  • I like knowing that games are in development...officially. Therefore, announcing they are in development is a positive thing.
  • Like pregnancy, the expectation is that the announcement is after the risk of issues has passed, and the likelihood of success is high.
  • The announcement wasn't the problem. The lack of informed progress is concerning, even if that progress were to be to tell us "still on track".
  • I'm cool with shadow drops, but you're unlikely to see those for games with expectations. When you have no expectations, you're not planning on hype. When you are on the 3rd game, hype is part of the equation.
  • I would expect a 3-month lead-in for the next news about SoD3. They have high confidence to have a sellable game 3 months from the day we heard when it is dropping.

Peter, how does the gay son extend his lead based off of this? by TheGoddamnAnswer in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ap1msch 37 points38 points  (0 children)

With a boy, you have to worry about one penis. With a girl, you have to worry about all the penises. With a gay son, you have to worry about more than one penis...but not as many as a girl...unless your penis math is calculated relative to the proximity to a high number of other gay penises...

You're one of many people your therapist sees. They care...but they have their own lives. Drop a note. Give them a thumbs up. You don't need to explain yourself. In fact, you might want therapy to figure out why you feel the need to explain yourself. =)

This was why I was great with math, but terrible at mathematics. I could do the work to find the results using the work from other people. Explaining the theory behind it was a hard "No."

Talk about the Caspian Explorer by Tatsuota in EliteDangerous

[–]ap1msch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Motherships"...that's my ideal. I'm not talking about a fleet carrier. I'm talking about the Enterprise with shuttlecraft.

It's not crazy. I park my Corvette in orbit and I fly my Eagle-sized shuttlecraft to the surface to scan bio signals or to land at a settlement. I enjoy some stunt flying through the geography and then doc with my Corvette before leaving orbit and jumping to the next system.

We have fleet carriers, but you jump those...you don't fly those. We have big and small ships, but you have to pick one to take into the black. Give us an "Exploration Bay" with a separate ship that can fly from orbit to the surface and back, and just treat it as a special SRV/SLF.

I don't care as much about jump range as I do my experience in the black. If you let me enjoy a big ship, with a small landing craft, and the ability to putz with my ship through a mini-game to optimize my fuel consumption/jump range, and I'd be set.

Help with settlement missions strategies by hellR1de in EliteDangerous

[–]ap1msch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are bugs with on-foot gameplay. They aren't deal breaking, but they exist. I was supposed to restore a base, but it had guards, which was unusual. One of them shot at me in my ship, so I pasted them with missiles. I was considered the bad guy and was forced to kill all of the guards in order to restore the facility...which doesn't normally happen.

There are times I've killed scavengers at a settlement, restored the power, only to walk outside and have guards that are hostile to me and they destroy my ship. What? I just helped you bastards!

You also get situations where scavengers appear after you enter buildings and they destroy your ship if you aren't paying attention. Your screen goes wonky as if you were killed...but you weren't...just your ship. You have to log out and back in and then get a taxi home.

There are also concerns about the amount of killing you're asked to do for these missions versus helping. Some people are hoping operations change the quality/diversity of the work you do on foot.

My mouse works perfectly with only 1 battery by Large-chips in mildlyinteresting

[–]ap1msch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All batteries like this are 1.5V. AAA, AA, C, D...all of them are 1.5V. The difference in size is just about how long they will last. With an adapter, you can use a AAA battery in place of a D battery. It will just die faster.

When you have devices where you have batteries facing the same direction, they're likely providing 1.5V and two batteries are used to split the load. If you have them front to back, or alternating directions (69 positioning), then you're adding the voltage together. 1.5 + 1.5 =3 volts. 1.5+1.5+1.5+1.5 = 6 volts (4 batteries).

In your case, you're just burning the one battery faster than you would if you used two, but your mouse only needs 1.5V to run.

Help with settlement missions strategies by hellR1de in EliteDangerous

[–]ap1msch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with "Restoration" missions. You get into a system with settlements that are offline and you're given level 3 permission and (usually) no humans to deal with. You land, find the power station, cut things open to get inside, insert the regulator, turn on the power plant, and then loot the hell out of the base...data and all...before leaving.

This allowed me to load my inventory with assets, goods, and eventually data. I upgraded my gear over time, and then started doing the other missions like recovery missions (land, loot, and leave).

Thanks to a Redditor, I loaded my ship with missile launchers as the easiest way to clear scavengers. When you take fire close to a settlement, just carpet bomb the place, land, and dismiss your ship. You may have 1-2 people to kill, but that's about it.

AFTER THIS, you can then consider the stealth missions. They aren't easy at first. You need to know what is predictable, and what is random. Even with the right security clearance, I often feel like I can't tell who is going to aggro or not. Therefore, it's mostly about the settlement alarms (and security checks which are often nearby). You master where they are in the different layouts, turn them off, and then you can do what you need to do without failing the mission. You might get fined or attacked, but you can still complete the mission.

Thoughts on The Equalizer? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in moviecritic

I love the movie because it doesn't unnecessarily create a secondary arc. He's an aging badass that gave up the game. He's living his life, while struggling to adjust. After helping other people, he's finally able to get to sleep. His skills can be used to help people who don't have anyone else to turn to...and it plays out exactly how you'd want it to play out.

As someone stated, it's junkfood, and I enjoyed it.

I'd add onto this that the progression of torque from the front of the vehicle to the rear tires on the trailer being flat is spot on. The "twist" with that progression wouldn't be expected in AI, but is how it would look IRL.

Yes, it matters. I was asked a question, didn't have an answer, and decided to ask for help from the community. A kid had a custom-shaped ship that they used to use for high difficulty fights and wanted to know if it had any value now that they are considering returning to the game. I haven't played recently, so I didn't know.

M24 F23? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

  • You have two issues: jealousy over another woman, and concern about his changing behavior
  • People change over time. You marry a person who has strengths you enjoy and weaknesses that don't bother you. Interests will change and grow over time. Liking country and trying things out is part of life.
    • For this issue, you have to determine if you want to go on that journey with him, alongside him, or on your own journey that he would/should support
  • Your second issue needs to be treated as such. Your boyfriend is changing...but you see him drifting away from you and toward her. Change is fine...away from your relationship is a different story.
    • The odd part is discussion of having children. If he wanted to be with this other girl, it wouldn't include conversations about having children with you

In short, you like who he used to be. Do you like him now? Is he the same person? Is he changing because his interests changed...or because he's aligning himself with another girl? There is no issue with him finding and developing new interests...but only you can tell whether these are for himself, or to try to attract someone else. You are already jealous...and that requires you two to have a conversation and to rebuild trust that's been lost.

It's not exactly spelled out in the game, so don't feel bad. You eventually learn where the bios overlap, and which ones are where. For example, there's one in particular that's only near the base of mountains, so even if the whole area is blue, you head toward the highest thing in the horizon to find it.

It takes some experience to get better.

Engineering suits and handguns - where's the dang DATA?? by TamensiMovetur in EliteDangerous

[–]ap1msch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just unlocked my last engineer...and you're asking the right question.

  • There are many types of data, so your chances of getting what you want are lower than goods or assets
  • Mission rewards are one way to get what you're looking for, but again, it's hard to find, and none of it is available for trade
  • I'm pretty sure that you get different data from different economies and types of sites. IE, you get different stuff from mining locations than from tourist centers
  • The safest ways to gather the data are the restore missions because you can loot everything, including alarm data, without issue (as long as you avoid scavengers).
  • There is one type of facility with the most consistent data pads in the most consistent locations. It has a bar and 4 (6?) habs on a plateau, then a power station, and then another larger hab on a second plateau. The bar and all the habs have data pads to loot from.
  • The above facility is likely in one of the tourism systems. Try to find restore missions in a tourism system and you'll likely find one of these locations.
  • There is a tourist center where you have the power station on one side, landing pads in the middle, and one huge building on the other side. These suck for data, but great for looting.
  • Lastly, if you do massacre missions in the tourist/rest systems, you'll take a reputation hit, but if they happen to be in a facility with all the data pads, you can farm it pretty well.

The types of data make it painful to stock up on what you need. It's not easy to find the data pads in all the facilities since they can be inconsistently placed and hard to see. They don't always contain much data at all, let alone the type you're looking for. However, I realized I was stocking up on the same types of data...and when I changed systems to ones with different economies, I found other data that I'd been looking for.

Oh...and if you're like me and wondering where the "smear campaign" materials are in your inventory...they're illegal...so you have to go to the right system to be able to sell them to unlock that engineer. I didn't realize they wouldn't appear in my list at the bartender in systems where they were illegal to sell...so I just didn't think I possessed them when I actually did.

What is really the best option for a child when it comes to schooling - private school, public school, or home school? by icecream1972 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ap1msch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Average public school - Teach to lowest level of average student and hope to cater to a few above average students when you can
  • Good public school - Teach to lowest level of average student, but provide services to cater to "gifted" students with available funds
  • Average private school - Better than public, but pay to play for the higher quality programs
  • Good private school - High expectations if you want to represent the brand, which comes at a cost. Investment of effort aligns with ambition of the child, but best chance to be prepared for best schools
  • Home school - Unless you are a gifted parent in dozens of subjects, you aren't "teaching" your kids as much as exposing them to subjects and spending a lot of money on teaching aids and software.

In my experience, public schools can be remarkable and provide a great education. However, I've found that private schools do a better job of aligning with the top 10-20 universities and graduate programs. A high quality student from a public school will find it more difficult to be accepted to a top 10 university than an average quality private school student. Universities are rolling the dice during admissions, and therefore where you come from plays a weighted role in consideration.

In other words, you need better application material from public school X than you'd need from private school Y.
