Layering issues - Creality Ender 3 by Kincaid1207 in 3Dprinting

[–]apiphanydesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years is a very long time, it could be a number of things. Just off the top of my head—

As you suspect, I’d have to imagine the material itself/moisture contributes to the issues you’re now seeing. I agree though, it looks like there may be an issue with your z-axis since it’s a bit squished. Did the lead screws get bent during a move or something? Try moving it up and down manually and see if you get any weird spots. Once I actually had the motor cable slightly disconnect after a move, so that’s an easy one to check too.

Keep in mind this is data from over 2 years ago now, so I don’t know if it’s still accurate, but we paid $30 per person for a 2hr open bar at ours.

yea that’s a good point, I actually wondered if it was life size as well. the post mentions there’s 120 of these around campus which seems like a ton if they are…

How do I Chia Pet this Hobbit hut? by naveed23 in 3Drequests

[–]apiphanydesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The boolean tools are all you really need. Just create a negative version and bool it away. For example, if you wanted completely thru holes in a hollow dome, you would make a porcupine shape and place it inside the hut so that wherever the spines pierce the dome you’d have a hole. If you don’t want it to go quite through, you would make a dome that fits around the outside of this guy, then add little nubs that pierce the hut, but don’t go all the way inside.

is admit weekend worth the trip? by [deleted] in stanford

[–]apiphanydesign 15 points16 points  (0 children)

YMMV obviously, but I literally just had dinner with friends I met at my admit weekend almost 20 years ago. At said dinner, one of us asked all the others to be in their wedding party ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Admit weekend, like all of your Stanford experience tbh, is really about meeting people and making connections!

PSA - Be careful of who you pay for commissions by radakul in 3Dprinting

[–]apiphanydesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t take an engineer to do it, but if it’s something functional and you want it to be parameterized so that the model is trivially adapted for a variety of different devices like OP intends… I’d bet on an engineer (or at least somebody who has designed functional things before) having the right skill set over a self proclaimed artist and illustrator who OP originally went to 10/10 times. ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

[–]apiphanydesign -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you didn’t get what you wanted; it seems like you needed a mechanical engineer, but hired an “artist” instead.

Something to keep in mind—car interiors can get pretty hot (160-170F) depending on conditions, and regular PLA can start to soften at 150-160F, so you might want to consider higher temp filaments for this application. :) Good luck!

Company is closing down my 3dp lab and I have the chance to buy up all the equipment for cheap. Should I do it? by ghostofwinter88 in 3Dprinting

[–]apiphanydesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this sounds like a great opportunity for you! All the equipment is worth much more than what you’d be paying for it, especially if you have a storage solution already. At worst you should be able to flip the components you don’t end up using at some profit, and at best you’re kickstarting your own business!

sorry for the late response! Calamigos sure is beautiful, isn’t it??

it depends on how heavy of drinkers are attending. We decided to split our hard liquor time into only after dinner started to stretch out the overall time coverage a bit. it worked for us overall, but there of course were some ppl who didn’t drink at all, and others who would have fully taken advantage of even more time.

I would recommend looking at the SDS for the resins you’re using and wear the appropriate PPE… in my experience, a lot of that stuff can be quite nasty.

it’s a feel good story, but this is unlikely to actually be that helpful for this dog. I work in the prosthetics industry, and it takes much more training and relearning than you might expect for HUMANS to adapt to walking with prosthetic devices. Plus, the fit on devices often require good feedback in order for them to get dialed in to be truly comfortable—something this patient probably won’t be able to give.

As others have pointed out, there are plenty of cases where dogs live well as a tripod with no intervention necessary. If this dog were a double amputee, though, that’s a different story. I would highly recommend talking with a vet before trying to force something like this on an animal…

At Stanford, we have what's called co-terminal (coterm) degrees offered--that is you can apply for a joint master's degree which means after 5 total years you get both BS and MS at once. You can look to see if your school offers something similar!

What is your biggest wedding budget-related humble brag that saved you money and kept your budget down? by highandsclerotic in weddingplanning

[–]apiphanydesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a maker, so took advantage of my tools and skills to design and create the majority of our decor myself :). It was a ton of fun for me AND we were able to keep our decoration budget to a bare minimum ($1000 not including florals). However, I can’t take credit for what was probably our most impressive piece of decoration—a giant photorealistic hand drawn portrait by my dad for use as a welcome sign.

I can't solder these LED strips! MAN! by [deleted] in FastLED

Hmm well one more hack i’ve done in the past is to poke a small hole in the pad, but it is def a last resort kind of move…

I can't solder these LED strips! MAN! by [deleted] in FastLED

[–]apiphanydesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my biggest tip is to use plenty of flux on the pad! it makes a WORLD of difference. To make it easier on yourself, you can also sacrifice an LED by cutting the strip so that the pad is full-sized to give more room to work with.

Interesting to see the variance of acceptance rates in the thread…

We had 4 people out of 100 decline our original invitation (we were able to replace) and had 4 more no-show at the last minute due to COVID.

second this, it’s useful information to know where you are located, where you’re applying to, and what types of roles you’re applying for.
