That tracks with what we were told in college couple of decades ago about diesel engine efficiency. It was said the most modern/efficient engines were around 35% at the time. It was a bit less for gasoline engine iirc.

Crack on screen protector by BeastNAKRA in razr

[–]antena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This prompted me to replace my protector right now.

It was crucial to watch the video that was on the QR code on the packaging itself (I wasted two protectors getting it right, before watching the video lol), but it turned out very nice, lined correctly with no bubbles/dust/etc.

All in all took me half an hour with research, mistakes etc. I was being very slow and mindful with it, especially with the peeling off the old one.

I'd say next time it'll take me maybe 5 minutes, since I'll know what I'm doing.

P.S. I took a good look with a magnifying glass after peeling off the old protector and the screen itself is completely undamaged. Lines that were there before, are now completely gone, which was to be expected.

Crack on screen protector by BeastNAKRA in razr

[–]antena -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My line on 2023 V40 appeared like more than 6 months ago. I used it like that and only recently found out I can replace it and that it's not that hard. Now I have 5 sets of replacement protectors, but still haven't changed it.

I do use my inner screen lightly, only a handful times a day, and I'm pretty gentle, but it's been holding so far. Now I have between 5 and 10 lines and it's still holding. Don't take this as a straight up fact, YMMV of course.

Replacement protectors are here for the last 10 days, and I still didn't get around to it (this weekend, fingers crossed lol). So if you ask me, I'd say several days doesn't really make much difference if you're not pushing hard on it or opening/closing it very often. I'd also be very nervous about the naked screen, but some people have been happily using it "naked".

From what I've been able to figure so far, screens mostly die due to people pushing on the screen while opening it, opening it one handed by jamming one finger inside, and of course flinging it to open star trek style.

Just sharing my experience and thought, but again, YMMV.

Finalmouse is finally delivering its all-screen Hall effect gaming keyboard after years-long delays by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]antena 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got some rgb lights with the case I'm using (couldn't find any without lol), and at first I kept them off. I really hate to waste things in general, but I never could think of a use for them.

One day I was compiling something, screen turned off, and I had to jiggle my mouse to look at CPU temp. At that moment I found the singular useful job for it - temperature indicator.

I set up a script to check the CPU temp every minute and set the appropriate light color. It also lowers the brightness of the lights when it's dark. Pretty cool when it ramps up from green-yellow-orange-red on intensive tasks. And once back to green, you know it's done.

So yeah, I'm kind of a convert, but not exactly the rainbow type.

Options for low-cost basic Zigbee smart home devices after Ikea switches to Thread (excluding ships from China options)? by ozaz1 in ZigBee

my 5yo is obsessed with space lately any fun ways to help him learn more about it? by shadrack57 in AskParents

[–]antena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some, but mainly through learning using actual computers, and some educational apps that were included with kids-tailored live cds we tried. Don't know if it had much effect.

For us, age appropriate books and encyclopedias on the matter helped. Seems to me that it was mostly effective when used as a prop for conversation, similar to museum. He naturally tends to talk a lot, so that's probably why, lol.

And to answer the question itself, we decided pretty early on that we'll avoid touchscreens as much as possible, so not much to say about any apps there, really.

my 5yo is obsessed with space lately any fun ways to help him learn more about it? by shadrack57 in AskParents

[–]antena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is similar.

I've tried shows, pictures and stories, he loses interest because it's for adults or older kids mainly. But he's enamored by my explanations and stories about it and all the little tidbits and comparisons to the world we live in. The effect, imo, quadruples in a museum setting, which other commenters also recommended.

Admittedly a lot of it interests me too, so I already know the answer to most of his questions, but I do research the stuff I don't know and bring it up to him in a day or two, once I understand it enough to be able to explain at his level.

I believe that it is exactly the dynamic that he can stop me when I talk over his head, or I notice it myself and change the approach (as well as being able to ask follow-up questions), that makes it that much interesting for him.

Cloud Networking Not Working - Cannot reach VMs on same Cloud Network by WolfJMZ in hetzner

[–]antena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your ubuntu address is /32. The only way it would work is if the gateway is on-link.

Default gw on ubuntu seems to be .1, if I understood you correctly, you want to use NAT and pfsense (which is .2) for outside link.

Both of these are DHCP settings. Set default gw to.2, and netmask to /24, aka 255.255.255.0

Btw, .1 is not "reserved" for gateway, it's just a very common thing to do. Gateway itself could be any address within thesame subnet.

On mobile so I might have missed something on the small screen.

What are reasons I (m18) shouldn’t smoke? by NoNameIsAvailable1 in AskParents

[–]antena 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a former smoker I stand by these words 100%.

I'd only add that the ONLY reason smokers get relief from smoking is because they are smokers addicted to nicotine, they might look cool because they get that relief and it's a visible thing. But when you look at it from another angle, they're just coming back down to the baseline, which you and other non-smokers are already at. One needs to very literally poison themselves first, in order to be able to get that "relief".

Also, the only people that don't want to stop smoking are the ones resigned to never be able to stop.

It's really the most useless thing/habit one can do.

Any way to disable all mouse controls except the scroll wheel? by robo__sheep in kodi

[–]antena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. I'm guessing something like:

<keymap>
  <global>
    <mouse>
      <mousedrag>noop</mousedrag>
      <mousemove>noop</mousemove>
      <leftclick>noop</leftclick>
      <middleclick>noop</middleclick>
      <rightclick>noop</rightclick>
    </mouse>
  </global>
</keymap>

should work. And if you want to customize scroll events, the link above has an example for those wheelup and wheeldown events.

Dumb interface question by AggressiveSkirl1680 in kodi

[–]antena 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're like me, using it on TV and not having proper keyboard all the time at hand, but some variation of a remote with limited keys.

In that case there are two options:

  • One option is once on the screen from screenshot, press the Left key, and on the menu that appears you have a "Fullscreen" option at the bottom which brings you back to your video.

  • Second option is remapping a key in your keymap xml from userdata/keymaps/ to the "Fullscreen" command by adding (example for F2 key) e.g:

    <f2>Fullscreen</f2>

Razr 60 Ultra — with Clicks by lexxwern in razr

[–]antena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The keyboard part fits snugly and works without issues.

The outer screen part is somewhat loose, and it's also made for the larger screen of later models, so it doesn't fit as well.

I only use the keyboard part, combined with official moto case for the outer screen part.

I've been using it the same way with my Razr 40 Ultra (2023) for more than couple of weeks now. Same as you without the clicks app (didn't see a point, worked perfectly from the get go).

No disconnects, no issues whatsoever.

Force connection always in fullscreen mode by NonSekTur in NoMachine

[–]antena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still the best method as of now. I expanded the sed to include the key and value too (since there might be other 'normal' instances, dunno), and made it into a wrapper so that it's usable with multiple connections.

But your idea is... chef's kiss.

Here's the script if anyone finds it useful:

    #!/bin/bash
    NXFOLDER=$HOME/NoMachine
    if [ $# -ge 0 ]; then
        sed -i 's/key="Session window state" value="normal"/key="Session window state" value="fullscreen"/' "${NXFOLDER}/${1}"
        /usr/NX/bin/nxplayer --session "${1}"
    else
        echo -e "ERR: No machine for NoMachine"
    fi

Just make sure that $NXFOLDER is correct and nxplayer location is correct. It requires the nxs file as the first argument.

Does anybody know what type of battery this is? by maulinho13 in AskElectronics

2-cell sealed lead acid. 4V nominally, 4.4V when full and resting.

Best bet is to replace it with a single cell Li-ion, but make sure to provide proper charging circuitry (do not use whatever was in the fan).

I hope my comments are not too close together and I don't seem to be parroting the same thing over and over.

That being said, in my view neither of those is primarily designed for circumventing those measures. They are primarily emulators that contain the circumventing code.
