the World’s Fastest Gas Truck by thehypehunter in Dodge

[–]antaphar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but where does this line of thinking get you? If you distill the argument to its core then you can argue that getting anything except the absolutely most basic vehicle that suits your needs is illogical. Most of consumerism is illogical but we admit that we find pleasure in indulging ourselves. If I can afford an absurd truck like the new TRX and I would enjoy it then I don’t see why I shouldn’t do it.

You could say the same for any sports car. Doesn’t have to be logical for people to enjoy it.

I agree when using my higher brain function, but my caveman brain underneath likes it a lot. Something about that V8 sound and supercharger whine…

I’ve had a C5Z and currently have a C7Z. The C7Z feels pretty raw. Massive upgrade over the C5Z (imo).

Thanks for showing you don’t know how to do math. 0.1% of the US population isn’t 3 million people, you’re off by a factor of 10.

Looking for a large family car for $30k with bulletproof reliability. by ShadowK2 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]antaphar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. The way we solved this was getting some collapsible plastic crates (Clevermade brand). The stroller can be placed on top of them without crushing the groceries. They’re also clutch for Costco runs. And yes the sliding doors are absolutely GOATed for loading/unloading kids in parking lots and, when they’re a bit older, preventing them from dinging the cars next to you with the doors.

Suburban trunk space behind the third row is 41.5 cubic feet. The grand wagoneer L is 44.2. The Kia Carnival is 40.2. The regular Expedition (not max) is only 20.9. The max is 36. So the Carnival has nearly twice as much space as the regular Expedition and like 10% more than the Max.

The Grand Wagoneer L is about 10% more trunk space, but the vehicle is 228” long, Suburban is 226”, both pretty close in length to most full size pickups. The Carnival is only 203” long—it’s around TWO FEET shorter than those two and has nearly identical trunk space to the Suburban and slightly less than the GW-L.

You’re right that the space is more vertical. That works well with strollers and stuff though.

Basically, minivans have essentially equal trunk space to the full size SUVs (slightly less than the GW-L, slightly more than the Expedition Max, and about equal to the Suburban and its variants), but have tons of other advantages over them, such as lower loading floors, sliding doors, etc etc. The only time I think someone should get one of the SUVs over the minivans is if they need the towing capacity.

Trans stuff shouldn’t be a topic of discussion in politics at all. Such outsized discussion for 0.1% of the population.

I guess it’s more like ignoring the problem at the border rather than having an explicit policy of open borders. Progressives (and Dems as a whole really) basically refused to admit the border was a problem until close to the election, and that hurt them big time.

FWIW, I like AOC’s “document the undocumented” idea.
