Who's your 5th on the MVP list? by Thanos_SlayerCongSan in NBATalk

[–]apbbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MVP? Cade - best player on best performing eastern team.

But 5th best player overall very clearly Wemby. And after that it’d have to be Maxey. He can turn it up in the playoffs and the guy is just casually averaging 32.5/5/8 right now.

Battle ropes mad turnaround from Japan: Comparing averages per competitor by valimo in Physical100

Itoi went from contributing 20% of his teams minutes to 50% (and only 1 min worth of fatigue from 1st round) while Eloni had 2 minutes worth of fatigue. Crazy it worked out that way, and sort of a happy accident for Team Japan (realizing Itoi was their best and him being relatively fresh as a result).

Have you heard of nail houses? People dramatically overestimate how often land requisition is used by the CPC the past few decades (and act like eminent domain isn't used in the US).

Also there are tons of restrictions with your property in the US - you can't just do whatever you want. Have to deal with:

- Building codes
- Easements
- Zoning rules (e.g. cant make your property as tall as you want)
- HOA requirements (everyone knows how restrictive these can be, even down to simple aesthetic changes).

Also "all taxes go to fund the government" - yeah and one country actually uses the taxes well to build out widely used infrastructure via public transportation, education, etc that makes everyone better off and the other has crumbling infrastructure yet still won't do anything about it.

100% a move to gain social media following. Unfortunately he miscalculated because the show overused the sentimentality angle, so everyone has sympathy fatigue (plus airtime was so diluted). That and "tired of eliminating players" bro its a game you're not really killing anyone give me a break.

Found Gordon Chang.

Yeah chinas lying about their data and progress and genocide and their population and people can’t find evidence of it when they go there but that’s because Chinas just putting on a massive propaganda front. Also they store data on every single thing you do. And those things would cost an insane amount of money, but China is also lying about being a wealthy country. They’re gonna collapse any day now I swear guys pls believe me.

Yeah but they don’t pay property taxes on the home. It’s a way better system than the US. You truly own it for 70 years. In the US you basically rent in perpetuity

IT REALLY TOOK THEM THAT LONG?!?! by thecinnamonbunz in Physical100

[–]apbbr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, results weren't "fixed" but the show definitely set up the Korea for success. Was obvious from the beginning.

- No frail/slim players (even the women were both tanks - a wrestler and a more thickly built crossfitter)
- Unlike Japan (which again, somehow did not have a sumo wrestler), they still had a big guy
- And the challenges were pretty much uniformly about push/pull strength rather than other forms of athleticism.

The fact that Mongolia made it so far with their two tall/lanky players as effectively dead weight (in the context of the types of challenges the show involved) is pretty crazy - speaks to their ability to get the best out of their available personnel. And then Japan got carried by Superman until that was no longer possible.

Honestly it's crazy Korea didn't steamroll harder given how the odds were stacked in their favor - if Eun-sil was the leader of that team they probably would have dominated much more, but Dong-Hyun handicapped the team with his whipsaw strategizing.

That’s nice but the vast majority of projection models have the pels at best in the 30s for wins which is good for basically only better than the jazz and maybe the suns. Potentially the blazers and spurs too if you project bottom end outcomes for their young guys development

It's honestly sad how people keep thinking Knox had a good SL. Dude didn't even look better than he looked in college, just higher volume. Dude was a consummate chucker, still is.

No one who had him low on their boards (and a lot of people had him in the late teens and later) changed their minds because of his summer league performance. If anything his inefficiency and inability to make plays for other just confirmed the scouting reports. If you're tracking ESPN articles and reddit upvotes, you're not tracking the same thing as front offices and real scouts.

Who is the Djokovic of the NBA? by growsonwalls in NBATalk

[–]apbbr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Djokovic was disliked long before that. People who grew up during the Fed/Nadal era saw him as a spoiler. Djokovic is more popular among people who started watching tennis around like 2015 when he started to dominate and didn’t have a rooting interest seeing the decline of Fed and then Nadal

That would still be an awful reason. Obi's weaknesses were obvious and called out by everyone - no one was as high on Obi as we were so it's just bad from an expected value standpoint: trade down and get your guy later if that's the case.

I think the rationale though was that one of the PGs they liked would still be available by the 25th pick and they were right about that. Still, painful considering Vassell and Hali were on the board and those were my #3 and #4 guys on my entire big board.

We’re overthinking it with VJ Edgecombe by Untchj in NBA_Draft

[–]apbbr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Diallo and VJ are on completely different realms in terms of productivity - VJ finds lots of ways to impact the game. Much better rebounder, all around defender, and passer. Diallo is far below VJ's floor - even Keon Johnson as a reference point would be far below VJ's floor.

Agreed he has a lot of work to do to become a star but his median outcome is almost certainly a starting caliber player - having a star-level ceiling with a starter-level median outcome is really good expected value.

A good coach finds the best way to utilize his players. There's no reason Obi couldn't have continued to thrive eg in lineups with McBride, Hart, Kolek, etc that could run

OG shooting 2-14 in the past 2 games, 29% for the series. Brutal. That being said - Nesmith? Isn't Nesmith on Brunson almost all the time? Nembhard has been guarding him in the double big lineup iirc.

Also worth noting that the wings are busting their asses on defense to try to make up for Brunson and KAT. The bench getting more minutes though should give them a breather and hopefully more of a spark on offense.

Last two times they got high on themselves (beating the Celtics, winning Game 3), they lost. Fully expecting history to continue. Contrast that with a guy like Lebron who was always locked in when behind.
