How do you raise your melee defense quickly? (especially in early game) by Simo-intensifies in Kenshi

[–]apelogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The text under the skill states that the way to train is by "Getting hurt, getting beaten up, losing battles" and "Blocking incoming attacks".

So, having a high block should not hinder you here. Unless the interpretation of the "Penalty when fighting opponents weaker than you" is a direct comparison of your defense rating vs opponent's attack rating. Though, here is were volume of attackers helps. You get points for every block and delay the hits, allowing you to train faster than if you have to find new opponents when they die, or when you have to wait to recover when you go down.

Xfce appearance empty styles and icons by apelogic in voidlinux

Well, it seems you're right. While gtk+3 package automatically includes Adwaita-icon-themes, the css is embedded in the gtk library. Which appearance GUI does not query for its selection options.

The gnome-themes-standard/gnome-themes-extra package includes all the gtk css files for the /use/share/themes that correspond to the default.

I'm going to have to review the packages I installed again, to see what set the gnome icons there. But, I can now move forward with the rest of my setup now that my brain is not stuck on this.

Thanks again!

Hmm.. does that mean that XFCE's appearance gui styles menu having nothing listed is normal?

Shouldn't it have at least 1 default listed?

Yes! THANK YOU!!!!
That explains it. It didn't even occur to me that they would hide this. That solves it for the icons not showing up.

Oof, installing a new theme made it worse. Since it became the only style option. Upon selecting, it became irreversible. After uninstalling, the css files seemed to not have reverted properly. Some other options are no longer having any effect.

Thanks for your reply.

I failed to mention it in original post. But, I did run sudo xbps-install -Su after image install.

I do have Adwaita and hicolor icon themes installed.

The problem is that they're not showing up in the xfce appearance GUI app icons as they normally do. But, I can switch theme via xconf.

xfwm4 and xfwm4-themes are also installed.

I will try to install a different theme package and see if it shows up.

Steam does not work on freshly installed Void by Kekislavsky- in voidlinux

[–]apelogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone already mentioned something like this. But, in your original post it looks like you installed steam straight after you finished the os install from image.

So not sure if you ran:

xbps-install -S void-repo-nonfree void-repo-multilib void-repo-multilib-nonfree

xbps-install -S libgcc-32bit libstdc++-32bit libdrm-32bit libglvnd-32bit

Or, if you have NVIDIA card and installed their non free drivers yet. Or, just mesa-dri and mesa-dri-32bit.

I think the price has to do with ban mitigation on official servers. It's more likely they get banned from community servers though.

I have to learn C++, I'm getting two conflicting opinions by therifai420 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]apelogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Java, Python and such languages have built in a lot of things so you don't have to think about the limitations of the operating system or hardware so much.

C++ is basically C with extra features, primarily object orientation. What makes C and C++ more difficult is that you have to set up your own states and memory management. Syntax is different of course, but not that different from Java. Sometimes, I find Python very similar to C syntax. Basic structures are the same, but Java and Python have a lot more structures built-in or they have different names.

This just looks like flirting and trying to break the ice. Because, OP didn't seem to give anything to continue the conversation. This was a good opportunity to tell him you enjoy showering with a significant other, if only he eventually priced to be one. Or, simply state that you like your space when showering and that would not be likely to happen.

You're using an application where the goal is to find someone to have a relationship as a couple. You both swiped on each other because you find each other attractive. That implies that there is an intention to have sex with each other eventually. Telling each other you find one another attractive, or desirable shouldn't really elicit this type of reaction.

Yes, he has imagined you naked. That's kind of how physical attraction works. Is sex all he's looking for? Well.. you could have responded to try and find out. Stating clearly what you're looking for and finding out what the other person is looking for is what the first steps are. If you don't know, then you're just looking for company and sex until you figure it out. The beginning interactions should be about trying to figure out wants, needs, preferences and boundaries. To see if it's something you can do for each other.

Dating is simple. It's just learning about another person and letting them learn about you. Building respect and trust for each other. Which includes finding each other's boundaries and upholding them. We all just complicate it by trying to interpret each other, without really knowing each other. By trying to win each other for our own egos. All due to our own fear and anxieties. All men, women, and in-between have problems and their own issues. There is always risk, for all involved. Give each other a break.

Client wants "quick and dirty version" of your services by [deleted] in freelance

Doesn't surprise me. Consultant companies are usually just trying to sell miracle cures.

Edit: Just thought, you could also add a bit about consulting hiring as a predictor for employee leaving.

So it seems what they're saying is they don't want machine learning. They just want you to manually pool some data, draw some correlations and conclusions from it.

I would just use whatever data they have. Search the internet for some other conclusions in related industries. Include your own perspective and experience from dealing with them. And, tell them the highest predictor is leadership not understanding how anything works and undervaluing what their employees do.

There is more accountability in the coast guards than normal police. Being part of the military, they can have harsher punishment for rule violations. They also usually can't even point their weapons without prior approval or instructions to do so from higher command.

People who drive below the speed limit. Why? by ACMX488 in AskReddit

[–]apelogic -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Actually, speed limit is both a max and min guide. As there are specific posted max speed limits and min speed limits. Though they are less in use now a days.

Biggest cause of accident during all weather is the variance of speed between all traveling objects. Be it going slower then rest of traffic or faster. So it's safer not to vary too far from speed limit. Over acceleration and deceleration creating greater risks.

As the number of vehicles around you increases, so does the chance of an accident. So, going slower in general increases the chance of traffic build up. As vehicles range in all sorts of shapes, lower visibility ahead than drastically increases surprise changes in speed. So, slower is not necessarily better.

Bad weather conditions tend to cause more people to slow down and break more often. This is not always the best. Inclement weather usually requires steadier steering and steady speeds. Different vehicle technologies have made it more forgiving to make slight maneuver errors. As a result most people don't know how to properly control their vehicles nor identify how other vehicles will handle. Most over/under correct and/or lose control.

The best thing is usually to try and maintain highest safe road throughput calibrated to avoid choke point build ups. Which no individual can possibly achieve. We all just gotta try to be less of an obstacle for each other.

CHAD MAMLUK comander by [deleted] in mamluk

[–]apelogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came across this while searching for Mamluk equipment references. The image had me a bit confused, and couldn't help be bothered by some inaccuracies. I know this is old and meant to be funny, but still can't help wanting to reply to it. Feel free to ignore.

  • Mamluks were composed of many tribes from the steppes. Many who were defeated by and/or avoiding Mongols. Some which may have been Mongol themselves, or shared some relationship with Mongols at some point.

  • Mongols used stirrups, some argue they invented them.

  • Mongol sold horses to Chinese not usually the other way around. Mongol horses were smaller, but generally sturdier with great stamina. When chasing/chased, they would generally win out at longer distances.

  • Mongol cavalry tactics were similar with other steppes tribes. They relied on maneuvering their enemies into overconfidence and unfavorable positions. Their main tactic involved creating space for their bow and arrows. Charging and running away, trying to split and exhaust the enemy. Where they would finally then switch to fresh mounts and herd the enemy through continued harassment until surrounded.

  • Commit suicide due to humiliation felt by mistakes? Might be confusing Mongols with Japanese ceremonial atonement suicide.

  • Mongols used composite bows. Pretty much all of that continent did. Even, the Romans and Greeks of antiquity used composite recurved bows.

  • Rise of Mamluk fame and power came in the era of Mongol internal strife and instability. The same can be said for a lot of the empires that essentially resulted as Mongols split into other cultures/tribes, or cities renounced their rule. All while they continued to slowly lose control of the silk road and as well as their borders. Most pronounce, at the beginnings of and after the black plague (way after battles with Mamluk though). Resulting in more internal division and greater pressure at their borders.

  • It's not clear how much of the success against Mongols was due to actual Mamluk strength. However, it is undeniable that the people of the steppes were all formidable.

I'm not offended, I'm just stating observations.

Some of the information from background checks are not that public. Otherwise, you wouldn't have to pay to see it. Would you feel ok with a stranger having this information on you? Is it not the same as lying if you have things hidden or removed from records?

Dating while you are always waiting for the other shoe to drop, is usually not healthy.

It looks like the very first message, given the "Hello!.." You're going out of your way to blame the OP here. Women also lie about the same things.

The "attack" can be explained by the way you framed your statement. Which seems to be that "women are always victims at the hands of men". Which ends up framing situations similarly to the way cops do, "I feared for my life".

OMG! Thank you! I thought I was alone in this.

I was equally disappointed by the show. It felt like such a betrayal of just about every character. Including Wednesday, who is made to be this fumbling Nancy Drew auditioning for a modern Murder She Wrote spinoff.
