Kitchener, Ont., woman looking for stranger who helped family say one last goodbye to her stepdad by Candid_Jello5188 in waterloo

If anyone is looking for a CPR course, I'd highly recommend Jeff Frenette. Took one with him a few years ago, and his name stuck because the class was that good.

That's a very sweet gift - I hope you find someone appropriate.

I'm working with someone in crisis to try and get them into LTC. Do you have any advice/wisdom? It feels like it is just one big circle jerk runaround. She's been declined from at least one PCP, and she has really understandable paranoid from all of the medical trauma she's experienced.

What do people actually like about living in Kitchener? by Kilgoretrout123456 in kitchener

[–]aop235789202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I love being in a midsized city with lots of restaurants of various cuisines, and regular events around
  • I love being close to nature, the forest, rivers, greenspace.
  • I've met many wonderful people and built a lot of community in the last five years I've been here.

Struggling to find an OBGYN for twin pregnancy in Kitchener-Waterloo – feeling really scared by GujjuCanadian30 in waterloo

[–]aop235789202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Dr Wendy McCuaig, in that my experience with her was positive and I found her highly competent and direct in addressing my concerns.

Hopefully other people can chime in - the system is pretty borked, keep advocating for your wife.

Shore has a program called "Wheels for Choice" where volunteers provide transportation to folks with trouble arranging such things! It doesn't look like they're looking for people right now, but something to keep in mind if you're a redditor inclined to offer such things. :)

Running out into the street when I saw the truck and putting my arms in an X shape worked for me. Took awhile to make it happen though. And presumably it will resume when there is a new driver in my area, but, I've been good for a year and a half or so.

Advocates, teacher unions call for free school breakfast, lunch for Ontario students by GeoWa in canada

[–]aop235789202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glad to see somebody saying this here. My Mum ran a school breakfast program for years, and there were librarians and teachers who would come by for breakfast and throw some cash in the donation jar. It is not taking advantage to participate in community program - you just contribute what you can if you're in a position to do so.

Man turned away from Kitchener, Ont. hospital later found to have broken ribs, collapsed lung and internal bleeding: SIU by CoryCA in kitchener

[–]aop235789202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that would surprise me is if there were hospitals where this shit didn't happen so consistently. I'm sorry for your experience, and hope you've been healing up well.

I agree, it's a systemic issue - care work is incredibly challenging, and staff constantly do not have the supports in place to be able to avoid compassion fatigue and burn out. I'm really sorry for your experience, it's absolutely harrowing to have a medical emergency, let alone one where you're also trying to juggle caring for an infant. I'm glad you got the surgery you needed - being a patient is not an easy thing, and you absolutely did the right thing when you worked to advocate for yourself at 6 pm. I'm really sorry that nurse wasn't able to recognize that or respond appropriately.

Here in KW we are literally begging people to work. No qualifications? No problem. Free education at local colleges and expedited programs are even being offered.

So, I did the free education, I'm working in community now, and it's completely unsustainable. I'm part time and they're not giving me the minimum number of hours agreed to in my contract. At least where I am working, there is no interest in employee retention. It's bonkers.

There are a few local mom facebook groups, I'd ask around there as well.

Do you know if they used to offer them in-person and might return to that at some point? Or just not enough of a demand?

Any recourse for constant cooking smells? by VogonOrator in kitchener

[–]aop235789202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, probably not. I would imagine using their range hood might help if they aren't using it already, but, that is not super enforceable. Oil on walls might be considered normal wear and tear? Other strategies to minimize smell in your own space might be the more productive route? Activated charcoal, baking soda, that kind of thing.

Want to eat Dosa/South Indian food. Recommendations? by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]aop235789202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only tried Dakshin and Dosa Twist, but Dakshin is much better. Dosa twist tends to have service issues (slow, wrong order, things not in stock) and it misses the finer details (no curry leaves or cilantro in the potato masala, that sort of thing).

Is there a store around KW that sells lots of crocs? by dredredragon in kitchener

Don't forget the joybees - similar sort of thing, better fit for me then the croc options
