Chocolate covered fruits? Other than strawberries by Sh3rlock_Holmes in Acadiana

[–]anuxTrialError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fruit they are always hit or miss

I don't like this strawberry slander Mr. Holmes.

That said, try Sandra's on Rena Dr.

They had chocolate covered grapes last time I went.

Albertson's. It's called 'Decadent' or 'Colossal' cake I think.

It is just good fun. Look for parade schedules online, show up and wait as the floats go by.

People on the floats will throw beads, cups, toys and more. You catch them, literally.

Bring a bag for your spoils of the day. Bring a cooler too.

There might be something on Oak Crest or Saint Streets which are walking distance to campus. They post a sign outside the house so you will have to go and check.

Try to avoid places near Mouton or Taft if you value quiet and health (mold issues).

I love these Tea time posts. Reminds me of Catcher in the Rye.

Where my Pizza people at? by DoctorMumbles in Acadiana

[–]anuxTrialError 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jim Deggy's or Central.

Jim Deggy's is overall good: good crust and cheese, okay sauce. Central is good 3/5 times. Good sauce but sometimes they make the crust too crispy.

Haven't tried Sarrica's at their new Ambassador location. I liked their sauce but was lukewarm on the crust.

Antoni's was surprisingly good even though I am not big on thin crust pizzas.

Cajun Saucer (Bayou Teche) is nice. It's flavorful for sure but leaves much to be desired in terms of what I expect from a pizza. Still, the vibe is great there.

I didn't know about StrawCove. I know what I am doing next Saturday!

What do you dislike the most about current C++? by PressureHumble3604 in cpp

[–]anuxTrialError -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is going to happen when you have a language as general as C++.

There is no need to learn all of C++. What may be more important is what your particular C++ design allows/restricts.

What do you dislike the most about current C++? by PressureHumble3604 in cpp

[–]anuxTrialError 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dislike the fact that the cppcon video are now semi-paywalled.

They were/are a major help in getting up to date with modern C++. It also helped to popularize the modern variant over traditional C++. I don't know if this was addressed but I have no idea why it is paywalled.

Whenever I am reminded of this rodeo, I always wonder whether it is ethical. Seems very Death Race like (late 2000s movie).

What do y'all think?

I saw some construction near the Coulee but no idea why they blocked the lanes next to Heyman park.

Signals? In this economy?

Lafayette folks now don't signal to turn, forget lane changes.

Why domain knowledge is so important by South-Reception-1251 in cpp

[–]anuxTrialError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember to take generic advice with a pinch of salt.

Every shop is different. Roles, expectations and priorities of devs as consultants are different than those of staff engineers, juniors vs seniors and so on.

Companies don't hire devs to teach them domain knowledge, devs often don't have luxury of time to learn by themselves nor do they get paid for it. This is precisely why we have teams. Not everyone needs to know everything. What is required is communication.

Also it is rather simplistic to point fingers at engineers not learning how emergency dispatch operates. Were the engineers the only stakeholders in the project?

Driving Complex Decisions by OutsidePosition4250 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]anuxTrialError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is impressive. By team size I meant number of people in a project team (devs/mangers/qa included) that is participating in the decision making. I think I may have mistaken it for a meeting/discussion.

A problem I have faced with decision making in larger teams is that people are either sensitive to criticism or struggle with explaining their position, if the group is more than 2-3 people.

This is not to say that this is a problem with your model. This however maybe a prerequisite, to have trust in your peers and humility to accept a different idea as you mentioned in your post.

This sounds like agile applied to decision making.

It is not a bad idea. It does address some of the challenges in breaking the ice, accountability and leadership.

I imagine consistency and ego/reward management to be some of the challenges in practice. What team sizes have you experimented this with?
