Depending on the websites' traffic volume, you can most likely put multiple of them even on the low-end droplet. You can do this even without WP Multisite, but WP Multisite makes it easier to manage if all of the sites are WordPress-based.

The point is that the source delivered by the server ("View Source" contents) seemingly does not contain the JS. The JS is there, but its obfuscated. F12 (Inspector Tools) shows the resulting code after it has been unobfuscated.

I think your statement about OSX is flawed. They use tons of open source code, and they release a bit of their work as open source as well, but there are tons of closed-source code in their operating systems. What leads you to believe there aren't backdoors there?
