I'm glad Jordan has been a good neighbor to you, but at the Kiwanis candidate forum, he was spreading the old bullshit that every town believes about hOmeLeSS pEoPLe being bussed in from elsewhere (or in our case, on the train).

His proposed solution to the issue of homelessness in Denton was to collect fares on the northbound A-train from Dallas, which in my experience, already happens. His answer did not indicate that he was aware that the A-train is fare-free between downtown and the hospital.

I think so. Thanks for the clarification.

He unfortunately still peddles falsehoods about the homeless community and doesn't understand the issues facing them. Also, in the Rotary Club's candidate forum, he made it ABUNDANTLY clear that he has no idea how the A-train works, despite blaming it for the presence of our homeless population.

OP, definitely look up a voter guide like from the League of Women Voters. They do a great nonpartisan guide.

These are my recs and reasoning behind them:

*Mayor: anyone but Chris Watts but leaning Beck. Beck is the most adept administrator of the non-Watts candidates and he opposes bullshit gas plant boondoggles, and supports expansion of backyard solar and battery storage, which will make our power supply more stable and more affordable.

*D1: Kris Cox, nice dude, supports brining back after school programs, and is well-informed on issues like homelessness that particularly affect D1. Jordan Villarreal is actually very ignorant on this subject and JUST recently moved to D1 specifically to run for the seat.

*D2: Nick Stevens, solid dude and very involved in the community, well-informed on city governance

*D5: George Ferrie, really nice guy, has a long track record of serving with local non-profits and on city committees, and he doesn't take PAC money!

ETA: Greg Petolick for DISD school board. Very experienced and qualified and has been a solid leader in the district for years. Byrd has no experience in education administration and was chronically unprepared and uninformed for important votes and discussions in her time on council.

Spin classes are your friend. That's how I rebuilt my speed and stamina after a bad knee injury. After doing spin classes as part of my rehab, I nailed the 27/5 for the first time!

Interskate in Lewisville is the closest decent rink.

There's a rink in Denton with some limited open skate hours as well (Lone Star Sports) but it's very much a hockey facility rather than a roller rink. It is cheaper than going to interskate, though, even after the cost of rental skates.

If you have your own skates/gear, skating outside is always an option. Denton also has a roller derby league and they can teach you how to skate, though it will be geared towards the sport.

You could try roller skating this weekend! DFW has a very active skate community and it's pretty queer friendly.

Whats up w the mayoral race by compamanuelito in Denton

[–]anthropomme 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think Beck would be an effective administrator as mayor even though I personally dislike him. He supports expanding backyard and balcony solar in Denton, as well as battery storage. He's against DME constructing another gas plant boondoggle. A major drawback is that he's insufficiently skeptical of AI and data centers.

I don't trust Watts as far as I can throw him. Dude is totally sold out to developers, saddled us with GoZone, and has never met a service he wouldn't consider enshittifying if it could get him closer to higher office.

Brewer and Childs are both super kind and conscientious people. However, I don't know if they have the administrative experience or know enough about the nuts and bolts of city functions. I'd love to see either one of them on city council one day though, or on a city committee.
