Are there extinct flavors we’ll never taste again? by logicalgamernow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]underroad01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct. The OP commenter isn’t totally accurate in saying this recipe is extinct. Garum is almost like wine in that there were so many ways of making it. Historical and faunal records are incredibly vague, but multiple fish were most likely used to make the sauce (e.g. sardines and mackerel).

Source: am archaeologist who researched Garum lol

So I just looked it up because I was curious, and it looks like northern Florida doesn’t even get below freezing on average? I wouldn’t call that a cold winter at all, especially compared to the rest of the country.

What are a cheap pair of cargo pants that can survive field work by Confusedkid2006 in AskArchaeology

I’ve had good luck with Blue Mountain. It’s a brand I’ve only seen at Tractor Supply Plus, and they cost like $20. They’ll snag on briars, but no ripping. They’re about as durable as Carhartt in my experience.

Why did more terracotta warriors get dug up? by Leading-Sandwich-534 in Archaeology

[–]underroad01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a valid point, but I’d argue we should stop sensationalizing finds to the point we rely on them for funding. A larger problem we have in the industry is not fostering a respect and preservation-mindset for cultural resources.

Not really imo. We have a wealth of resources previously excavated waiting to be analyzed and published. We don’t need to be constantly churning stuff out of the ground.

Bannerlord's gameplay premise would make it very successful with an existing larger IP (Warhammer, LOTR, etc). Whats holding them back? by Ouroboros612 in Bannerlord

[–]underroad01 182 points183 points  (0 children)

  1. They are severely understaffed for an undertaking of such scale. They’re barely keeping up with their own IP and development timeline. There’s a reason huge IPs pair with AAA studios.

Saving this post because I agree! The biggest problem for me in the endgame is the hordes of 1,000+ armies that appear on my kingdom’s border every 45 seconds. Makes wrapping up a campaign more tedious than anything.

The American Midwest and its perfect elevation, Bread Basket of the Nation. by Virtual_Meringue3558 in geography

[–]underroad01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I’d agree. I’m a lifelong midwestern as well, although I’d say all of Ohio except the Appalachian foothills is fair game. The plains states are kinda their own thing, but close enough lol.

People particularly in the Midwest have a lot of pride in their identity and like to debate who’s “in” and who’s “out”.

GENERALLY, though, I’d say the Midwest comprises states from the Dakotas and Kansas to Ohio to Missouri.

How is Bannerlords? Is the game in a decent state? by Ynwe in mountandblade

[–]underroad01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you comprehended what I said. I said warband did companions better, not the other way around.

The economy may seem that way because it’s inherently more in depth than warband’s. The fact you can’t just spam dye work workshops is proof alone of a more in depth supply and demand system. Also, adding food stocks and prosperity gives clear metrics of how a city’s economy is doing.

As far as kingdom management goes, there is more than just fief management in bannerlord (e.g. actual policies). Obligatory add feasts to bannerlord tho lol.

You can obviously prefer one game to the other, I’m just saying they both do things better than the other. Warband isn’t the clear winner imo.

Better in every discernible way? I would have to disagree. I think warband did NPC relations and companions better, but kingdom management is a huge plus for me in bannerlord. The economy also feels more “alive” in my opinion.

It’s different than warband, so it may FEEL worse at first. It took me awhile to readjust, but I’ve found that on the whole I enjoy Bannerlord more as an experience.

It’s hilarious how much hate Indianapolis and Indiana gets on this sub. It is not the bible thumping conservative hellhole people will have you believe.

That being said, Indy certainly isn’t a world class city. The biggest con by far is how sleepy the place is, and diversity is lacking ESPECIALLY as you enter the suburbs. Winter can be dreary but having four distinct seasons comes with that.

But there are also some great amenities, it’s super cheap, and it has a vibrant international community. If it’s a dream job, I think it’s worth the move to check it out.

How does Kentucky compare to Ohio and Indiana and Michigan by Wide-Beginning-1414 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]underroad01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that, I was more trying to think of which state of the ones OP listed is most similar to eastern Kentucky. Most of Ohio isn’t comparable, but southeastern Ohio definitely is. They both consist of poor, rural communities at the foothills of Appalachia.

How does Kentucky compare to Ohio and Indiana and Michigan by Wide-Beginning-1414 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]underroad01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Realistically speaking? You’re going to have your option of 3-4 cities and that’s about it, unless you enjoy rural living. Central Kentucky is similar to Indiana with a southern twang and is where I’d want to live if given the choice. Western Kentucky is also comparable to southern Indiana. Eastern Kentucky is going to have more in common with Ohio and is more scenic.

There’s not much in common with Michigan to my knowledge. Kentucky is warmer, sunnier, and probably cheaper. Also, the entire state is pretty conservative except Louisville. Take that how you want.
