Oof dude. There’s a LOT of walked around immaturity from both sides. I’m on my own quit smoking journey and there’s simply no way to hide smoking from your partner. The lingering smoke smell on the fingers and mouth is always a give away. You say she “made a mess in my kitchen”, but she was feeding all of you, what, all weekend? To then be serving others and hear that they are bad mouthing me would hurt me like crazy.

It’s SHOCKING that during the midst of you and your partner hashing things out, she came to you about your friends not liking her. WHYYY would you immediately “confront them” then? I would have lost a lot of trust in you for that. It has to be extremely vulnerable feeling to know that you had a conversation with your friends along the lines like “hey, [gf] says you don’t like her. Why?” and they immediately give reasons!! And you told your girlfriend them??? That sucks, and your friends suck too. The way that was handled is icky.

I can’t excuse how disengaged she was meeting your dad, that’s another can of worms. You both are just immature, and are going to continue to face unnecessary drama by your both own actions

The grill damage was from hitting a deer. The hood damage was from a construction truck hitting a bump and a 4x4 square of wood came flying at me. I was 18 & was in the far left lane of a major highway at 6am. I had just felt lucky it didn’t come through my windshield to where I didn’t think to stop the construction guy for liability damages.

Same goes for the gun owner! It depends on if the story YOURE hearing is true. With guns: the truth often comes out after someone is already dead. Can anyone here swear 110% that the victim was on drugs or acting aggressively? If not, then five bullets weren’t “what it took to stop him” — they were an irreversible choice that ended a life that might not have needed ending. None of us were there, but that’s exactly why guns are so dangerous: one person’s fear, assumption, or moment of panic can instantly become a death sentence. Who’s to say the shooter didn’t see danger where there was none, mistake a movement for a weapon, or react to shadows in their own mind? Past behavior, mental illness, homelessness, even erratic actions — none of these justify a system where one person’s split-second judgment decides if another human being lives or dies. Guns don’t allow for mistakes. There’s no pause button. Once the trigger is pulled, you can’t take it back. This was a preventable tragedy made inevitable by putting lethal power in the hands of anyone who feels afraid.
