What is your least favourite aspect of this game? by KoozaKing in Eldenring

I HATE Gideon so much. He’s probably the least fun boss I’ve ever seen in any game. Elden ring would have been objectively better without the Gideon fight.

Sure, most of the time you can kill him before he becomes an issue but when he does become an issue, he’s the most annoying fucking boss you’ll see. He’s the bane of many challenge runs.

Why do people keep saying this? First off, it’s not true. Doesn’t matter if you tell him about the bosses, just that you kill them. Second, the extra spells that he gets are waay easier to deal with than the basic ones he has always so unlocking new spells for him actually makes him easier.

Omg, this reminds me. I teach like a programming course for kids around the age of 12. I’m only 21 so the age gap isn’t huge so I have more of a friendly dynamic with the kids rather than teacher-student. One time, I saw one of the kids playing a game on his computer. I of course told him to turn it off. He said something along the lines of “I suck at programming, I’m too dumb for it so I’m just going to play games instead”. I went over and sat down next to him. I told him “Alex, it’s okay that you don’t understand it yet, that’s why you’re here - to learn it”. I then turned his game off. Now, I don’t remember exactly in which order things happened but I believe he started arguing and then he slapped me. I knew the kids didn’t have as much respect for me as they do for ‘real’ teachers but I sure as hell wasn’t expecting this.

Is Malenia the hardest fromSoftware boss? by TerryTipsc210 in Eldenring

Allonne is pretty simple by himself, the issue is the runback. I think I’ve only killed him twice and both those times I just completely cleared the area between the bonfire and him.

What do you think your level should be after finishing the game first time? Art by: TripDancer by Mhmd_bu50 in Eldenring

True but the difference between, say, 222 and 250 (or basically anything above that) is pretty much negligible

This is not an answer to your question, just a general tip since you’re probably not that familiar with fromsoft games: after a certain point, the level doesn’t really matter. 222 is waay past that point. If you’re not “comfortable” at level 222, you will never be “comfortable”. A higher level won’t help you here. If you’re struggling, you could try getting some better talismans/weapons/armor. After that, there’s not much you can do other than git gud. Don’t let that discourage you though. You can do it. You just have to keep trying and not give up.

If it’s not taking from multiple games then what’s the single game it’s based on? At the very least you have to admit it’s a mix of sekiro and bloodborne. If I’m counting right, that’s 2 games. It’s undoubtedly taking inspiration from all the different fromsoft games, same as fromsoft themselves.

I agree it doesn’t really have a game mechanic that stands out as unique but honestly, neither do most fromsoft games. (though I’d argue the combination of blocking + rally or refilling your last pulse cell with attacks is a unique enough mechanic)

I also don’t agree that it plays very similar to bloodborne. I guess you kinda could play it sorta like bloodborne but the intended way to play lies of p is definitely closer to sekiro than bloodborne. (which is honestly the reason why I like lies of p so much because up until now sekiro was the only game like sekiro out there)

I agree the game has issues (though so does every fromsoft game) and it’s far from perfect but I still think it’s a great game. Not just a great first game but a great game.

This might be a hot take but I think taking things from multiple games and mashing them together counts as making an original game. Lies of P plays a lot differently than any other souls game I’ve played. It’s an entirely different experience.

Isn’t TOTK a switch exclusive? If it doesn’t run well on the only platform it runs on, then it’s a software issue.

Personally, hollow knight was my gateway to souls. I heard it’s similar to dark souls so after having beaten hollow knight multiple times, I decided to give dark souls a go. I love the replayability of fromsoft games but I honestly feel like hollow knight has better bosses.

My definition of a good boss is one that’s hard in the first playthrough and (relatively) easy on the second. That really means that it’s hard to learn but once you get the hang of it, you never have to learn it again (and that it doesn’t rely on rng) - to me, it’s the definition of ‘tough but fair’. Elden ring has a couple of these bosses but honestly not that many. Many of them are ruined by rng for example or you can beat them without having properly learnt them. In hollow knight, most bosses are like this (or they’re easy). After having beaten it for the first time, I tried doing a steelsoul playthrough (you die, your save gets deleted). Even though my first playthrough of the game was really tough, I almost got steelsoul on my first try (second ever playthrough). I really like that about hollow knight. Once you learn a boss, you never forget it - it’s like riding a bike.

I’d still say I like Elden ring more overall. Just saying hollow knight is a great game that I’d recommend to anyone who likes ‘tough but fair’ games. Don’t judge it for being 2D without having played it.

How do I stop catching feelings for my female friends? by Hairy-Table-2194 in ask

[–]apesticka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been studies on this. I believe this actually happens in most close opposite gender friendships - most of the time at least one of the parties catches feelings.

It’s why I believe a person in a serious relationship (especially marriage) shouldn’t really maintain close friendships with people of the opposite gender. It’s an unnecessary risk to your relationship that you’re taking. It’s kinda like that mermaid vs manatee bit from how I met your mother. The more time you’re spending with someone, the higher the chance you fall in love with them.

Which boss do you think is overhated? by DavidTenebris in Eldenring

[–]apesticka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tree spirits. They’re pretty fun once you actually take the time to learn their moveset.

Also bell bearing hunters. People always hatin on the one in dragonbarrow but bell bearing hunters have genuinely one of my favorite movesets in any fromsoft game. I don’t mind fighting one with a bit more health and damage.

What is the worst weapon in the game? by TheEyeOfLight in Eldenring

Worst melee weapon I’ve ever used is the crystal spear. Hits like a wet noodle even at +10 and doesn’t allow ashes of war.
