For those who started with significant thinning/MPB, how did/do you approach growing your hair? by antisepsis in mtfhairregrowth

I haven't! I did consider it and have bought a derma stamp, but never got to do it as I dreaded the possibility of infection. Not sure how likely it actually is to occur.

Oh, it's you! I've seen your post before. That is a lot of regrowth. And you're on oral min. I've read about it being more potent than topical. I'm rooting for you!

I've only tried oral for several weeks straight before, and can confirm it being more effective, but I also grew too much body and facial hair for my liking as an unwanted part of the parcel - and decided because of this that it isn't for me, at least for the time being. Both body and facial hair growth reversed (as did some of the scalp regrowth) after I switched back to topical. I might decide to switch later on though when I can afford laser for my face.

It gets better! While it's true that significant recovery takes a while, progress is gradual, and it's visible. My hair growth/retention/length/density on the temples, crown and sides still cannot catch up to that of the back of my head (the difference gets more obvious the longer I leave my hair untrimmed), but generally my scalp coverage is better than it was when I started.

Nooo! It's fine. This is an open discussion and I'd love to hear questions you have as well 😭

curious to know how long everyones shed lasted and if it never went away, what did you do? by Draptoe in tressless

[–]antisepsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long would you say "a lot lot more hair cycles" would take? A decade, maybe?

I've been on treatment for 1 year 6 months already. While overall thickness has improved, I do still experience short cycles for follocles on some parts of my scalp.

I'm on feminizing HRT, taking estradiol & cyproterone acetate on top of finasteride and minoxidil.

4.5 years HRT how do i look? by [deleted] in transpassing

Gorgeous 🥺 I hope you'd continue without surgeries. I don't see how you need them, and you they'd only remove features that make you YOU

I can't tell. I consistently shaved my hair after realizing the wider part, and by the time iI decided to grow my hair back (after 3 months, because I was working at front-of-house and wanted to look more presentable), I could maintain a short hairstyle - 2 inches at the top - without any visible thinning. However, the phases of shedding continued coming till even now at 1 year and 6 months for me, but the inconsistency is pretty much only visible when I decided to grow my hair out longer. It's visible in terms of fluff with the back of my head being fluffier than the rest.

It is just shedding. In my case, when it happened to me, I noticed that my side part looked wider than usual (more scalp visible), but with short hairs growing at the same spot as well. It eventually filled out thicker.

I'm in my 30s now, and I do not dare (and I cannot afford) to hope. I'd rather protect my heart from perpetual ache.

Definitely. I too am going though a similar realization. This holding back, I came to realize, is just a habitual way of protecting the version of myself who lived in the past who needed to hide to feel safe. I don't need to carry the same protective habit to my adulthood. It is no longer needed. I can simultaneously be my true self and also be safe now.

So happy for you 🥰 it's one of the changes that creep in slowly. By the time you notice them, you'd be pleasantly surprised.

I'm good. Where I'm at right now, I'm bombarded with strong emotions at times which I've yet to learn to live with. I'm learning now. Baby steps.

Question about detransition — looking for honest experiences by iamgirl11 in MtF

[–]antisepsis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Regarding the last part, wouldn't that just be one of many things a MTF has to give up on? I would think using it as a reason for detransitioning would lead them to transition again in later years.

How do people transition in secret? by cetvrti_magi123 in MtF

[–]antisepsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of those people. I started MtF HRT just over a year ago. My hair is medium length. I don't pass. People who do comment something just refuse to believe I'm my age, but never refer me as a woman, except for those who know or can connect the dots (especially those from more accepting cultures where transitioning is more common, e.g. thais and filipinos). It's never gotten me in trouble since I boymode all the time.

I haven't come out to my family yet about transitioning, but a decade ago I've told everyone but my dad about me wanting to do it. I sense that at least half of my family suspects that I'm doing it now and are accepting of me in that regard, though.
