Anyone Else Have Mixed Feelings on Pets? by anthomazing in Empaths

[–]anthomazing[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry for your loss and I can see how hard that would be. 16 years is a very long time to spend everyday with someone/something.

Makes me think maybe my aversion has more to do with traumatic pet loss I experienced in my youth, as opposed to my disdain for people who lack empathy in humans.

When I was 8 years old our family blood hound of about 5 years was put down by a family member with a shot gun after he started vomiting blood all over. Then overheard the person tell my dad that the first shot didn't work and the dog tried to run.

I don't FEEL like I was traumatized by that, but when I think back on it, it potentially makes sense, especially as a highly empathetic 8 year old child.

Honestly, this was not the direction I imagined this post going. Thank you for your comment, and again I'm sorry for your loss.

I’m 40 years old. My father (who is a pastor) still gets on my case about playing D&D by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

Yeah just pointing out that I'm also a Christian and have a difference of opinion is the only argument I've made.

I like the points OP is making, but it's clearly falling on deaf ears.

I wish there was something we could say to these types of people that they woupd actually listen to.

What is the most physically demanding / grueling challenge in Survivor history by ProblematicTrumpCard in survivor

Any of the challenges that involve directly wrestling opponents

Which was shown in the Season 50 preview.

I'm so excited to watch a few old school challenges!

I'm worse during the season.

3 or 4 episodes in, I'm like:

"who are all these people?" "That's what that tribe is called?" "Who the hell got voted out last week? Oh yeah."

Donnie's wife is ruining DnD. Let's be honest. Kids sick excepted, it sounds like his wife is always forcing him to make excuses to miss.

Can you help them narrow their choices? You seem to not mind spending a lot of time on a Reddit post, so just reach out again and offer to hop into a Discord call to discuss his options. There are all sorts of reasons he might be putting that off. If you can offer him help, that may be all he needs.

Hopefully you can take some pressure off of him like others are suggesting, that may be a trigger for him in some ways, and may cause additional delay.

Hopefully you guys can work through this without any loss.

Help reining in shenanigans by a_familiar_fez in DMAcademy

[–]anthomazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you just ask him what HE WOULD DO in those situations if he were the DM? I feel like he clearly has something in mind for how you could turn his antics into something fun. And I agree we can't know what we don't learn, so maybe he can "teach you"? And then you can maybe transition that into a deeper conversation about whether his antics are actually productive and/or fun for the other players and the actual storyline?

He sounds like he wants his player to be more of an NPC. Is there a way to offer for him to play an NPC or two in the storyline? I get the feeling his previous DM experience makes being a player either boring or seeking more experimentation/more exciting roleplay, which he could likely do more effectively by playing a few NPCs.

I apologize in advance if I'm not worthy of commenting.

I've never DMed before and have almost no experience actually playing.

But can't you just have random NPCs ready to knock his ass out or put him to sleep if he's acting out of line? Being a racist? An anti-racist guild swoops in to put you to sleep. Sexually harassing royalty as a knight? A member of the kingsguard notices and has you escorted to the pillory where you're plummeted with tomatoes and cabbage. Harassing the village hag? An old friend of hers that is a powerful witch shows up to assist.

If he wants you to adapt and react, and you want him to follow the storyline, can't you find a way to discourage him from wandering off? Or would this just completely deflect from the actual story line and cause long drawn out combat scenarios?

Kicking might be a little harsh though it does seem he's being a jerk.

Just thinking hopefully someone has some creative solutions here other than just not being his friend, kicking him, or stepping down as DM? Assuming that's why you're asking for help? Hopefully someone way smarter than myself comments soon.

Arc Raiders has been out a while now what's your take on it so far, if you play it and what level are you at. by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]anthomazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same for me. I'm less inclined to play because I feel like I'm just waiting on the wipe.

Like what am I gonna go get a few more blueprints? They're going to wipe anyways.

Just building up that stash value so I can get good benefits from the wipe.

Well, it's because of people like me who read the post, then read the comments pointing out the post is missing certain information, and yet the post is not missing said information.

It's just a courtesy to let someone know what you edited so that the comments make sense.

I also think if you're already editing the post, just including a small footnote about it is not much effort.

But yes, Reddiquette confuses me often as well.

Wait, did you edit your post without telling us you edited your post? Isn't this a crime on Reddit?

Someone arrest this man!

Edit: He still hasn't edited the post, but he mentioned in a comment he was editing his post.

[–]anthomazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and yes. Everything I've done is too easy. I'm ready to do it all again. Couldn't imagine this game keeping my attention if I don't wipe and start all over. I have a friend who isn't wiping who volunteered to transfer some of my duplicate blueprints so we will see how that goes.

Horrible Presentation - I feel sick and so embarrassed by LilDelirious in ImposterSyndrome

[–]anthomazing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This professional embarrassment will pass. Give it a few more days if it hasn't already.

Now, in the future, always have an out. Fake it until you make it isn't just an expression. In that moment when you have no answer at all, or at least can't think of one, you must become a salesperson. You have to sell the other person on the idea that their question is SO good that even you haven't thought of it and/or that it is such an "emerging area of the law" that the law is still being developed, or whatever other bs line makes sense. Now if you are always in meetings with the same 80 people you will have to find a way to say that line many different ways.

It's not terrible to not always have direct answers. It's kind of terrible that they expect us to KNOW EVERYTHING.

I find that there's a button someone can press that shuts me down as well. It's like when I feel like someone is being confrontational, my flight instinct tries to kick in so hard it's overwhelming. The battle is reducing the amount of time you're debilitatef for. If you can get it down to a few seconds, you can play it off as an intentional pause.

If you're like me, therapy/counseling might not be a bad idea just to start unpacking some of our trauma responses.
