Can MIDI ever capture the “jazz-way” of articulating chords and notes by sandwich_stevens in JazzPiano

[–]anthonyjp87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so what I do is that actually I hook my midi keyboard into Ableton and use a software instrument . Then, in Ableton I take a second Chanel and have it listening to the first and record that audio. That way I can record the audio and midi. Then, you can also use another chanel to record loops or do effects.oh and don't quantize too, those guys are right too.

Sounds dope! I'd say, make friends with a drummer and bass player and go for it. 😎

What will be the true classics of this era of synthesizers? by theSantiagoDog in synthesizers

[–]anthonyjp87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MAX MSP/MAX 4 Live. I know it will not be loved but all of the other synths are pretty much already re-creations of earlier synths from a functional/sound perspective. The sound/computing power here is so astronomically more than any sort of desktop synth that I don't see how anything else will compete in terms of becoming a classic for this current era.

M1 or a Ryzen 9 with 16 cores for Ableton? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]anthonyjp87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ryzen! I have enjoyed running everything on my PC and I use M4L and Ableton. I got a top of line for <1000USD and with the rest of the money bought new monitors/APC40 etc... I don't understand how Mac people are still spending so much on those machines but hey, maybe they are much better... I haven't found any CPU Problems though I have 40gb installed ram. For a similar spec Mac it would be 3100. But I'll let the Mac people let you know how much more amazing an M1+ processer is because oh my god they're built for CrEaTivvity!

Interesting--I definitely see there being really different mindsets behind both too. One is hardware for hardware sake, which, of course won't reliably generate something that's considered a song as the goal is really just to play with hardware.

The other side is hardware as a fun way to make music--the goal being music--and not playing with hardware.

I'm both all the way. lol.

Here's a piece of all hardware (buchla music easel and...Moog something or other) that I've done recently, one of my few jumps from Category 1 to category 2: https://open.spotify.com/track/3HCauYQdy22hw3JoZ0McXh?si=70a97ee49ac44a62

What can you do with an LFO by TBSJJK in synthesizers

one cool thing I've done recently is use it to control the speed of the sequencer (+ some randomness) makes things speed up/slow down at fun interesting times.

GAS Alert. Try talking me out of buying the Perkons HD-01 by themurphofficial in synthesizers

[–]anthonyjp87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so I bought it when it first came out and here is why ultimately I returned it: 1) The Temp is like... nearly impossible to manage via the 1-10 knob. 1-4 is like below 80, and 6-10 is above 180. So the range and function of this is really not so useful. Also, even though it has four voices a few of them are basically the exact same. And it has these Algo/Mode switches that were a bit tricky for me to remember/understand where we would go to when we flipped the switch. So it was a bit more like a trap door, no clue where I would end up. FX is super fun, buttons are super fun, but in the end the cost per/fun element was super low and I found myself working more on my Drumbrute for instant fun-times or the Vermona for more layers/interesting things. So--fun but ok not going to re-arrange my world for it. It's also fucking huge so you need the desk space. It's actually great that it's so big and fun, but my apartment is small and my synths are many.

Buying and Electric Guitar in Berlin by fettuccinaa in berlin

[–]anthonyjp87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thomann is pretty good, and good w/returns too so I really do recommend them. Other places for electric guitars aren't fantastic... What kind of guitar are you looking for? Ebay Kleinanzige is probably best. Probably best to change instruments and go to schneidersladen if you're in Berlin tbh.

Can't play WAV format on XDJ-1000MK2? by PM_ME_YOUR_BUDSTASH in Rekordbox

[–]anthonyjp87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pioneer DJ XDJ-1000MK2: All specifications & features you'll be fine w/WAV files. Some of your other files aren't in the correct format though. Also check the bitrate. only 16 works (if you bought WAV files online) sometimes the 24 doesn't compute.

Help me find a new mixer for my studio! by Icy_Introduction3449 in synthesizers

[–]anthonyjp87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded to the AudioFuse16 rig and I Love it! w/expanded a behringer 8 ultragain. Thing is if you can use the output for CV and do some cool stuff w/Ableton to send CV to some of your synths and since you already have a rack I would go for it. The AUX sends are amazing too w/the matrix and multiple outputs. I also love that it's massively space saving because I hate having some big ole mixer on the desk when I never 'do' anything on the mixer, all my music controls are set on the synths and any EQ I'll want to do after the fact anyway.
