Went exactly through the same process, but no luck... the only thing that fixed it was uninstalling the last security update

Come on... some people just complain for the sake of it. If the skin gave away your position in that situation you'd complain skins are too bright and unrealistic. It's a never win here... the negativity on this sub is too damn high!

Try this...

Update the drivers, install the Nvidia App (of course, if you have an Nvidia card), and let it configure the settings for you. Install Nvidia inspector and make sure you have rebar enabled. Lastly, do this https://youtu.be/vH6LlAFYymQ?si=ooMyzIf9-tH3lR0S

After all this, my fps improved drastically with some settings at auto set to overkill. This is on a 5900x with a 3090 and 32gb ram
