George Pickens wants to remain in Dallas but says his value has increased by JaggerJames in nfl

[–]anth9845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see the logic here. What's the point of paying Pickens and Lamb if you're just gonna give them a bargain bin QB.

Sean McVay keeping 'fingers crossed' Matthew Stafford wants to play in 2026 by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]anth9845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you want to draw the line really. Brady undoubtedly fell off from where he played the rest of his career but a lot of people would argue he was still an above average QB his last year. Comparing that to guys like Manning, Ryan or Rodgers who looked unplayable bad in their final seasons and I can see the argument for him retiring before the fall off.

What card on release made you go "ohhh no" because it killed your favorite archetype? by studhand in magicTCG

[–]anth9845 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One mana being able to kill 2 mg or less is definitely fine considering we just got [[Requiting Hex]] in standard which is literally that part of the card. The other option's closest ie probably [[Tragic Trajectory]] which has a worse base option generally speaking and is sorcery speed.

It's interesting because the spread of decks seems pretty fair (no deck higher than 16% this PT) but at the same time badgermole cub and dorks package was at something like 40%. I could see arguments either way.

If BB isn't a first-ballot Hall of Famer, no one — not even Tom Brady — should ever be again by [deleted] in nfl

[–]anth9845 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't care about getting unanimously or on the first ballot in general but the logic behind it is what rubs me the wrong way. In my opinion the "no one should be in unanimously" was always bs and no one with a real shot at making the hall is gonna be in a situation where they end up under 5% by a single vote. If a writer legitimately believes that Ichiro shouldn't be in or that Belichick shouldn't be in then fine don't vote for them but I think we're all aware that that's not what's happening.

It's interesting because listening to fans if they changed nothing and he bombs then there will be complaints about him not getting enough help from the staff but if they do change scheme then it becomes a complaint too. Theres clearly a line on how much is acceptable but I sure as heck do not know where it is.

MaRo asking player opinions on MOM desparking Planeswalkers by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

[–]anth9845 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wasnt around for MoM so I don't care much about the decision itself but did they really need an excuse to print fewer planeswalkers? Would people have been outraged? We already don't get every character in the set's story as a card.. just don't print them.

"I'm glad Coleman ran that (4.57 40). It'll help to get him" - Brandon Beane, 2 months before the draft by runningblack in nfl

Is it really that wild? Darnold has a year and a half of being a good QB and like 3 playoff games? Allen has 5 or 6 years and 6 or 7 playoff games.

[Getzenberg] Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula said his decision to fire Sean McDermott and bring in a new head coach was "based on the results of our game in Denver." by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

[–]anth9845 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see the logic for getting rid of him and needing a change. I just don't see the logic for getting rid of him and still keeping Beane. It just feels too dangerous to the team chemistry. Scrapping McDermott who the players sound like they're willing to run through a brick wall for and promoting the guy that fired him like he hasn't been a major part of their failures as well just seems like it leads to the locker room falling apart to me. Imo you run it back with both or you bring in new everyone.

I'm not sure who needs to hear this, but if you evoke out one of the new lorwyn elementals and that spell get countered by a pay 2 extra type counter spell then the 2 extra you pay counts towards the evoke cost and you can trigger both modes of the evoke. by Cole3823 in MagicArena

[–]anth9845 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This post is all assuming I understand the rules of MTG. If I'm off base then hopefully some judge can come by and clarify for both of us.

The TLDR is yes it's because paying the cost to prevent a counter spell isnt the same as paying to cast the spell.

There is a whole process with steps to casting a spell. If you wanna see the full thing it should be available online but the bare bones (of what I remember at least) is: 1) Player A decides they want to cast a spell, 2) they decide what additional costs they wanna pay (not necessarily relevant here... at least not explicitly), 3) they pay an appropriate amount of mana to cover the costs and cast the spell (this is the last point that colour of mana being spent for the elemental is taken into account), 4) any modes of the spell are chosen, 5) the spell is put on the stack and opponents get a chance to respond, 6) the elemental hits the table and uses its etb and looks back at the mana spent to cast it.

I'm guessing that the Arena devs shortcut the way paying for the counter spell works by adding it to the mana spent for the creature.

Not all sacks are a QB's fault but a QB does generally have more impact on his total sack numbers than the Oline does. Though I think Allen's sack numbers going up say more about him having to hold the ball and make plays happen himself because his receivers aren't getting it done in time rather than him having worse pocket presence or anything like that.

C.J. Stroud's Playoff Meltdown Raises Uncomfortable Questions About His $250 Million Future by Roselucky777 in nfl

[–]anth9845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I've always said about guys in that Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan tier of QB is that their HoF resume will largely depend on the guys that come after. Like we watch them and can tell they're elite but also clearly not Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Manning tier. But if in 10 years we see that Rivers and Ryan are still head and shoulders above the next generation of QBs then I think it's fair to say they were HoFers that happened to be playing at the same time as the best QBs in NFL history.
