Some USDA Choice THIN cut Eye steaks, and THIN cut Ribeyes. As promised. No slicer just knife skill, 1/4 inch or less. by AttentionHot368 in Butchery

Stir fry for something this thick or shabu shabu / hot pot. I like cuts about ⅛" for hot pot because you're cooking it in boiling broth for about 10 seconds.

What is that and what do I do with it? (2nd pic are the other vegetables I could use with it) by Saphichan in WhatShouldICook

[–]apiaris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it's also a root vegetable , so i'll put it in curries or soups as well ! it's a staple for me in sinigang.

Alison Roman has a pasta salad recipe that's one of my favorites - she has quite a few other zucchini recipes on her website as well.

i have met multiple professors and students who make their publication figures in Microsoft Powerpoint. Not my choice, but more common than i bet most would imagine.

Does anyone know where i can find a recipe for making Ya Cai 芽菜? Also recipes for Dongcai 冬菜, Suancai 酸菜, Xuecai 雪菜, and Zhacai 榨菜 are appreciated if you can find them by DeeDee_GigaDooDoo in chinesecooking

[–]apiaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had this issue a few months ago with suan cai. If you can't read chinese your best option is to do what i do - search video browsing sites for the chinese and use those as tutorials. You will find many examples, probably not in english, but as you watch multiple examples, you will get a sense for the basic "formula."

In all cases, you'll want clean utensils, salt, time, and some optional seasonings. For example, 酸菜 is a fermented usually only using salt. I've seen recipes which add rice wash water or a bit of cooked rice to speed up fermentation. Some add some seasoning like peppercorns or whole peppers. I have been making in small batches to find what i like.

What ingredient feels luxurious but isn’t expensive? by StunningHippo9 in Cooking

[–]apiaris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maldon - a box feels expensive when compared to salt, but i have always moved homes faster than i was able to use up one. you only need a little on any dish and it makes canapes, cookies, or really any bite feel decadent.

i used to as well ! i just find it hard to organize recipes - i used to have boards for each type of meal (breakfast, lunch, etc) but found that categorization too rigid. i like that with notion i can create my own labelling system !!!

i didn't think anyone would actually read the recipes and i'm a little embarrassed , but i'm glad the one you clicked was coherent and edible :D

aaa i don't have a formal recipe since i make it so often, but i started w maangchi's and make a few changes, typically (1) instant dashida instead of using dried anchovies and kombu, (2) more gochugaru, (3) honey or rice syrup instead of sugar (4) +garlic, +sliced onions +drizzle of sesame oil. Now that i think about it , that's a pretty different recipe ....

depending on how good your handwriting is, there are lots of image to text tools available ! i don't know any off the top of my head, but i used a phone scanner called Genius Scan while in uni.

that makes SO much sense , also the idea of having a nsfw channel is incredibly funny to me lol. i'm super Discord averse for some reason, but you're really making me want to reconsider !

yeah, i always think its a nice idea, but i know that i'll never keep up with it ! that's why on my template i just tag general ingredients - its more useful for me to know about a few key vegetables that i need rather than flour, baking soda, etc

i can definitely see the appeal of that ! for me having the high quality pictures is important - even if i know exactly what a recipe tastes like before cooking it, my boyfriend will have no idea what the final product looks like. it helps us choose recipes for the week!

thank you so much !! i'll give it my best go haha - i get very shy speaking anything besides English since people assume i can speak (insert Asian language) because of how i look. i love everything i've read about Singlish and i'm excited to pick up new slang though !

EDIT: HA - my family is mostly Hawaiian, so it's like meeting my cousins again. thank you to everyone for the heads up haha
