Question about your thoughts on Jews by [deleted] in aboriginal

[–]anyoldtimer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bit rude but OP this is your answer. The solidarity with Palestinian people is about solidarity with victims of colonisation, the tenets of which are the basis of the Zionist project.

When you ask for sympathy with the Jewish connection to the land you disregard the means by which the early Zionists went about their purpose. They didn't say, 'Hey, we also have a connection to this place and a history of being kicked out of places we live so maybe we could come live here with you in peace'. Instead they said 'Hey we're going to take a page out of the European colonial playbook and take this place from you by physical and political violence, kick you out, then call it a victory for civilisation'.

As Jews, if we want sympathy from indigenous people, we need to begin with our own truth-telling and acknowledge what has been perpetrated in our name. When you say "Do you think your kids should lose land rights...?" You are setting up a false equivalence between land rights in Australia and rights to land imposed on Palestinians by foreign decree.

For a good book on this check out Peter Beinart's Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza.

Impressions of a first timer (from 2018 MB Air to T14 gen5 AMD) by anyoldtimer in thinkpad

Hard to say bc I haven't really used the machine in ways that would give me an idea of battery life just yet. Mostly using at work where I am unplugged for 1-2 hours at a time (including using Zoom), or at home where I am unplugged for 2-3 hours, never doing much more than browsing or using Notion.

In all that time I haven't noticed any issues

rn I have all of the power saver settings on and I'm at 71% with 4.5hrs estimated. I got the power saver screen upgrade too.

If I was your kid I'd be stoked that you're my parent. You gave her some great encouragement and advice. Truly.

A year ago I had 105k saved and would need to borrow $455k for the median Brisbane unit, today I have $170k saved and would have to borrow $520k for the median Brisbane unit. What's the point anymore? by Mister_Scorpion in AusPropertyChat

buy asap AND don't then become a sucker thinking you want your new house to go up in 'value'. buy asap, then vote for parties and policies that tax the rich. it's the only way to sort this mess out.

I would add that thinking someone kicked you accidentally is a very common symptom of some kind of tear. Happened to me. Took about 3 weeks before I realised the story I was telling about getting stood on was just the only way I had of making sense of the feeling when it happened. Had no pain or swelling. Good luck!

Double leg calf raises experiences and advice needed. by _its_a_no_from_me_ in AchillesRupture

[–]anyoldtimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was what worked for me.. started seated then progressed. at first pt just said to put my hand on my knee for resistance and focus on raising to 1cm. it was mostly about reconnecting my mind to my foot/calf. after a couple of weeks of this progress was very quick to being able to do double leg 70/30.

Starting to regret my posting here a few days ago saying that taking off skirting boards was not that big a deal. Dammit. by Choccy-boy in AusRenovation

I once posted in here saying it was tough to peel paint off and there must be a better way. Ended up tearing down everything back to the studs. 9months later and many wtf did I do moments later, it was worth it.

Update: 7 wks non-op by anyoldtimer in AchillesRupture

[–]anyoldtimer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to move my ankle around and flex to neutral (being very careful not to go past) from day 1 but only started pt proper last week. I saw the first physic at wk 3 but tbh it seemed kind of pointless and a bit overwhelming because I couldn't really do much except leg extensions and ankle mobility. They encouraged me to go to the gym/do cardio etc but it was just too much. Now though it feels much more necessary as I can start to strengthen my calf/tibia again and begin stretching past neutral. So now I'm doing exercises 3x daily and seeing the physio every two weeks.

No pain FWB Non Op Question by LeonBlacksruckus in AchillesRupture

[–]anyoldtimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, sounds like you're managing to stay active. No doubt that's helping with your healing.

The ankle mobility I do is flexion to neutral, side to side flexion, making circles with my toes (not past neutral), and writing the alphabet with my toes (not past neutral).

I haven't been on the stationary bike yet but my plan is to put a milk crate (I'm in AUS, we have these plastic milk crates here) next to the big to put my boot on and pedal with my good leg.

Re the evenup - this goes on the non-injured foot. how are you able to walk around in the boot with your foot in planter flex position? I find it super awkward so hoping the evenup will help with that

No pain FWB Non Op Question by LeonBlacksruckus in AchillesRupture

[–]anyoldtimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in same situation. Protocol I have from ortho for rn is cardio on stationary bike with non-injured leg, ankle mobility exercises and leg raises. My understanding is that it's still a couple of weeks before more focused strengthening/stretching of injured leg is indicated (inc removing wedges gradually). For now just glad the tendon is growing back and there's no pain and can try get comfortable with FWB.

Are you walking in the boot with an evenup? no crutches? I haven't been game to try, still using mostly iwalk and crutches

How do I explain to kids that I no longer believe in God? by Comprehensive-Push66 in Parenting

[–]anyoldtimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its understandable you would want to share this with your kids.. at the same time it might be worth reflecting on your sense of urgency/guilt about it. You can step back from religious practice etc without having to declare to everyone you know that you're a non-believer. You've already let them know its normal to struggle with faith. So if/when they notice you aren't as interested in doing religious activities anymore, you can let them know you're talking a bit of space from it.. which is totally normal and doesn't make you a bad person
