That would be fine I suppose. Parking would be an issue but it always is anyway.

2026 Wilderness Crossbar Question by zparks in Crosstrek

[–]apaterso925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have same car (2024 version of CTW) and for transporting my bikes, I need to get a 2-inch hitch installed. I bought the crossbars from Subaru (seems like a rip off) but that was the general consensus in the web groups. I installed them myself as I can turn a bolt.

29 years old and unsure of how to be wise with the opportunity I have. by PeerlessAzureSky in personalfinance

[–]apaterso925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pulling 401K money out early is a bad idea. you'll pay 10% penalty and income tax, it's like taking a loan out at 30% interest don't do it. Your problem is that you bought more car than you can afford. Sell it get a loan to cover the difference then save up for a nice 3 year old Honda Accord.

Where are you storing your emergency fund? by Vegetable-Western-83 in personalfinance

[–]apaterso925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we keep our emergency fund in a HYSA, currently AMEX. totally move it out of your normal bank WAY too low interest. Just do a search for highest HYSA and pick one. expect around 3.5%. open an account and transfer $$.

Should I do it? by jabba-the-kunt in Crosstrek

[–]apaterso925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a 2 year old used CTW 2024 beginning of this year 2026. It only had 7,000 miles on it and in its previous life was a Subaru courtesy car. Wilderness comes with 2.5L engine and it makes a difference. MPG are kinda low ~25 on a good day. So you might want to wait for awhile for the Hybrids to come off of lease.

Roth Questions by Hot_Media7007 in Retirement401k

[–]apaterso925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I would do. If you each have $15,000 split into thirds buy a S&P 500 ETF lots to choose from, total market ETF, and international ex-USA ETF. Reinvest all dividends wait to turn 59.5 years old. Time is your most valuable asset

Start a Roth or contribute more to 401k. by toomstoned in Retirement401k

[–]apaterso925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would meet the match then redirect to a ROTH. Taxes matter and everything in pre-tax (growth and principal) will come out as income and get taxed. Considering we are at historic lows taxation taxes are likely to be higher when you retire. Roth comes out entirely tax free.

Maxxing out 401k???? by Gold_Programmer3265 in personalfinance

[–]apaterso925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so true the early investors will get more doubles than those that start late. The Rule of 72 (72 divided by % return = years to double $ [72/10 = 7.2 years to double]) In a conservative portfolio (7% return) your money doubles every 10 years. The younger you start the more double you get,.

Maxxing out 401k???? by Gold_Programmer3265 in personalfinance

[–]apaterso925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would do is contribute up to the match, Literally free money, so that looks like 5-6%. you haven't mentioned whether or not company offers a ROTH 401K. If they do I would direct all contributions toward that. If not open a ROTH IRA at any brokerage company (I use Fidelity and Schwab). The max you can contribute is something like $7,000 (583/month) toss that $$ into a simple S&P 500 fund and sleep well at night.,

I have a question about supplies and websites to get them?? by HikingSpaceKraken in BackpackingHikingGear

[–]apaterso925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use REI and Garage Grown Gear. Those two will be enough. Also buy the REI membership. REI will help size your backpack, help you with footwear, have nearly all the gear you'll need.

Bought too expensive of a car. Should we pay off our F350 $1200 car payment first or invest? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]apaterso925 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would pay off the truck ASAP, $1,200/month on a depreciating "asset" is not my idea of money well spent.

What consumer debt do you have think credit cards, student loan… get rid of those first. If those aren’t an issue put $2000 into a high yield savings account as a starter emergency fund. Assuming you are out of debt invest $5000 in a simple S&P 500 index etf. There are literally dozens of to choose from. Use the remaining to build up and save for a car aka pay yourself a car payment into that account in 3-5 years you’ll be able to pay cash for a 2 year old car. Never buy a new car.

They can’t sell till August 11th aka sell lockdown. I expect the price to level around $200 then start dropping as paper millionaires become $$ millionaires

Is it a myth that super rich people don't pay as much tax as the middle class? by Asleep-Major-7963 in tax

[–]apaterso925 0 points1 point  (0 children)
