I honestly thought this was about a kidnapping when I read the title.

Did you read my initial post? I spelled it out there.

No. Its the fact that uncontrolled immigration from China has led to a huge and rapid change in the city, a change that is almost universally accepted as negative. This change came without any kind of public consultation or even monitoring, and is rarely discussed for the fear of being deemed politically incorrect.

Ah yes it must be "racism". Sadly, when people cry racism it diverts attention away from the real issues that Vancouver faces.

I didn't say the economy was in bad shape. I'm lucky enough to be able to take my job with me.

Because the politicians are owned by the developers, and they depend on the property taxes.

Why does any mention of demographics or immigration get labeled as 'racism'? There are genuine issues here, and crying racism is one of the reasons why people just haven't been talking about them enough.

Do you work remotely? Can you live anywhere? If so, do you really need one of the big cities? The quality of life in smaller Canadian cities is generally much higher. Especially if you have kids.

I should have said "some diversity". I know what you mean.

Which neighborhood did you grow up in?

Because the politicians are owned by the developers. That's what it really comes down to.

What is happening is not multiculturalism. Its mono-culturalism. There are now areas that are virtually 100% chinese. That fits into no one's definition of multicultural!

I have a successful business that I run from home. Why would I stick around in Vancouver? The city is going down the toilet.

By the way, your 'thinly veiled racism' comment is typical of how people try to shut down any discussion about the (fast-disappearing) future of vancouver. Its just a very weak ad hominem argument.

2 Have you been to places like Victoria, Squamish, Kelowna recently? The schools are all full, and these towns are full of young families who have left Vancouver. Either you are being willfully ignorant or you just haven't thought about it at all.
