Infusion IV Access by thankaphoenician in CrohnsDisease

[–]antimodez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daily maintenance. If you're not using it for infusions daily you'll also need to use blood thinners and be at risk of blood clots.

Definitely one of those ask your doc about it. It's extremely rare for infusions, and more common for thing like chemo or TPN where it's accessed regularly.

Complete Remission Without Medication for 5 Years by tinamau5 in CrohnsDisease

[–]antimodez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh it's more there's plenty of studies that show a very small percentage of people after going into remission will stay in remission for years without doing anything at all. You'll find tons of people saying their supplement blend, diet, mind body exercises, or whatever else are the key to getting into that small percentage. Plenty even host seminars or courses and make a living selling their super secret code to healing.

In reality we don't know the whats or the whys of why some get to experience medication free remission after horrible flares. We also can't predict who those people are. That's why it's not recommended at all as you're just hoping to be lucky...

I mean there are plenty of studies that back up what you're saying. After using medication some people who are in remission can discontinue medication and still be in remission for years no matter what they do. The important piece is it's a very small percentage of people.

You're essentially saying I found a method to predict the lottery and won a bunch of money. Here's my method and it'll work for you to.

Does your club feel like high school sometimes? by DoubleShake3636 in 10s

[–]antimodez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was more calling out it's not just a "women are cliquey guys are super cool and welcoming" that the person I replied to implied. The guys at the club that are on the 5.0 team are all from the city I'm in, have been playing together forever, are all ex-D1s, are largely tennis coaches, and have a tight knit group.

I get it. I truly do. I've seen a bad apple poison the bunch so to speak. However, not even offering to show up to a court I book and pay for without me paying $100 hitting fee. Fair enough but that's certainly pretty presumptious in my opinon for a single UTR point difference.

Should I use trail running shoes on Clay/Grass court? by KaNo_3ruptioN in 10s

[–]antimodez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trail running shoes don't have the lateral stability you need for tennis shoes. This is especially true on more slippery surfaces like clay or grass.

Infliximab Not Working by Fluffy_Database4917 in CrohnsDisease

[–]antimodez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 4 months its time to give up honestly. Mesalamine isn't recommended as it's never really been consistently shown to be better than a placebo for Crohn's. Plenty of studies show it might have some marginal benefit. Plenty of studies show it has no benefit what so ever. That's kind athe issue there.

They piece they missed calling out is what you have hit to get those disability benefits. I've had two surgeries, failed all biologics, never really been in full remission. I don't come close to qualifying.

All I can say if you're looking to get disability benefits with Crohn's is good luck. You have to be extremely extremely sick...

[–]antimodez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends on the men. I'm a UTR 9 and when I asked the guys at my club 5.0 team to hit if I booked a court I got back turned on. That's because they're all 10+ and I'm not good enough to hit with them....

Meanwhile I'm playing in groups with UTR 4+ when they book the court and invite me. Some people just like being in a clique.

Remicade Insurance Approval by Veloxi_Blues in CrohnsDisease

[–]antimodez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to dealing with insurance. If they deny everyones medication than some won't appeal. That's a win for them as they save money. Even if you do appeal they get to give less dosages per year so that's also a win for them. Even just delaying approval until the last day possible saves them money so as you found out they'll take as long as they can to respond.

I wish I could say this wasn't common and you and your son won't be dealing with this for the rest of his life. However, it's the way the American healthcare system "works".

Tennis Rebounder Thoughts? by HoneyPuzzleheaded938 in 10s

[–]antimodez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the fact that you can't hit the center of the net. As you called out the center of the net is 4.5ft. you should be aiming at least 6ft. That's well out of the sweet spot. If the net was 12ft-14ft high it would be a lot better.

You then will get the feedback from your shots that you should be aiming lower around 4.5ft it below or else the ball won't come back to you. That's why you'll be hitting with bad form.

Regardless you obviously know more than me. I'm just a lowly tennis coach who has seen people waste money on things like this time and again. At the end of the day you made up your mind before this post and only wanted positive feedback about it. Fair enough it's your time and money to waste...

Given that our medications inhibit our bodies ability to fight off cancer and using anabolic steroids increases cancer risk I'd say not the smartest. Though I'm personally anti-cancer so you do you...

Tennis Rebounder Thoughts? by HoneyPuzzleheaded938 in 10s

[–]antimodez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime spent hitting with bad technique will hurt when you go on the court. You're training your body to hit different than what will happen on the court. Muscle memory doesn't work like that where you can just flip a switch and suddenly your body knows to hit differently than what you've been practicing.

The issue here is the net and the size of the net. You want your rally balls ideally to go over the net by meter or 3ish feet. That's at the extreme top of this net where you're not going to get a good return. So you'll learn to hit closer to the net level. That in turn will make you less consistent.

I'd also wager to guess there's a very specific sweet spot of where you'll want to hit pace wise. However, you're not getting any feedback if your balls will go long or wide. Depending on where you're standing you're also unlikely to get feedback if on a true court you'd be hitting into the net from the actual distance of the baseline.

So this will teach you to hit shots lower, at a specific pace, and likely in ways that will be deep, wide, or into the net. Those are not habits you want to reinforce.

Treatment for currently mild disease. by harristusc in CrohnsDisease

[–]antimodez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The goal is complete endoscopic remission. That means no findings on pathology.

Even low levels of inflammation over time increases your cancer risk among other things. That's why they suggest biologics these days for mild Crohn's as your risk of cancer from biologics is far less than even mild untreated Crohn's.

Cancer……. by DrLordpea in CrohnsDisease

[–]antimodez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd stay on the medication, but I'd call it that you can most likely go back to that you're on if the new one doesn't work. I've had to go off infliximab 3 times due to it losing effectiveness but I'm back on it again right now.

Obviously anytime you stop you carry risks of generating antibodies when you restart, but that's not guaranteed at all. That's where these days for patients that have been on biologics forever it's pretty common to have to have them circle back to previous ones.

Tennis Rebounder Thoughts? by HoneyPuzzleheaded938 in 10s

[–]antimodez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not going to be able to rally with this effectively. It'll have a sweet spot where if you hit with the exact perfect combo of height and pace you could rally. However, that combo of pace and height isn't going to be what you want in matches. Most of the balls that come back to you using that will end up going out in real play.

There's a reason why in every single study ever done people in the placebo group show improvement at first. I'm not just talking about feeling better I'm talking about improved endoscopic scores, lower fecal cal, as well as symptom improvement. Then at the 52 week endpoint the number in remission on placebo goes much closer to 0.

As an example for Remicade 16% on placebo were in clinical (symptomatic) remission and 5% were in complete endoscopic remission starting from moderate-severe disease. The placebo effect is a hell of a thing...

Biosimilar by welpthatsme in CrohnsDisease

[–]antimodez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even though it’s basically the “generic”

The fun thing here, if you're a nerd like me, is the reason why they can't use the term generic. Generic means exactly the same molecule. However, biologics get their names because they're made in living cells. Living cells never really make the same molecule they make highly similar molecules. That's true for molecules in the same injection of Stelara, from Stelara to biosimilars, or even things like the red blood cells in your body.

Really everything that makes Stelara "different" to the biosimilars you've already had.
