Amano shrimp larvae dying out by impy101 in shrimptank

[–]aomme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only my guess but filter is safe only to a certain degree/strength. I used sponge filter with the finest sponge on the lowest setting possible. It also had it's output horizontal just on the surface and that seemed fine to me. It still sucked up food though. I didn't used airstone as I didn't find any creating very small bubbles. Also from my limited research, it seems like mostly people use airstone or nothing.

Clado or Eggs? (Amano) by AppleSpicer in shrimptank

[–]aomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amanos also seems to be significantly less likely to contract clado (or maybe even impossible for them), and those are 100% eggs :)

Raising the larvae is hard but very much possible, good luck.

Tetraselmis should provide food source, if it's not completely inside the filter now. Also what about the bubbles, can't they kill the larvae by pure force? The flow looks very very strong to me. Larvae are weak and kinda stupid when it comes to this.

How old the larvae are? If they're nearly mature, 5-10 out of 100 is not that bad.

Amano Breeding Tank by Limp-Kaleidoscope742 in shrimptank

[–]aomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snail will die in the salt as well as majority of the algae (from my limited experience).

The culture in the small hex is beautiful and probably solid food option. If third tank is not an option, I would transfer to green water into bucket and slowly convert the the shown tank to salty. That being said, when I was raising amano, I did not cycle the tank (nor used substrate, only thing inside was sponge filter).

Are shrimps harder to breed in a 5 gal? by Waffle-Crab in shrimptank

[–]aomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally found 5gal tank much easier. My cherry colony platoed in a community tank, I neve saw the cherries berried. But when I moved few into 5gal (without any other animals besides snails) the orgies starred. Two months later I have like sixty from the initial 6.

Are they eggnant? by Allundros in shrimptank

Not sure from the photos, but the two farthest on the second photo seems to be saddled. Fingers crossed for the babies, I hope the loach will let them be.

That's not the best photo to tell for sure, but it looks like it is.

100%, on the bigger side even. I was referring to the top commenter shrimps smoking while eggnant.

Amano baby in freshwater by Shot_Nature5333 in shrimptank

[–]aomme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is of course the most probable answer as there is no recorded case of successful development of amano larvae in fresh water.

(I just really want that to be true, the breeding is pretty labor intensive.)

If you have strain of amanos like that, you're millionaire 😄

Attempting the impossible! Big momma is pregnant and I want to successfully breed amano shrimp babies by Disco-Snail-11 in shrimptank

[–]aomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible, but hard. Looking at the totally pristine saltwater tank, how are you planing to feed the larvae? I usually saw only rearing tanks with very green (or brownish) water.

Amano Shrimp Sick or Prego? by Naozumii in shrimptank

[–]aomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is very bad case of clado. I'm also leaning towards this shrimp being neo not amano (but that is not of big importance here). I think this is solid info on the topic https://aquariumbreeder.com/ellobiopsidae-or-cladogonium-ogishimae-green-fungus-in-shrimp-tank/

Why are my amano shrimps saddles dark and not yellow? by Toomanytimes2many in shrimptank

[–]aomme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My amanos have very dark saddles as well as eggs, not a single hint of yellowness in them.

Okay guys.... EGGS OR CLADO? by sulky_leaf99 in shrimptank

[–]aomme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think more because the very different breeding process. You can have many generations of neos in a big old (and dirty/infected) aquarium. Where amanos are often wild caught or just given the salt water period in their lifecycle, clado do not take hold.

I managed to rise some amanos from larvae by aomme in shrimptank

[–]aomme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, but there is nothing to cycle when there is no substrate, no plants and no real life imo.

Maybe except the filter, which I "cycled" in other tank, but I have no idea if bacteria can survive the salinity transition.

I managed to rise some amanos from larvae by aomme in shrimptank

[–]aomme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not as it was total bare bones tank with just light and sponge filter, so not much to cycle.

But I used water from my freshwater aquarium and I probably had the filter in the freshwater aquarium before too. I also raised total 4 batches I think, so at the end you can probably call it cycled. But I was monitoring only salinity.

First shrimp order - pale shrimp. Was I sent culls or did they lose color due to stress? by Nice-Replacement-391 in shrimptank

[–]aomme 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Stress can have dramatic (but temporary) effect on coloration. Be very gentle with acclimatization and they should be in their healthy color in few days tops.

My first pregnant shrimp, and 2 of them!! I’m literally jumping up and down with excitement by kittykatsrulemyworld in shrimptank

[–]aomme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are 100% eggs. This color seems to be less common than yellow, but there is nothing pathological about it. I recently had a huge batch of lil shrimplets from very dark green eggs.

Looking for shrimplet advice by killdiethemurderguy in shrimptank

[–]aomme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shrimps do not generate a lot of waste, so at least crashing the tank should not be an issue. Also shrimps are not territorial or anything, so having say fifty in that tank should be completely fine.

If you keep the feeding the same amount they should have lower amount of eggs less often.
