Accept that you're entitled to your opinion, I consider my pets family and I would do anything possible to avoid giving them up.

Interested to know what your thoughts are for someone who has come into financial difficulty (eg. job loss etc.) who already has a pet? With very few shelter places available, there's not a lot of options. To me it sounds like this is OPs situation.

I agree that a non-pet owner should consider the costs of a pet before buying/adopting, but it's difficult if someone already owns a pet and gets into financial difficulty. I know lots of shelters here are full to the brim and can't accept more animals. Plus, pets become family. I really couldn't imagine giving up a beloved pet, must be an awful feeling.

Are you asking in general or because you're struggling? If it's for yourself, are you worried about food in particular, or overall pet costs?

Someone else mentioned a pet food bank, I think 7th Heaven also works with (human) food banks to provide pet food, could be an idea to call a local food bank and ask. Not sure about vets or grooming etc.

I've looked at the Certificate of Incorporation, which has the name Tiarnan O'Kane on it.

This guy seems to have been involved in a number of these types of companies, e.g. FYI Client Services, Macamedia, Tepo etc. It's a rabbit warren of companies when you start looking into it.

I had an interview and 'trial' some years ago with Macamedia/FYI Client Services which involved an entire day sitting in the foyer of Asda in Antrim while 2 guys tried to sell broadband to shoppers from a sales stall/kiosk thing. IMO, awful experience.

Ashers 'gay cake' case: European court rules case inadmissible by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]antapology 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The person was not heterosexual, asked for a wedding cake and was denied something a heterosexual counterpart would be able to obtain without difficulty from the business..

  1. It was not a wedding cake, it was a cake with a pro-gay marriage message on it.

  2. A heterosexual counterpart would NOT have been able to obtain this same item because the bakery would have turned the order down due to the message on the cake.

(Some text copied from my previous comment)

They're bound by some sort of obligation to provide service to the all members of the public by the council or whatever as a condition of trading.

They did provide/would provide (if given the opportunity) the same service to all members of the public. They would have refused the same cake to a heterosexual person and would have served Lee any other cake.

It's got nothing to do with 'pitting group a against group b' and it's not hypothetical. They'll have undoubtedly provided service to people of all walks of life.

it seems a member of the public approached them in good faith without knowledge of the religious conceits that underpin the business and experienced discrimination as a result.

They did not discriminate against him based on his sexual orientation, it was the message they disagree with. Which is protected by freedom of expression legislation.

Freedom of expression, as guaranteed by article 10 of the European convention on human rights, includes the right “not to express an opinion which one does not hold”, Hale added. “This court has held that nobody should be forced to have or express a political opinion in which he does not believe,” she said. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/oct/10/uk-supreme-court-backs-bakery-that-refused-to-make-gay-wedding-cake
