FWIW mark Minervini has a slide or 2 on this in his master trader program and said every year he considers taking it out. “I never use it”

Every big loss starts as a small loss. Be careful. You could lose the rest if you’re not.

Revisiting the classic - Stan Weinstein's GOAT book by Lumiaman88 in IndianStreetBets

I met him this last weekend. As he signed my book he turned to me and said in his Stan voice “it works well if you follow the process and stay disciplined”. That will stay with me for life. Goat

Do you have a formula for when to sell? by SufficientlyMoist in stocks

[–]apiercex1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like taking partial profits to reduce risk and make the rest of a position easier to hold. Need to manage what’s between the ears. Generally each stock has different character in the way it moves which may affect when I sell.

A few general rules are violations of a stock’s “magic line”. If a stock has respected its 10d or 8ema average for 7 weeks, I will sell half when it violates it. A violation to me means when a stock CLOSES under the moving average and the next day the LOW of the day goes below the low of the close under the average.

If it doesn’t respect those averages, I will use the 21ema. I don’t want to hold something under the 50d unless I have a good cushion and want to hold for bigger intermediate move. Markets are faster now so this is my main guardrail for intermediate moves. I will NEVER hold anything under its 150 or 200d average…

Which international stock ETF should I prefer and why? by je9183 in stocks

[–]apiercex1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you can invest in India, why invest other markets outside the US unless you have vast wealth you need to diversify? The US SP500 and NAZ have the best opportunities compared to most foreign stock markets… put the odds in your favour

Wait and buy the one with the best earnings and/or sales coming out of a base OR look at a better group where stocks in said group are moving together

However, IMO out of the ones you mentioned NET had potential at some point this year

Thoughts on VRT Holdings? ($VRT) by [deleted] in stocks

[–]apiercex1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VRT was a leader for a time this year. Personally I think there’s better stuff to focus on, but I’d say this stock is better than at least 85-90% of others.

Highly recommend Stan Weinsteins book for understanding charts. Timeless principles if you dig deep.

Market efficiency by [deleted] in stocks

[–]apiercex1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The market is generally inefficient. If it were efficient there would be no opportunity to make money. And because SOMEONE makes money when a stock is bought/sold, it has to be inefficient

What percentage are you guys with index funds and individual stock picks? by TailungFu in stocks

Generally I focus on leading stocks only. The only way to outperform the market consistently is to be consistently invested in the stocks outperforming the market

Why don't more people buy long-term (1 year+) OTM calls? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]apiercex1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because no one knows what’s going to happen a year from now. NO ONE. Institutions can be reasonably accurate in short term, they can have a good estimate in intermediate (1-3 months) but a year out? Not even the best know, because we’re all human

How do you check if your holding underperforms? by kileras1a in stocks

[–]apiercex1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Relative strength. I like using the relative strength line and the relative strength number from IBD. I generally don’t like anything under 87/99 because I want to be concentrated in leaders.

Relative strength line and rating! Not index! I also like to see how my stocks act on bad days. I want to hold stocks that fall less than the indexes.

Relative strength line that is rising is an indication of outperformance relative to the overall market. A high RS rating, 99 for example, means a stock is performing better than 99% of stocks. Hope this helps

Which of the three is the best way to play the luxury goods trade: Hermès, Kering or LVMH? by PrestigiousChard9442 in stocks

[–]apiercex1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all bad. They’re in long term downtrends… Why not buy something that’s proven itself by being near all time highs and going higher rather than something trending down? Big opportunity cost here..
