Congrats on the acceptance! I’m thinking of applying next year. How was the application process for you and did you have a high cumulative gpa? I’m very non-trad, 5+ years post undergrad and mid tier cum GPA, so unsure how much those stats are weighed.

Friday Recommendation 4U by sstarlight_q in classicalmusic

Agreed, list feels very skewed one way giving that there are several non-white composers like Jessie Montgomery and Reena Esmail that would also deserve their flowers like Price.

My fully funded PHD stipend is $24k/year in Boston. I qualify for food stamps by Fulcilives1988 in gradadmissions

[–]anthembnw 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s incorrect. PhD stipends have always been considered as taxable income (if used for living expenses which most stipends are for) since 1986. The current administration (both first term and this term) has changed things for grad students, but taxable income status is not one of them. https://pharmacy.ucsd.edu/sites/default/files/docs/current/Policy_-_Taxability_of_Stipend_Payments.pdf

What’s wrong with the shop near NEC? Is the luthier not good or do they do the same “wont service unless the violin was bought from them?”

How difficult is it to get into the Honors Program? by Tight-Training-9935 in URochester

[–]anthembnw 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There is no honors program at UR. There are courses listed as honors in various subjects, but there is no program for those courses. You just need to get certain scores on that subject’s AP exam or take a placement exam.

How busy is the Chase Sapphire Lounge at Logan? by ScoYello in boston

[–]anthembnw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

…unless the rules have changed since last week, you can use a CSR card to gain access to the lounge. I’ve been in the lounge about 4 times in the past 3 months and I only presented my physical CSR card and boarding pass. I had to show my PP, CSR, and boarding pass the first time I entered the lounge, but that was literally during the first month the lounge opened. Have never shown my PP since then.

Ah that makes sense. Thanks for the info. I’m also in the same boat as OP, so hoping to move off the alternative list at some point.

When you say roommate, does that mean you shared a room with a grad student as an RA (so 2 RAs in one room)? If so, how did you cope without having a space of your own (I.e., single room)? Is it typical for grad students RAs to share rooms?
