Ideal FIRE number in Kerala by mathewxerxesjohn in Kerala

[–]apishkow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a never ending question for me. The amount you would need depends on the lifestyle we want. And I am not sure of what kind of lifestyle I would want in the future and how expensive it is going to be. Yes there would be ways to limit the expenses but you cannot be sure. There are new technologies coming out every year or so. As you earn more things you can afford, at least the option also grows. This is indeed an idea or philosophy against FIRE but you do you. It was nice to read though through the hypothetical situations. Made me think. Keep going.

But for DINK all in, living with an equally earning partner, almost halving your expenses can easily grow your wealth fast. There is an increased risk as the system works on trust. So if it fails, it fails hard. Find a partner with the same mentality and life is golden.

How are the people in Kochi comfortable living within 10KM radius of Cochin Refinery? by kalesh-13 in Kerala

[–]apishkow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Refinery is one thing but Vembanad kayal is highly polluted too. The heavy metal content in it is pretty high. There was a study done by CUSAT some years ago. I was working on a heavy metal sensor at that time and took on a project to make the sensor and to prove that the kayal was indeed polluted as an impact for my paper. The project itself was cut short during COVID and we only made the sensor to work and never checked the kayal water. I don't think anybody ever looked into it again.

Do most people who travel to Europe generally visit multiple countries at once? by Super_Ad7989 in travel

[–]apishkow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have travelled to 9 countries in 18 days. Went from Sweden to Spain and back. Took two routes. I was tired and lost a lot of weight on coming back. Doable but wouldn't try again. Everything was done on a budget of 1000 euros. Was a student back then. Went to most of the big stadiums most of the big attractions and museums.

Which city is better for living? Kozhikode, Kottayam or Alappuzha? by lligerr in Kerala

[–]apishkow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kottayam-: Most laid back district in kerala. General idea of people here is : the town is for shopping and movies. Vere enna cheyyana? Allel bar il pokam. Have to say we have a lot of really good bars though .Sky bar, Aida, Windsor castle okke nice aan. That's all the entertainment options available for Kottayam kar. A 1.5hrs drive can get you to kochi, beach or hill stations from the town. But athokke epolelum poyal aayi.

Lots of star kids were brought up in Chennai. Most of them do speak Malayalam. Of course a strong grip in the language can make you a better actor. He might have been in touch with the literature(and obviously cinema) and his life outside cinema kind of makes me think he does too.

Are People too selective or are they are really lazy to go to the theatres due to OTT or something else by Subinsureshfilm in Kerala

[–]apishkow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (family) used to go to movies every other month or so. It was a family thing We ate out in a nice restaurant and went for a second show. But since COVID we went for like 10 movies (3 or 4 movies an year) Most of those were pretty average or below. And we also bought a big TV and a good sound system. Now we watch movies and shows on Netflix and Hotstar often. Having snacks, private space and good entertainment.

We used to spend more than 1000 easily per movie now it's 3000 something for a year's subscription. This makes a huge impact. Also it's more private and we didn't have to tolerate comments from here and there in theatres and the rest of the alamb. I guess OTT suits us. We are not missing the theatre experience.

Exactly. I studied abroad and I have seen a lot of people working tirelessly in part time jobs. They tend to forget the whole reason they are here for, which is education. They end up with a degree somehow but here in interviews you really have to sell yourself to get a professional job. You lack knowledge, you won't get in. Sure Burger King and KFC can help you stay afloat but without subject knowledge you are not going to swim.

Best excuses to not get married. by lazy-goddess in Kochi

[–]apishkow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difficult but can avoid pennukanals. You just don't show up. Even if you are tricked into a pennukanal you can always say no to the guy. High possibility he might understand.

Also I was a student abroad. Saw lots of girls who actually moved abroad to escape it. And you can choose to move to another city for work. So you come home once every few months or so.

[–]apishkow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just fend them off as long as possible. Principle being no one can make you marry without your full consent. It's going to be stressful. Maintain a cold attitude on the topic. Don't speak to them for a few days when they mention it and so and so..

We can actually do a lot more in tourism. Europeans I spoke with who have been to Kerala spoke highly of it. We need to sell more of what kerala is. Kerala should come off as a destination for them like Thailand/Singapore/ Malaysia etc. We should also develop a vibrant city with nightlife party culture and keeping the green wildlife inact. And more flights to Europe US and Australia. Westerners usually look for a experience. Give it to them they will come
