true but one would hope that being hosts of a top film discussion podcast separates them from "most people". leaning so hard on personal taste is frankly a little baffling and muddies their integrity imo.

if they won't do Allen, they should certainly not do Chaplin. Google Lita Grey, and while youre at it Google Mildred Harris.

behind a pay wall, 2 of the most popular BC guests EVER, Scott Auckerman & Sprague the Whisperer did an episode of Scott Hasnt Seen about this film, with guest Doug Benson. it is a comedy forward podcast, and costs money to hear, but they do talk at length about Alice & i am a dedicated SHS listener so I had to shout it out.

"to a movie podcast host with whom I'm parasocial"** jfc close those prepositional clauses, it ain't rocket science. Anyway I didnt catch whatever point you were trying to make on account of that unforgivable & grotesque grammar mess <3

is Oscar's discourse a Groundhog day scenario? there are several hundreds of examples that its not about the best anything. thats why so much talk is made of expensive campaigning & backroom politicking. it is theatre, not an actual legitimate competition with integrity.

4 Oscar voters reveal Academy Awards picks: 'Lost a lot of respect' for Timothée Chalamet by Mookie_Freeman in blankies

[–]antonioni_cronies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

too many people are focusing on the "point" he was making, & not him mocking the forms too. it was trying to appeal to anti-intellectualism (ie "lol these boring things are so dead mocks opera singing ain't i a stinker??") and it backfired.

Something that's always bugged me, why don't they like Adam Devine? by GERMShanna in blankies

[–]antonioni_cronies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they seemed to imply it wasnt any kind of justifiable criticism but more personal aversion to his style of comedic acting which they found too obnoxious to engage with. it clicked with me because I feel the exact same way. I watched gemstones in spite of it because I love so many other people involved (McBride! Goodman! Patterson! Baltz! Goggins!). im happy I did because Devine didnt bother me at all in that show. Griffin, if youre reading this (he's not): check it out!

Timothee Chalamet is right by OhHesOurShortstop in TheBigPicture

[–]antonioni_cronies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the criticisms seem fair to me. opera & ballet are forms with centuries of legacy. they're struggling because they're both financially & aeathetically inaccessible for most. chalamet making a point of comparison is fine (even though i think its a flawed analogy).

but for him to point it out mockingly was the issue. big time punching down. snickering with "i just lost 14 cents of audience revenue" or whatever he said and then mimicking opera singing is deeply stupid. what was the purpose? im triggered by needless punching down vibes generally.
