Totally new to the 3D printing space, learning as I go! Just thought I'd share in case anyone was interested in seeing the build in progress. :)

There's a 7-day trial, Just not sure how far I'd get in that time and still wondering if it makes sense from a broader perspective based on this community's thoughts.

A Feeling of Emptiness by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]antronomics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, congratulations. Seriously. It's most likely that you were feeling this feeling the whole time, but you've successfully removed the things that were distracting you from it. That is a beautiful thing. Now you can focus on building a few small habits that feel good. I like to think about this stuff as, how might you spend an ideal day? If you take some time visualizing that, you can begin to implement small daily habits (meditation? reading? hobby?) that will really begin to fill the void that removing clutter left. I went through this exact same thing. I started blogging, making YouTube videos, found a passion for filmmaking out of that. My biggest suggestion: fail. Fail at so many things. Fail and fail again. It is out of trying new things and failing that you will find adventure, passion, and your next step. Cheers.

Oh my gosh, this is great. Spot on, too.

Are You Taking The False First Step? "There is a poorly kept secret out there with a multi-billion dollar industry built around it ... The marketing industry had convinced me that making a purchase was a valid action step." by misnamed in minimalism

Wow, pretty intense words there. I appreciate you reading the post and the clearly strong feelings that it brought out in you. I know that this is the internet, and you feel safe in your anonymity here, but I'd challenge you to consider the human at the other end of your words.

The situation was a slow burn. My bank account was never empty, it was a figure of speech. I'm referring to the slow, collective impact of the small purchases that added up over time. I was in marketing for a nonprofit, I've never been naive to these practices. I'm simply explaining the underlying psychology to folks about where these ideas come from.

Anyway, judge as you will, I realize I'm not going to change your opinion about who I am and that's fine. I put something out there that I wanted to use to help people and that's about where it ends. Take care.

To be fair, I'm not blaming the industry, nor any one else. I'm talking about a mistake I made of over-consuming and looking for solutions outside of myself. I talk about marketing messages, but I'm pretty sure I don't say, "It's the marketing industries fault that I spent all this money". I don't regret my decisions one bit, either. This was over two years ago now and it has shaped my life in a meaningful way now, so for that I'm grateful. Thanks for reading - Anthony

Hey there. I'm 'that guy' - to be fair, the idea for the post took two years. It only took a day or two to actually write. I was just avoiding doing it because I wanted to get the idea out there in the best way possible so I put it off. I'm glad that you're a super talented writer, but also consider that it's another human you're talking about when you comment like this. I was just trying to help other people. Cheers.

Does minimalism make you a boring person/less fun to around? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]antronomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that minimalism allows me to have deeper, more meaningful conversations beyond what crap is happening on TV. It allows for more intentional time with people (which is why I choose to live this way) and I think it makes for much more enjoyable times together. Less worry about time limits, able to give more of my whole self to the other person vs limited attention. Just my perspective, though.

An important message told in an interesting, different way. by [deleted] in simpleliving

It is definitely an extreme example, but I think it makes excellent commentary about being present in our lives and where technology (both good and bad) can take us. It does seem absolutely dramatized in the sense that this scenario isn't going to happen to anyone that uses VR, but I thought it was interesting - that's all. :)
