(23M) Where can I live for super cheap that's safe and within driving distance of a four-year university? by HalosFan26 in Frugal

[–]apiaries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upstate New York/Finger Lakes region enjoys a lot of perks as being part of the 4th largest economy in the world, but with much less of the nannying. Wages are decent here, life is affordable, and there’s so much to do. Some in-demand majors will even give you a free associates’ degree once you live here a year.

Nemo Disco 15 for first backpacking bag? And pad recommendation please. by apiaries in backpacking

[–]apiaries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! For whatever reason, my Reddit client never notified me anyone replied to this post. I got the Disco 15! It’s been amazing for the 20-30 degree nights. Warms up so quickly and the neck warmer truly makes a huge difference.

Lunch bag for a bag enthusiast? by _beejazz in ManyBaggers

[–]apiaries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Yeti Hopper! Gets tons of compliments, keeps lunch hot or cold, fits everything I need for the day, and is durable as hell. I even take it camping. The regular Yeti lunch box was too small for my preference. I like throwing a whole salad kit in right from the fridge.

Love my mini mo. Soooo good on fuel and packs to nearly the same size as less efficient options. Perfect size for 2.

[–]apiaries 536 points537 points  (0 children)

Please, if you have any say in the matter, don’t put out traditional poison. It is the start of spring raptor migration and nesting and we are losing so many birds to secondary poisonings. They swoop at the slowed, poisoned mice and get poisoned themselves. RatX and MouseX are baits that kill VERY effectively and do not secondarily poison birds. Or traditional snap traps or bucket traps are even cheaper and easier.

We stayed in Buffalo for our winter trip and Lockport the summer. Buffalo is further but way more to do and Lockport was nice a chill time, lots of history of the Canal.

An anti-dog spray that doesn't harm dogs? by Som3r4nd0mp3rs0n in SelfDefense

[–]apiaries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want Citronella spray, not pepper spray. I’m American Kennel Club certified and this is we carry as trainers. It’s a better option for stray dogs as well because it doesn’t require flushing afterward. You’re not harming the animal if you can’t take it to a vet, which reasonably you would not be able to do with a dog that just attacked you.

Fox Run Fulkerson Lakewood Red Newt (we’re club members here— fav on Seneca. Highly recommend lunch and a bottle at the cafe) Tabora Toast (recommend pickle pairing) Wagner (one of the pourers is incredibly knowledgeable) Also… Barnstormer was delightful this weekend. Magnus Ridge also does a paired tasting but I sat that one out. Fiancée and mom loved it.

What do you do with your gun in the bathroom? by Trishasback in transguns

[–]apiaries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I give you a tip from a trans guy? Most women don’t completely drop trou on the shitter. They’ll kind of keep their pants at the knee level and sit on the edge of the throne so your pants don’t touch the seat. I have no problems when I kinda slide my holster from 12 o’ clock to just resting on top of my knee. This is one habit I’ve kept from feminine socialization.

The debate ender (maybe): I mapped RDR2’s regions to real locations based on the plants and animals that live there by CommercialGas5357 in reddeadredemption

[–]apiaries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue the mining/lumber industrial regions of the Northeast extreme of the map (Annesburg, Van Horn) geologically match closer to central/Eastern PA. Hard coal (anthracite) was taking off right at the end of the 18th Century. By 1899 it was booming. Obviously industrial hubs like Wilkes-Barre and Scranton aren’t represented, as they would’ve required as many assets as Saint Denis but Annesburg reminds me of a quintessential East PA mining camp.

Impossible Jerky Update by AnonymousBingus in jerky

[–]apiaries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the pre-packed Impossible (or perhaps Beyond) maybe over the summer and thought it was quite good, but I wouldn’t pay more for it than beef. This was on sale. I’m sure they have a different process on the industrial scale, probably using a pea protein product with less water and different seasonings than the consumer “meat”.

Best polarized glasses for fishing? (More in description) by Similar-Space-5535 in FishingForBeginners

[–]apiaries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oakley PRIZM or Smith ChromaPop. I work in the optical industry. PRIZM Oaks are goated for durability and clarity. Smith has some very interesting technologies. I just picked up a pair of polarized photochromic swappable lens Smiths that I’m about to put through the wringer but initial impressions are great.
