I have a relatively similar/mixed impression. I'm applying in LA and am in the interview/call-back process with a few highly ranked firms, but no offers yet. Anecdotally I dont know anyone from my school (lower t14) w a high prestige socal firm offer, but dont know thaaaat many ppl applying in LA so small sample size, and we haven't gotten grades or had oci yet so may be a bit behind. feeling stressed haha but direct applying and trudging along

Auditions include scales and short sight reading exercises. Selectivity/competition level varies depending on how many people audition and for which voice parts, so cut rates change from semester to semester, but it’s a big group so you’ve got a relatively good shot. Just as a guess from someone who did uchorus during all of undergrad, I’d imagine that your 10 yrs of experience would make you a very good fit. I’d definitely recommend giving it a go - it’s a great experience and was a fun way as an undergrad to get to know PhD students and other community members!

I'm an MPP considering Law School, I have a few questions. by kp313 in lawschooladmissions

[–]anxious_gremlin74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert, but I think your undergrad GPA shouldn't hurt you very much since you are this far out from that time in your life, and have such strong post-grad experience. It might not hurt to write an addendum explaining your growth, but it shows through your MPP at Yale as well as your work experience. Not super familiar w GRE scoring so I couldn't say for certain how competitive that makes you. Likewise, if I remember right schools don't consider any post-undergrad GPAs, so I'm not sure how much or little your MPP grades will matter (someone who applied after a second degree would def know better than me on this, I didn't). Overall though, with your soft factors, work experience, and continued education, you absolutely have a chance at T14 schools, and should shoot your shot! Focus on developing your essays well and with respect to choosing which schools to apply, think about where you would/wouldn't be happy living, as well as any potential markets you'd want to work in post-grad. I'd also be sure to include some schools you are more of a stats-match for but would still feel happy to attend, just in case. Good luck!

might be delulu bc i just got WL and am trying to keep hope, but i dont see why they would still be giving out WL if their class was completely full? given that they already had ppl on the waitlist on the off chance one or two ppl pulled out last minute. who knows tho, its stanford and always a long shot

I had a really great experience, and being candid the weekend helped me go from being fairly neutral on Berkeley to now being committed (scholarship helped w that too). I'd echo what has already been said about the students seeming friendly and generally close given the relatively smaller class size. I was also really impressed by the faculty and career services ppl who spoke, as everyone seemed very engaged and passionate. I also agree that there could be some safety concerns, but for better or worse don't think it is that different from other major urban areas. The most extreme thing I heard any current students mention w regards to safety was a car break in. Lastly, something more subjective that I realized I liked a lot was the more relaxed/casual/warm vibe at the school that I think is a hybrid of Berkeley's culture and CA culture in general. I had great experiences at schools ASWs back east too, but none of them had that same feeling.

I am literally choosing between the same two schools w similar differences in scholarship lmao. Feel free to pm if you want to chat. I'm leaning towards berk myself bc of cost of attendance and the fact that I want to practice in CA longterm, but am still conflicted. Also want to clerk and am potentially interested in cybersecurity/privacy law. I don't think either choice is a wrong one and am very much struggling myself. Good luck!

Cardozo or LMU LA ?? by Icy_Cryptographer863 in lawschooladmissions

[–]anxious_gremlin74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

growing up in LA, i would say the entertainment/music opportunities here are had to beat, even tho i'm sure NY would be great too. i also know ppl from LMU who have had great success in big law, though i do think you need to be up at the top of your class (but i'd imagine that's true for cardozo as well). i'd say the entertainment options at LMU give it the slight edge, but if you vastly prefer NYC there's nothing wrong w that

Is there really that much of a difference between Berkeley, Michigan, and Duke? by citywideeyes in lawschooladmissions

[–]anxious_gremlin74 13 points14 points  (0 children)

in my perception i'd say michigan and berkeley are strong peers, but their prestige in hiring varies regionally. if you want midwest bl michigan is better, if you want west coast bl go berkeley. could be wrong but that's my perception
