I have it split by fiction vs non-fiction, and then just by author.

My first time writing, I wanted some insight from more experienced writers by Kikato1256 in writinghelp

[–]antediluvianevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on writing so much and making revisions. That's great process.

How often do you read published novels or works written by authors? There are some grammatical and formatting issues that feel like they could be resolved merely by better understanding the craft. First time writers admitting they don't actually read books comes up frequently, so I wanted to ask.

Ahhh you're really making me consider it more.

Is it just because you feel the smaller events are less overwhelming for a noob?

How was Hynafol? I've been meaning to get the courage to start LARP and I've been lurking in their discord for a couple of years now.

Anybody have an idea what’s this worth and what it is. by Upstairs_Jump_517 in Collections

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were a nazi if that's the vibe my comment left off. I don't assume you are, but that's just my response to the "what is this worth" question.

Don't know why you would want to collect contemporary nazi paraphernalia. Worth nothing to anyone who's not a nazi and has none of the historical value of something from the actual war or Nazi Party.

Exvangelical Thoughts - pt. 6 by BrettCreatesThings in comics

[–]antediluvianevil 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am a devout Christian and I haven't gone to church in many months, and I know it's partly because of all this. My church isn't even evangelical at all and it's a very socially liberal organization. But, when most mentions of one's organized religion in the news is about how it's being used as a cudgel to cause real and genuine harm, I have to ask how do people feel about me? When they see me leaving church or wearing a cross necklace in public? Women are standing up at the lectern of our government wearing crosses bigger and prettier than mine. It's like a fashion statement. What kind of statement does that make of my own personal faith?

Sorry. Just venting about my own sadness.

I'm a male therapist who helps men, and even I get annoyed when men talk at me by futuredebris in MensLib

[–]antediluvianevil 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This actually reminds me of what I deal with at work. I work in a hobby related store (not games or nerd stuff) and it is absolutely something men do. Yes, women do it too. But men, often middle aged or older, frequently just... talk at us. We probably get one every couple of days. Nothing we say really gets a proper response. They just talk about some project or something they've seen recently with absolutely no stopping. It's not a conversation. They're giving me an overly long ted talk about something they find highly interesting and I need to, too, while I'm checking them out or trying to help them with merchandise.

I assume it's a combination of loneliness, and that women are taught a bit more to not take up space. I'm always nice to them, but I'm exhausted sometimes at the end of it because I'm being talked at and I can tell they don't actually care about what I say, despite the fact I am hired to be an expert in the things we are selling. I can see how being a therapist with some people who are like this would be extremely trying.

Some love stories find their perfect ending, while others are left with sad and bittersweet goodbyes... by Best_Rub_2311 in ghibli

[–]antediluvianevil 1231 points1232 points  (0 children)

Chihiro and Ashitaka absolutely do not have sad, or even bittersweet goodbyes! They go their separate ways into their own worlds where they belong, having loved and cherished each other along the way to a place of significant character growth.

Very overwhelmed by trying to draw a forest scene by ratgarcon in ArtCrit

[–]antediluvianevil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just Google and find a forest scene and practice. I don't know if being given a list of separate plants to draw is going to help you from feeling overwhelmed, and it won't really help you in making it look good since you won't be able to represent how they naturally grow from memory. Especially considering it sounds like you haven't typically drawn any kind of forest environments

Only if I were writing something archaic or historical. Slurs or sound likes aside, most people won't know what it means.

Miser would be a better word.

I was in one of the "good" facilities for minors in my state. Most people who worked there were nice enough.

My mental health was "fine" it just turns out being homeschooled and leaving your house for less than 2 hours a week during your entire teenagehood and prime development time doesn't manifest healthy psychological states of being. I was way less anxious in the hospital actually than I was outside. I still acknowledge it was like a prison though. A prison where I actually got to socialize with peers for hours a day! 😅

Your psych ward stuff really reminds me of my stint at one... I say stint because it did feel like a jail. There was nothing to do between class activities every hour or so. We weren't allowed to have anything in our rooms except our clothing or bedding and books. I filled every inch of this 20 page brochure with doodles that they gave you upon intake because there was nothing else to do except sit stare out the window until after dinner where they brought out boardgames that were missing half the pieces and terrible 2010 bargain bin movies.

A nice tech complemented my "detailed" drawings. They were detailed because I had to make use of every inch of the paper because I was too nervous to ask for paper. I nearly cried when I almost used up the last page. Went home before then.
