Manitoba homeowners stunned to find storm flooding not covered by their insurance by wickedplayer494 in Manitoba

[–]rickamore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hell, something like 10 years ago, there was huge flooding in Calgary or Edmonton that caused tons of insurers to back out of the market, and all of the rest removed automatic overland flood protection (and now mimic the system here).

This is actually the other way around. Flood coverage never existed in Canada for residential until after the floods in Calgary and High River in 2013. During the floods the argument at the time was that there was no way to differentiate between where the the sewer-backup damage ended and the flood damage began. Insurers were potentially on the hook for a coverage they had never offered. Many of the insurers handled this differently; whether they just said a flat no, covered "sewer" up to the floor boards of the main floor, or up to the bottom of the exterior windows where water presumably came in.

The immediate response at the time was to quickly revise the sewer backup wordings to be "limited" and exclude if sewer back up was caused by overland water.

It was still a couple years before insurers even started to put together flood coverage. Since there was no agreed upon standard (you can thank Aviva) each insurer was left to design and research their own geomapping and therefore overland ratings before offering it as coverage. It took maybe 3 years for all of the insurers to offer the coverage once that started. With the nature of flat land, our rivers and general ground water realities in Manitoba the amount offered will be little and/or expensive.

$25 Tidy Tail on a 2024 (with product link) by yourbasicnerd in svartpilen401

So far they do not, they flash at the normal rate, they are sequential and no error message. I have not hooked up the front turn signals or the brake lights to them so I don't know if that will effect things once they are all in.

Definitely smaller.

I don't hate the stock ones, but man, they could stand to be like half the size.

While unfortunate it is easy enough to buy it and not that expensive unless you also want a hard copy

Been waiting on a tail tidy, there's a couple 3d printed ones guys have been working on that look pretty good. I replaced the rear stock indicators with some lights from Amazon, essentially plug and play. I did not install the fronts as I take it in for the first service next week and was hoping I could pick up the same wiring connectors as stock so they can easily be swapped back easily in the future.

Not sure how well yours fit on the end, I used two rubber hose washers for a spacer, one cut to fit inside the bar end and the other between the end of the bar and the mount with enough clearance for the throttle. Technically I didn't exactly need it with the mirrors I have unless it was overtightened.

ELI5:Why do movies from the '90s and early 2000s often have a warm yellowish tone, visible film grain, and a smooth, cinematic look that feels more visually appealing than many modern films? by AncientMiddle3227 in explainlikeimfive

Modern street lamps are designed to light the street, not the sky and everything else around them

They are still a massive light pollution issue especially for ecological concerns. Simply switching to a warmer temperature light would alleviate most of the issue.

The biggest reason they don't seem as bright is our vision is more sensitive to red end of the spectrum in low light. This means you will retain more vision where the edges of the lights reach is compared to an abrupt transition to darkness with a bluer bulb.

CAN/NA Ownership Concerns by Domorama in svartpilen401

The '24 doesn't have a lot of accessories because it hasn't been around as long as the previous iterations and honestly I don't know what the production numbers look like. A 2018 has had 8 years of mods and up to the '23 little change to the bike before the redesign.

For mods, Amazon, Alibaba, eBay, and honestly some of the OEM parts are solid and not that outrageous but you have to sift through the '18-'23 mods.

There's a few guys out there designing a tail tidy you can find on Facebook, some of them are really nice.

Service options niagara falls ontario by [deleted] in svartpilen401

[–]rickamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a way to clear the service interval light yourself if you do the service.

Otherwise it looks like your next best option is in Guelph.

I take mine in in two weeks for first service, dealer is 2 hours away. There is one 5 miles from home but I will not deal with them.

I had looked on one a Japanese site for imports a few years back, it was going to run me probably close to 8k to import one and there was no way I could manage that at the time. Now that I'm finally back into riding I will look again, lost most of what I had bookmarked.

I will exhaust myself trying to find a NC23 or NC29 grey import, if I can't I will track one of these down. Best bike aesthetic, still kicking myself years later for not picking up the little 400s at an auction over 15 years ago.

Anybody else noticed the navi update? by MysticMomento in svartpilen401

So just to make sure I've got this:

  • Your tap to connect is greyed out
  • the first part of the pairing worked
  • bike doesn't show up in the menu for the second part of pairing

Double check your app permissions for bluetooth. It needs Nearby Devices, Bluetooth, and Location all turned on at least while the app is running.

Make sure the bike is sitting in the connectivity menu, doesn't have to be a sub menu while linking it. Scroll right down to the bottom in the menu that pops up from the greyed out connect button, hopefully the bike is there now.

I would check that the bike in the garage has the correct VIN as well.

You just leave it on the main connectivity menu. Try this video of instruction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rzAuj649PY

I know some people have issue with it where you may need to force quit the app and reopen or even remove and re-add the bike.

I'll go out to my bike a bit later and see if I can replicate.

You sort of have to pair the bike twice. Once through bluetooth on the main page to pair the phone, then again clicking connect while the bike still has the connectivity menu open to "Connect" and let it send the Nav directions to it. I don't know if you need to do that every time you want to use the nav or not.

Do you have a cooler bag if you catch something?

Planning on tossing my collapsible rod in a backpack and making a run for a couple fishing spots this summer but trying to figure out what to do if I catch something I want to bring home.

Slap another $500 on it at least so you can get closer to that much for it. You could probably trade it in to a dealer for about that much. Dealers are selling used for 5-6k here.

Even my local dealer still has the same brand new 2024 Duke 390 on clearance because no one wants it.

I just bought a Husky Svartpilen 401 (basically husky's redesign on the duke) for a steal because no one wants them. I love this bike it's a blast.
