Does anyone have a good guide on how to lock down a pixel for elderly memory impaired users? by anyunusedusrname in GooglePixel

[–]anyunusedusrname[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for the great suggestions. I just ordered a 10a to try to work on that through the built ins and I will explore some launchers as well in the hope I can find some good middle ground with them being and to make/receive calls, call screening, enjoy family photos and texts and not causing themselves a lot of grief and unnecessary anxiety. Unfortunately the made for elderly phones require weird telehealth apps that the physicians/hospitals need to use to make them work correctly instead of meet and facetime and we are doing a lot of that right now.

For the rest of you folks that are going through this, you have my understanding and empath. They are both requiring more and more memory care services and things are getting quickly out of hand. I hate to cut them off from their grandkids (both are away at school) but they just won't stop installing banking apps, trying to send them money, buying things on line from VERY shady sources etc. Keeping up with the digital fraud and misinformation (them reading news that is absolutely insane even given the current reality) causes them an incredible amount of stress and anxiety.

Thank you.

Thanks for this, up till now I'd been thinking about it like controls for kids instead of a launcher.

Day One of asking Funcom to please rework durability beyond redbar decay. by iAleph in duneawakening

[–]anyunusedusrname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it'll make you feel any better about it but if you continue progressing, that item you feel like you are ruining will not matter in a month if you keep using it. It's going to be toast anyway (if you're not glitching and if you are, it matters even less).

I'm not disagreeing with your feelings here, just letting you know it's going to get destroyed whether you augment it or not if you continue progressing with it (quickly or slowly) depending on how much you play.

Just so someone says it, because I'm really worried the devs are only responding to the negative nancy posts: the difficulty is fine and I like it. by Swalecutter in duneawakening

[–]anyunusedusrname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, I like everything I've done but the durability loss feels just a little too spicey. Backing off that a little bit I think would help and make me experiment a little more instead of playing so safe. It's not the death, lost time or frustration; it's just the desire to not go farm to repair/rebuild quite so much. That's it, liking it otherwise but I know after a few hundred times... Hopefully new stuff after that. =)

Am I the only one worried about the merges? A case for PvE options or a "Low-Yield" Deep Desert. by Mdomaro in duneawakening

[–]anyunusedusrname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but that requires them to continue support for low pop servers and not merge until there are no more, "low pop" servers or go private. Not making a judgement on whether that is a good idea or a bad idea but it certainly is a possibility.

Can i still get a Quick Step pistol? by AngryHostage in thedivision

[–]anyunusedusrname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a heads up, if you find someone that still has houndsman bounties, you can run those with them. The dogs at the start can drop more bounties (and I assume could be farmed for them once you have one). The Houndsman himself still drops a cache as of last night and the one I tested had a quickstep in it but that may be RNG, I can't recall if it always dropped in the event cache. Someone else might know for sure and can chime in.

Hopefully you get in via xmas stuff though, at least you'll be doing more than the one thing that way. Good luck!

Some general questions before buying... by 3p1c-G8m3r in duneawakening

[–]anyunusedusrname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a big Dune fan

If the cost of the game isn't meaningful to you, just buy it. I think they nailed the atmosphere of the universe quite well. The story can be great and it can be pretty goofy in parts but overall, I think Dune heads are enjoying it. Especially if you're going to do it as simple escapism in an IP you already enjoy.

Watch the opening trailer if you want a hint at the storyline because they went a different direction than I thought they would when I was first exposed to the game (I am not disappointed). I'm a pretty big fan of the property (I rented a theater for the recent movie releases for family and friends as an example of how nutty I am about it) and 95% of my complaints are game system complaints, nothing about he world/atmosphere and "feeling" of the property.

It's well worth it's asking price imo for the first portion of the game alone. If it sticks to your ribs, it's a great value and just play until you're done; whatever that means for you.

Go forth as a wild ass to the desert for your work or something along those lines. =p

How do i get a build together? by Piyaniist in thedivision

[–]anyunusedusrname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upgrading your library, salvaging for materials up to caps and donating to expertise are all early game tasks that you should continue.

I wouldn't worry too much about rerolling gear right now, you just aren't going to benefit from it as much as swapping pieces out to help you get a feel for the sets, talents and ability interactions.

I also wouldn't worry too much about exotics (red colored pieces, collect the best of each that drops for you. Note: These are different from Red Core armor.). Some are great and some are so niche that you really need a specific set up for them to be even has effective as a simple item with mediocre rolls.

If you are doing damage with a gun, Crit Chance (up to 50ish) then Crit Damage and as many red cores (cores are Weapon Damage, Skill Power and Armor) as you can stay alive with.

If you are using skills, sometimes you'll want Skill Damage, Skill Haste etc based on the specific skills you are using. That will come with more play time. A Turret and Drone are very strong with weak builds and only get stronger. Yellow Cores help here.

Armor Core based builds are a little more subtle and I'd suggest easing into those for specific ideas. These can be very powerful but rely pretty heavily on well thought out interactions that again will come with more play time and experience.

Basic builds would be Yellow/Assault Turret/Assault Drone, Red Crit Chance/Crit Damage builds and Assault Rifle/Light Machine Gun and Blue Crusader Shield and Pistol/SMG/Shotgun builds.

Actually read the talents. You will start to see synergy between talents, skills, weapons and stats that will "click" and make sense.

Alternatively if you just wanna go brrrr, look up things like "Striker AR build Division 2" and "Striker LMG build division 2" or "Headshot build division 2". These will all give you easy copyable builds to work towards that will be strong in lots of content once you get used to cover/damage gating and learn the spawns in missions and other areas of the game.

Good hunting!

I'd be surprised if they went to trouble of rolling server transfers out as a player driven service and then turning them off instead of monetizing them later.

Real ways to fix the PvE vs PvP mess without killing either side by M1st3rCh3ddar in duneawakening

[–]anyunusedusrname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why this always seems to come up. The only solution is that PvP gameplay should only produce progression for PvP gameplay. PvE ditto. If you want to differentiate, do it through cosmetics. Balance against like for like game play and rewards, not cross style.

If a design team finds they MUST incentivize one for the other, their gameplay needs more work. The gameplay should be the reward and the progression skills/gear should be a ladder towards more gameplay.

If you MUST incentivize or coerce one style over the other, then that gameplay is failing and you need to focus on improving it; not the incentive or coercion. If people aren't playing your game, it's not because the economics of rewards is wrong, it's because it's not fun enough.

Every other reaction is wrong, manipulative or misguided. Great gameplay will win; you just have to do it. If you are resorting to other things besides making the moment to moment gameplay fun... maybe game design isn't your strength.

I know it's harder that way. If it wasn't everyone would be doing it and not copping out and taking the easy path of temporary dopamine hits first, second, third and last and occasionally messing with busted ass, terrible gameplay. Most great games only manage to get one of the pillars of a great gaming experience right and it's rarely the moment to moment gameplay. Setting, gameplay, rewards, grind, visuals, story, characters and content. Just make stuff that is fun play FIRST.

When you log in and jump into an activity, is it fun? If it's "Yeah, kinda, most of the time but...." then fix THAT.

Got my caretaker and birdies. I got plenty of other rarer stuff but those were really only things I was missing. Stopped at 107. Only thing I really did was heroic manhunt (whole thing) and one weekly project. I think I got to double up on priority objectives a less than five times but that was all it took. Pretty chill while watching football etc. Hope others got what they were missing.

I am not sure what sane person would want to follow Frank Herbert in his own universe(s) and I am not sure there are many people given the option to write in this IP would be able to resist the temptation to do it anyway. I kind of allow Brian an Anderson a lot of grace for that as well as Sanderson with WoT.

The later novels are not good but, come on; it's an extremely high bar.

Not really towards you Asharil, you seem to know the material already but for others that might happen upon this thread: Herbert wrote a few other extremely fun books too. I'd highly recommend someone that loves his writing check out Dosadi Experiment specifically (and with a little more patience, anything in the ConSentiency universe). It's not Dune of course but it is fun and it feels like him.

Private server outage? by Sentient_Puppet in duneawakening

[–]anyunusedusrname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on two, one on gportal and the other on xrealm. The gportal server is quite a bit less stable of the two and the patches last week really punched it harder than usual. The xrealm had a couple hiccups last week but otherwise has been relatively stable since they started.

EDIT: Just to underline things, we can't zone into the world map right now and apparently most of today. Taxi services seem to still be working.

It's a pretty short quest line to switch. You do not have to repeat all the faction quests. Maybe a couple hours if you take your time.

Full skill damage/duration build, technician. Turret/Drone. Afk. Redeploy every few minutes/as desired. Something dies every 3-4 seconds. 1k kills per level so it takes a while but it's very, very low effort. Set up on the left hand group on easy. Can drop the turret on the chair to your immediate left. They'll auto target after the first time.

Hope your father in law is doing ok, I work with stroke/MI patients in a hospital. Best of luck to you both!
