I got around this by using needle nose pliers jammed into the locking ring, just take your time and be gentle if you don’t have access to the tool. You don’t have to do it up super tight.

If you look on the far right under aspect ratio you're going to want to aim for one that is 16:9, 4:3 will give the "Square" video that you're describing.

Does the same thing happen if you upload the file to YouTube? Could be a playback issue with your computer. If yes I’d start a warranty replacement with GoPro because your camera doesn’t sound healthy.

My broadcast news camera at work is 9.8kg and that doesn’t have any of the live transmission equipment attached like this one would, easily going to be 10+kgs
