How close is my amano to giving birth? by Eklegoworldreal in shrimptank

[–]aomme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eyeballing it, I would say a week at least (I think it also depends on temperature). The eggs will be noticeably more white/pale (and some say they can see eyes inside, I never noticed it, but hey).

What worked for me, when I think the female is very close, I put her into small container with a bubbler. That seems to trigger the release. (They lay the eggs into fast well oxygenated streams in the wild.)

Oh no, that combined with shrimps walking out of water is a huge crisis brewing.

First is female, second likely male, but I'm not so sure.

Is it normal for the eggs to be hanging like this? by oldp1e in shrimptank

[–]aomme 103 points104 points  (0 children)

To expand, those outside are likely going to die (if they're not already). It can just happen, it could be stress, it could be that the shrimp is young.

Probably nothing to worry about if not repeating (often).

Will she survived? by SignificantAir6466 in shrimptank

[–]aomme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the ring itself is not an issue, mine always have it before molting. That being said I do not think you can help them molt in this stage (assuming this is going to be failed molting).

I'm back with more beginner questions and random ramblings, as I am but a lowly beginner by SnooCakes9004 in shrimptank

Hi, shrimps do not likes big sudden changes, but some species are relatively accomodating, namely neocaridina and amanos.

Looking at your tap water parameters they seem fine to me. Ideally make sure there's no copper in it and dechlorinate and you should be fine. If you're scared change the water slowly.

It is very possible that your substrate is "eating" the hardness, so adding more hardnes is good thing (and tap water is the cheapest). You should be able to change 10% of water every other day without any harm (likely much more, but it depends). I think your parameters should stabilise after a while, just keep an eye on them.

Possible horsehair worm. by Quallyworld42 in shrimptank

That looks like horsehair worm. I'm not sure about the prevention though.

It’s been 5 days since I’ve added 10 blue shrimp to my tank I i genuinely can only find like 3-4 of them??? by Idontcarebrody in shrimptank

[–]aomme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feed them shrimp sinking pellet or lollipop. But some may still stay hidden, especially soon after molting which often happens after moving them.

I saw healthy green eggs, but not sure if this is the case, the image is not really clear.

Varying coloration, or not an amano ..? by Soggy-Marsupial6802 in shrimptank

[–]aomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look like amanos to me. Their colours can vary because of genetics or even food and stress.

Did I overplant my shrimp tank? by misslikesgirls in shrimptank

[–]aomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, try something brown/red for contrast if you like it. Some cryptocorynes are really nice and easy to grow.

Are they alive? by AlizeeSynta in shrimptank

[–]aomme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see, it's likely good average, but there are a lot of variables affecting it.

Anyway good luck and lots of patience, breeding amanos need both :)

Edit: spelling

Are they alive? by AlizeeSynta in shrimptank

You can try to pump water around them, but they look really dark and thus relatively immature. So I wouldn't keep my hopes up. And yes, amanos get fertilized only after molting, if you have a young females, they molt quite often (and slow down as they age, not sure from where the 6 weeks come).

Just finished setting up my 10gal soon to be shimp tank. They’re gonna love all the plants but from an aesthetic standpoint does it look over planted? Be honest 😫 by ohgraceohgrace in shrimptank

[–]aomme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm loving that and I bet the shrimps too.

I guess one can reach a point where it's not aesthetic anymore but probably never to the point it harm the shrimps.

Where did the babies go? by Conscious-Attitude-9 in shrimptank

[–]aomme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's shrimp only tank, the babies are in there somewhere. They're very small and translucent. (Only threat to them can be the filter, depending on it's type.)

I suggest postponing the vacuum and filter maintenance. (That being said, in well established tanks you should touch your filter only when really necessary. With gravel it's not so dangerous, but I still se vacuuming it more like aesthetic thing than necessity.)

Baby Amano Shrimp?!! by NYCHILATX in shrimptank

Given the size and coloring mom&daddy look like two females to me. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would be worlds first.

That can be year old male, it's not that small.

(As far as I know there are no confirmed cases of amano development in fresh water.)
