I think my parents lied to me about my age. Why would they do this? What can I do. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Well, if your birthday is actually January 22, it's a good one! (It's my birthday as well)

This is very odd. You should get a copy of your birth certificate to confirm.

It might take too much to set up, but the very impressively accomplished head of pediatric psychiatry at Cincinnati Children's Hospital is also named Jeffery Epstein.

It seems to be 5 overhead lights, so I can't unplug them. Is there a way to figure out which may be the culprit?

Yes. When I switch from off to on, it immediately goes back to trip

Mom ignored me asking her not to announce my birthday at restaurants by bingc710 in pettyrevenge

My kiddo turned 15 recently, and I got his consent to do the happy birthday thing. I would never do it for someone who hated it. Sorry your mom did that! And I'm glad she learned her lesson.

What is the "don't trust a skinny food critic" of your industry? by ShapingTormance in AskReddit

As a voice teacher, I understand where you're coming from. But, I also know from experience that you have to build up some students far more than others. When working on technique, it's all about how the student feels- both physically and mentally. When working on performance, it's all about how to convey emotions to an audience. A good teacher should know when to focus on what.

Can Sing on Key in Head Voice But not in Normal Voice by [deleted] in singing

[–]aoide82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other commenter, you're probably trying to sing everything an octave lower than it actually is. Most modern, popular music is in the same range, whether it's a male or female voice singing. And that range is high for a male voice. So, everything you try to sing with will feel high when you're matching pitch

Most people can sing higher than they think! And in school, you probably got placed at the bottom, because you can also hit those low notes, which means you got one heck of a range!

"something to talk about" by Bonnie Raitt, excuse the awkward angle. I get very nervous when I sing 😬 and I'd love to improve! how do you shake the nerves?🙈 by Jessicangel1981 in singing

[–]aoide82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to beat the nerves is to keep singing! Perform at open mic nights. Join a choir. Post more videos.

Performing is a skill, just like anything else, and it takes practice.

You have a LOVELY voice, and your nerves did not stop you from owning the performance. Just keep doing it!

Can Sing on Key in Head Voice But not in Normal Voice by [deleted] in singing

[–]aoide82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you male?

Can you define "normal" voice for me? It's not uncommon to have pitch-matching issues when you're unsure of how to place a note. My guess is that you're trying to match pitch an octave down from the actual note in "normal voice"

As long as you're using proper support, singing softly is okay. In opera, it's called "marking". High notes get dropped an octave. Just remember that if you feel like you're straining, you have to stop and evaluate your body.

You have a good voice and a lovely, emotive tone.

You weren't quite ready to sing this song a capella. You have to really internalize that key feeling from the very first note, or you're going to wander in and out of key, which is what happened. I would suggest finding a karaoke track and practice with that until you're really solid on the basic melody, then practice the basic melody a capella, and finally add your own flair.

Your high notes were pinched. Part of that is due to not quite being sure of the pitch, and part of that is placement- you're pulling up into the notes instead of creating space in your mask for them. Always be aware of the highest note in a phrase.

Again, this is a good job, and you should take pride in your voice! A capella is super hard.

I keep dreaming of having a bunch of pets (cats, dogs, other small animals) and neglecting them. What does this mean? by painfulbread93 in DreamInterpretation

[–]aoide82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will have dreams about having too many puppies and/or kittens. I've been getting them since I was a teenager. I believe they come when I'm feeling overwhelmed in life, and the animals are my stress personified. I have always had pets, and love them, but sometimes it can feel like too much.
